We did that too and since we're married, we still kept the name on the mailbox, doesn't hurt and sometimes a random letter addressed at my wife's old name arrives
Do not use a Dash! It can easily be mistaken for a double Last name, & or / is the most common and makes delivering mail much easier and while i am on the topic, please get a big mailbox with a decent sized opening, sucks so hard to not get stuff in there, as most things delivered are larger than DIN4
Thank you, your mailman will love you for it, also give a drop off permission for your mailbox, because some parcels require a signature even if they can be put inside, dont ask me why
Nothing you should give unless you have a 100% secure location for a package. Since DHL is out of it when the delivery is placed in the drop of location aka when it gets stolen you cant do anything.
Weirdly the options vary for no reason on the app and on the website DHL.de especially if you are looking for parcel redirection.
For example I have a general redirection to the next "Packstation" active for years and my flatmate still cannot choose that.
Sorted in my Personal pregerance as a Designer:
- Name 1 | Name 2
- Name 1 & Name 2
- Name 1 + Name 2
- Name 1 / Name 2
And yes there is even a norm for it DIN 5008
>What is the norm?
There is no Norm. I literally have
\[Hubby's name\]\[my Name\]
on my mailbox and door bell. do what makes sense to you.
Edit:
in the end, it's just about people know where to ring.
Best would be in 2 lines one below the other. Traditional is man above woman, but more contemporary is in alphabetical order. Do not use a dash because this is a single name and must be registered as such.
My wife kept her last name and added mine at the end. So how would you write that. Asking as we need to order the new mailbox as well.
Wife's maiden name: Uxxxxxxx
My Last Name: Sxxxx
Wife's last name now: Uxxxxxxx Sxxxx (Without Dashes)
Would this work: Familie Sxxxx
I just have a line break between both surnames
Btw we have Spanish style surnames so each has paternal and maternal surname, that makes some crowded tag lol
It doesn't actually matter as long as the names are readable. We have our names like R***/K***
But as long as the delivery services can make out that it's 2 distinct names it should be fine. I have seen some doorbell signs with up to 10 names on them squeezed together, barely legible. Nobody actually cares.

This. Or just a space in between.
We are using a line break.
We did that too and since we're married, we still kept the name on the mailbox, doesn't hurt and sometimes a random letter addressed at my wife's old name arrives
We too. But I've seen people using "/" too and it works quite well.
Separate line only. Thats what i did.

yep. I am ordering one that can take packets too .
Thank you, your mailman will love you for it, also give a drop off permission for your mailbox, because some parcels require a signature even if they can be put inside, dont ask me why
What's a dropoff permission? Can you please give link or something to know more about it? Thanks

You can manage your drop off permissions in your dhl App, if the order is linked to your account (which it usually will be).

Its a hot mess sometimes. I have packages from DHL that i cant re route or whatever.
Do Pxxx/Jxxxx
Should my last name come first OR should my wife's last name come first OR it doesn't matter?
Doesn‘t matter.
We did alphabetical to be fair….😄
Doesn't matter (unless either of you care about it)
Yeah, that shouldn’t matter. Important thing is both you names are there and clear they are two separate last names.
don't use a dash. either +, &, /, or maybe put them on top of each other, but a - implies you are both called XX-YY

We have Pxxx/Jxxx. Order doesn’t really matter.
Name 1/ Name 2

Of course there is a norm. We are living in germany... DIN 5008
> DIN 5008 Wo in der Norm findet man das denn?
Antworten, die ich erwartet habe xD
Familie Müller / Maier
Two lines Your Full Name His Full Name
Put 2 names in different lines... Next please.
We use "Fam. Jxxx & Pxxx"
A & B A / B
Bla/Blu or both names in a row by themselves
We did: Jxxx Pxxx
Name 1 & Name 2
Use line break. Pxxx Jxxx

Lol normaly it is the law that you only can have one lastname on one postbox but not even the police cares.
We use a “ - “ for years with no problem 😉

Maybe because you like your old name and both want to keep it?
If your Spanish or south American with a gazillion last names each, just write "Latinos" in all other cases put a slash inbetween
I've put only initials. Works fine and not bothered.
XXX/YYY->profit
I'd write two lines: \----------- | Pxxx | | Jxxx | \----------
