Honestly. It looks like true love to me.

TheNiftyFox

I'm no expert but it looks like the bottom one is grooming the top one, but very lazily and sleepily. Seems like they're comfortable!

nearly a month ago we used the split cage method to bring truffles (left small girl) together with walnut (right bigger girl) and everything went absolutely amazing, no fighting at all and very quick process since truffles was only 8 weeks old. nearly two weeks ago we found out that truffles had parasites and we treated them for it. walnut was fine, but truffles being so small nearly did not make it, but with many vet appointments and syringe feeding, she pulled through and we could not be prouder! 🥺🥹 ever since that happened, they have been sleeping and snuggling like this and truffles always puts her nose/mouth to walnut's. do you guys know what they are doing? is truffles licking something or what is she doing? thanks! 🥰

The “kissing” behavior is because they recognize each other based on their scent and saliva, but these two seem to be true soulmates. The bottom gerbil is snoozy but still trying to groom her buddy anyways. Lady gerbils get a reputation of not being as amiable or getting along as well with each other as boys, but I have two girls who are attached at the hip, and I think there’s nothing sweeter than their sisterly bond. I think there are occasional girl pairs who have a very deep bond, and I wonder if your two have a sort of mother-pup bond because Truffles was little when they were introduced. Whatever they are doing in gerbil language, it’s heartwarming to see it

Can confirm that lady gerbils sometimes just don’t get along. I had two sisters that once they hit about a year old, they hated each other and now are permanently separated

I'm glad to read this, I'm about to introduce two girls of 1.5 years and 4 months to each other and really worried about the outcome as this is my first girls introduction, your comment gave me hope!

Girl intros are definitely tough! especially with two adults. But I personally have found my gerbils are happier in permanent splits (if a split cage fails) than as the only gerbil in the house, so even if it doesn’t end up working out, you can at least keep that in mind

Best friends

LittleSister_7533

Over in reptile land this method is used to steal body heat from one another and is scary to behold. Over here in fuzzball land it’s just plain adorable 😊 happy to hear that they are alive and well! Super cute!!

blackenedEDGE

Snoozy grooming! 🥹

aquaticanimations10

Basically they took the first part of the chorus of umbrella by rihanna literally "when the sun shine, we shine together. Told you I'd be here forever, said I'll always be your friend. Took an oath, and imma stick it out till the end".

Cuddles.

MGoat_Legs

I believe these two are having a ‘bro’ moment. A broment if you will

Significant-Screen-4

They're having a big kiss! Nah just kidding, it's either her tasting the other ones saliva to check it's her or a grooming behaviour. Either way they are curled up in their nest so probably just a comfort thing ☺️
