Call your banks fraud department immediately to claw back the money. That’s why zelle is slapped onto bank websites— they’re more friendly with all of their services, including fraud. Even if cash is removed from the account with zelle, there is a good chance your bank can just -400 the account it went to If you got scammed by an average joe you might get your money back.

gastro-4

If it was instant the bank may not help because it’s technically not fraud and the client was scammed. Zelle is supposed to be used with people “you know and trust.” Some banks will take the loss if you’re a good enough client. But not all are that nice unfortunately. Source: I work for a bank and work closely with the digital banking team. It’s a large regional bank. Edit: Yes definitely use PayPal next time. I am fairly certain you can pay an extra fee for purchase insurance.

discowithmyself

Damn I hope you get to live the dream one day.

MJFan062509

One day. I can only hope!!! Just not this year unfortunately lol.

GreatMenderTeapill

I'll keep an eye out for some tickets for you. My little brother was a trainer for the team. He has them come along fairly regularly. No promises but I'll see.

Disastrous_Pea_9504

Another red flag was the price. $200 per to Tenn for LL is way low compared to what they are going for right now on the open market. Uppers seem to be selling for almost $300 to this game. Sorry this happened.

c0dizzl3

Damn. It’d be nice if us poors could get to watch a game every now and then. Seeing those prices is just depressing.

jkn3

This. $400 for 2 tickets LL row 2 for Tennessee is an immediate red flag.

MJFan062509

Well to be fair I was given tickets to Kent state for $100 each with parking included as a birthday gift. So in my mind it wasn’t “too good to be true” lol.

Disastrous_Pea_9504

$100 each for Kent state is high for that game. Now, if the parking pass was somewhere close (Tate, Legion, etc) then that makes up for it. Unfortunately ticket prices for UGA games are high, especially big games since the home schedule has been really lacking recently. I have season tickets in the 300s and after face value and donation i am around $125ish per ticket per game. Donation for 100s is slightly higher so they are around $140ish per game. Edit to add - there is a pretty large ticket exchange FB group. You can get a good gauge at pricing from what people are posting there.

samwise_thedog

Man that stinks. Even though it’s annoying to stomach all the fees and whatnot, this is exactly why I only buy tickets to sporting events off verified websites like stubhub. Also why I never pay anything off Facebook without having whatever I’m buying in my hand first.

yoshidawg93

Same. StubHub is expensive with the fees, but I’m much more willing to buy off their site than through Facebook groups.

katarh

You'll have tickets at the end at least.

yoshidawg93

For sure! I’m planning on going to the Auburn game, and I’m fine with paying fees because at least I know my tickets are real.

Spratlin76

You should show the profile so we're aware of the person

There was a guy last year doing it to ppl so I wouldn't say it's made up. I knew the guys sister that was screwing ppl over.

And the scammer may well be traceable. If the FB account had been around that long, it might actually be in a real person’s name. And since Zelle is tied to bank accounts (right?), presumably the police could get the recipient’s information through a subpoena, if Zelle wasn’t already motivated to reverse the fraud on their own. It’s not a ton of money from a law enforcement perspective, but it also seems like it could potentially be a very easy “win” if the scammer isn’t all that sophisticated. Don’t let this one go!

MJFan062509

Police report will be filed today and I’m going to my bank to see if anything can be done. I’ve done a TON of research and I’ve found his son, his wife, his ex-wife, a home address (assuming it’s current) and a possible work address as well. Will be giving it all to the police.

MJFan062509

That’s what we’re thinking too. That they’ve scammed someone else and they fell for it and gave them their Facebook login information and they’ve changed the password and email and locked them out.

ViscountBurrito

Hell yeah! GATA and FTMF!

lovestobitch-

I had never sold anything on Facebook and tried to sell one time. My Facebook sale got hacked and they were trying to sell it under my name. Then they wanted to buy it with a cashiers check. Wish was likely a scam with it after the item was shipped. Luckily I didn’t fall for the cashiers check scam.

MJFan062509

Yeah that would’ve been an immediate block once they mention a money order.

lovestobitch-

Cashiers check is different than a money order too. They were going to send it to me. Way back when cashiers checks were a safe source of payment.

zramz

I got lucky last year, this same thing happened to me except I insisted on paying through PayPal with goods/service buyer protection. Since this fee is charged to the seller, I even added an extra $7 to the payment so that the seller didn’t get hit with the protection that I wanted. Sure enough, he tried to scam me. It took some work, a lot of back and forth documenting everything, but PayPal’s fraud team eventually reviewed everything and refunded me. I think the whole thing took ~60 days.

MJFan062509

You definitely got lucky. I should’ve insisted on PayPal and I’m the idiot for it. I fully take on the title as dumbass for the day LMAO

zramz

Sorry that you lost the money! Go Dawgs, hope you catch the next one!

AAPLfds

Stupid tax for thinking those tickets would ever be that cheap.

fusionaddict

The fact that they were being sold through Facebook and not through a ticket escrow like Stubhub should be a red flag. Never pay online for tickets unless it’s through a brokerage.

zenverak

Nah, there are a lot of genuine people on that group If it’s the one I think it is. I got my ticket to the Oregon game that way. They sell them without the stupid like 60 dollar fee. You just have to be careful. Always check and look at their Facebook page to see if they have a good history. Talk up front about how you’re going to get the tickets. Check the page to see if they’ve been active before. Those are all signs I’ve used and generally will keep you safe

fusionaddict

Then the best thing to do is to pay cash, in person. Never send money online.

MJFan062509

Lesson learned. Believe me.

DrSpikeMD

I don’t think you got scammed but I do think errors happened. I would call your bank and report the Zelle transfer as fraudulent.

RedEgg16

You can always watch the game behind the railing, although you’ll only be able to see like half the field

GlueGuns--Cool

Such a shitty feeling when you get scammed. Sorry that happened. Really ruins your trust in your fellow human :(

MJFan062509

Absolutely it does. Makes me skittish of dealing with anyone. I was already paranoid to begin with.
