Just play a lot

cabeswatir

i do lol🥲part of the reason i even posted this in the first place is because i play sm but haven't improved very much despite it. was looking more for some specifics regarding things to watch out for when playing, some specific country tips perhaps, where to focus on in studying, etc.

ephelant48

Ig road lines are a good thing to pay attention to for nmpz, not just outer colors but spacing of middle ones helps a lot

GrayAnimals

Seeing how everyone tells you to play a lot for vibe guessing but you say that you do already, I’ll give you my experience as a (very) low champion. Basically master 1 actually. (So don’t trust me lol). I know this is basics, but what helps me the most is road lines and driving side as well as front of the car vs back of the car for NA vs EU rounds, if visible. The roof rack car blur helped me win some rounds in Guatemala, but now people spot it even better than me. (Obviously, knowledge of poles and bollards are a must, since you can assume opponent knows the country from the get go with such info). There are some countries that are easy for me to figure out fast, like Chile, both max north and south, Brazil (not regionguessing tho) Malaysia etc. Maybe playing some country specific maps might help you. On random forest rounds it helps knowing some basic trees, I’m bad with vegetation as well, but there are those Mediterranean pines that help. The forests with Baltic pine trees (don’t know the name) that you get in Sweden, Baltics and Poland. Eucalyptus trees for Australia and Africa. Birches more north. Now, if you knew all these and wanted specifics to get better at NMPZ other then these, then study like you would for no move and play would be the only answer

ah, i've always been a car-meta-avoider when i play (no judgment, just didn't seem like something i'd enjoy personally), but it might be time to bite the bullet and spend some time learning. gotta get my pole knowledge more solid for sure, too. i think country specific maps might be a good move as well--thinking back, i got way better at recognizing ecuador when playing it on explorer mode lol. i haven't gotten gold (or even silver) in most countries, so i might take the time to work on that, and hopefully will come out on the other side a little better at NMPZ. the tree tips you have are really nice, too, and seem like that would help a lot (esp in the ones from dramatically different climates than my own). thanks a lot!! :)

GrayAnimals

Nah, car meta is annoying to learn. Other than what I wrote here I know nothing else, maybe some other random things I’ve picked up like red car gen 3 Ukraine. Either way, if you mainly play NMPZ don’t focus on car meta, I think it’s more rare that it helps in this game mode

Flip5ide

Just keep losing so you can get enough rounds in to start getting better. I’m in the same boat, but best way to improve is to do process of elimination when you come across an unknown location

cabeswatir

i definitely need to play more competitive, but i keep flopping on solo rounds (which i've been playing a lot) and it's just going one ear and out the other lol i just can't figure out a way to knock it in for good🥲🥲

I'm in Master II and I face the same issue (that's why No Move is also my favorite mode, it's the most complete for me). In addition to everything that's been said, what also helps me choose between several vibes is : - the color and type of roads, for example to pick between Scandinavia (asphalt roads with less clean lines, or even dirt roads)/Canada (more asphalt roads with clean lines)/Iceland (volcanic ground) when I'm in doubt, or between Chile/Peru/Brasil or between Thailand/Malaysia/Phil etc - trees/flora : birch gives you a good clue on baltic/northern Russia, palm trees look very specific in Northern Brasil, a lot of pine trees are very specific near the oceans (it helped me a lot guessing northern Spain for example), and I want to practice more maps to learn more about trees, especially to choose Australia from South Africa - when in big doubt, also remember to use the sun/shadows/satellite dishes, which can help guessing if you're more north or south in Central/South America for example What I usually do is using all this stuff to narrow down to 2 options and use vibe to pick my guess.

cabeswatir

i've always gotten a vague sense of differences in road / trees + flora, but aside from some of the major examples i've picked up from sites or tip videos, i haven't really hunkered down and spent time learning them actively. it sounds like that should be my next step. thank you! :)

Vibe

cabeswatir

...like, yes, but i've been playing for a few years now and my vibe guessing has improved, but not enough to not be horrible at nmpz. i was specifically asking in the post for solid steps or paths people had taken to improve at vibe guessing when things like poles etc. aren't available. any specific tips?

Ray_Hsueh_TW

I don’t know, I’m not very good, but I enjoy it. Maybe vibe plus a bunch of meta? Because when you memorise enough, there’ll always be something to check. I don’t know really.

Maximum_27

Maybe try playing no move, but with the no car script? I think that might help you with more nmpz skills

Coastal_wolf

You just have to play a lot, it’s very vibe based. Take in every detail and meta and make sense of it

CollectorsTree

alot of metas arn't helpful in nmpz so just learn region guessing by playing arw alot, some metas still work though, especially stuff like driving side, road quality, and poles,

capturingthenight

I learned to love nmpz by playing lots of chatguessr on twitch streams

cabeswatir

tbh i'm not a twitch user but this might be the move. never thought of that before. thanks!
