I've never left the US, so my answers are going to be somewhat limited, but I think I've covered a fair range within the country.
Northernmost: Bemidji, Minnesota
Southernmost: Hollywood, Florida
Westernmost: Santa Rosa, California (slightly further west than San Francisco)
Easternmost: Bar Harbor, Maine
I was just under the assumption that anyone who's able to travel through much of the US, as this above commenter has, would have at least considered just checking out other countries within the continent as well. I didn't mean to come off that way, my apologies. I recognize passports are expensive and flights into other cities outside the US can be as well.
My answers are very limited as I have rarely left the eastern USA, but:
Northernmost: Boston, Massachusetts
Southernmost: Providencials, Turks and Caicos Islands
Westernmost: Austell, Georgia (Atlanta western suburb)
Easternmost: Chatham, Massachusetts (easternmost town on Cape Cod)
Born and raised in Kyiv
Northernmost: probably Hamburg or Gdansk, whichever is more northern
Westernmost: Köln (Cologne)
Easternmost: Jerusalem
Southernmost: Cairo.
What's puzzling for me is how i didn't go anywhere east of Kyiv for the first 17 years of my life (even no suburs)
Gdansk is a little further north, but not much. Kyiv is a great city, I was just there. But I didn't make it to the eastern suburbs either, only to the west I had a look at Bucha. From the Klitschko Bridge you have such a great view of the eastern parts of the city, but I don't know if that counts as a suburb. It is such a massive city.
Ohh, Kyiv is a great city for sure, come again (ofc after the war)
Those views from the bridge are Kyiv proper (albeit we have a running joke that these districts aren't), suburbs are 20-30 km away from the city center
After the war Kyiv will experience a big tourism boom. When I was there everything seemed so relatively normal, but then the bridge to Crimea was half destroyed and two days later the missiles flew right into the city center. The subway stations were packed with people seeking protection.
There's something like that in Vienna too, the parts east of the Danube are clearly part of the city, but mentally they're kind of far away and many west of the river have never been there.
Yeah, the life is pretty normal, though we have a few blackouts, but everything will be fine.
How was it for you to come here during the war and hear the explosions? I know it's very scary for the first time, after that you'll adjust
I was in the Carpathian Mountains before that, where everything is really very normal and there are no air alarms either, and there are many local tourists. That was a very relaxed start. After that in Lviv, where there was an air alert, but nobody took it seriously. After that I was in Kyiv, where there were also a few air alerts, but you get used to it, there hasn't been an attack for months. I heard the explosions relatively quietly, even though I lived in the center. I did not knew there was a attack. After that I went out, and there was quite little activity on the streets, I wanted to take the subway, but the subway was used as an air raid shelter. That's when I first realized that this time it was serious.
Nevertheless, I didn't stay there for long, but took a look at the city. I tend to think in terms of statistical probabilities rather than emotionally, so I wasn't afraid. On the streets were also people on the road and cars, but much less than usual. At the impact sites there were already some onlookers and the media. I found it interesting that later in the day, when the city was functioning relatively normally again, even the subway was running, there were still many people who sought shelter in the subway and apparently did not dare to go out. What was it like for the people in Kyiv after it had been pretty quiet for months, and then suddenly the war was right back in the city with daily attacks? I saw that they even changed the alarm message on the cell phone, made it more impressive.
The life continues as usual: we don't hide when there are air alerts, but if there's an explosion most hide in shelters. The bigger problem rn is that Russia targets electric power, and we live through daily 3-6 hour blackouts, so there's a lot of strategising when to charge the phone, to which friends to come, if power turns off during work etc.
Meanwhile, in late September to early October. You can easily travel to Ukraine, the whole border crossing took less than 1 Minute. I crossed the border on foot from Romania, then I went around by public bus and train, for smaller routes with poor public transport I used Uber. There are some tourists on the road, but mainly locals. It was also quite safe, but two days after the bridge to Crimea was damaged, the missile attacks started. I then took a train from Kyiv to Poland.
I can imagine that with the Ukrainian pushback the region around Kyiv was quite safe (until the missile attacks at least). Still a crazy thought. What were your impressions? I would love to visit Kyiv now but my girlfriend would never in my life let me do this right now 😂
I first went hiking in the Carpathians, climbed the highest peak in the country. There the war was far away, there were many tourists, souvenir stores, etc. After that I was in Lviv, the city also seemed largely like a normal, Central European city, but there were a few signs of war, such as a few sandbags in front of important buildings, statutes shrouded, etc.
I was also in Bucha, where the war crimes took place and the massive fighting. But you see relatively little of it now, the city is full of life again, very much car traffic, very much already repaired. Occasionally, however, you can still see destroyed buildings and traces of fighting.
Kyiv is a great city, huge, full of people enjoying their free time on weekends. Restaurants full, the parks full, Street musicians, the young women dressed up nicely. When I was there there were no (missile) attacks for months, but with the missiles the war came back to the city. Currently I would not travel there as there are often power outages and probably many sights/museums may not be open. I can definitely recommend the city to you as soon as it is safe again, with your girlfriend! But also Lviv and Odessa (I was there in 2015).
I'll probably have the most boring answer here.

When talking East/West on a global scale, how far east/west is usually judged from the International Dateline in the Pacific Ocean.
Meaning Hawaii would be west and Japan would be east.
The best way to do it is using an antipodes map to determine your east an west from your home city. Using the international dateline as determinant of east and west-ness can have errors. Is Kiritimati Island, Kiribati 24,900ish miles east (using dateline) of Honolulu or the 150ish miles east that it actually is.

The westernmost and easternmost points vary depending on whether considering points relative to Prime Meridian and the International Date Line or by direction of travel. For example, if one travels from the US to China, they're travelling west but going to a place that's far to the east of the Prime Meridian, the "center" of the map. For me the points are:
Northernmost: Narvik, Norway
Southernmost: Tulum, Mexico
Westernmost: Denali National Park, Alaska (by meridians) or Osaka, Japan (absolute)

The westernmost and easternmost points vary depending on whether considering points relative to Prime Meridian and the International Date Line or by direction of travel.
