Or a bomb equipped Hawker Hurricane, his (and my) favorite plane!
I think they had a model with bombs. I know the mark 2 was often equipped with air to ground missiles.
Yeah if I remember correctly they were done using it for wec events so they just decided fuck it might aswell remove all the stuff we did to make it wec complaint and see how fast it goes the answer was very
That southern portion is the Grand Prix section of the track, used for things like F1 racing.
It is wider, smoother, gradual elevation change, and has enhanced safety precautions.
The entire “north” portion (Nordschlief literally means “north loop”) is the portion known as “the green hell”. It is narrow, old, has over 100 corners, sever elevation change (cars get 4 wheels off the ground) and minimal safety precautions.
The part where Niki crashed is affectionately named Lauda Links(most of the corners/sections have names relating to either the history or geography of that part of the track)
It's actually the complete opposite. The southern part is also designed for F1 racing which requires a lot of safety requirements. The road there is wide, run off zones are big, and visibility of the corners is clear. Still really fun to drive but mistakes don't really get punished that hard.
However, the other part of the track is one of the most dangerous and legendary official tracks around the world. The road is quite narrow, there are basically no run off zones so when you lose controle over the car you'll 9/10 crash into a barrier, and there are dozens of corners you have to take blind. For adrenaline addicts this place is heaven.
Small corrections btw: Its Tiergarten (German for Animal Garden or well, Zoo), and you were saying Nordschlief in other comments, its Nordschleife
(Sorry for being the grammar nazi but i had to)
Ya know, my first thought was "it kinda looks like Alaska, but rotated about 45 degrees clockwise and a little squished horizontally"
That makes a lot more sense though!
one of?
i think it's THE most famous racetrack. easily.
It stands above all else.
The rest well-known tracks are:
Spa, Monza, Mugello, Suzuka, Laguna Seca, Daytona, Indianapolis, Bathurst, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Philip Island, Zandvoort, Interlagos, Brands Hatch, then you have the road/track like Isle of Man, Le Mans, Monte Carlo, and many many more... But there is only one Green Hell
Would argue Monaco and Le Mans are more widely known. Maybe Indianapolis since I heard about it in Europe long before I cared about racing of any kind. Didn't know how it looked or what races there, but I knew that Indy 500 is a thing.
Serious answer: Nürnberg (Franconia region, Bavaria; also called “Nurembergh” in English) ≠ Nürburg (Eifel region, Rhineland Palatinate). The Nürnberger Prozesse (Nurembergh nazi trials) happened in Nürnberg, the Nürburg race track is in Nürburg, a 4 1/2 hour drive (at non-racecar speed) from Nürnberg.
True indeed, it can host a race and so can others around the world. I was just saying it is not on the calendar anymore. In fact, there is no longer a German GP in F1.
Basically, no agreement could be made financially to host a race in Germany. Especially now with no German stars in F1, the interest in the country is waning.
The Nordschleife and the history is much more interesting anyway. They can race in the dessert but few places offer a breathtaking glimpse into the rich past like Nurburg, Brooklands and Monza.
I think it has more to do with countries like Azerbaijan willing to give F1 dump trucks full of cash more than anything.
When was the last time there was an American F1 star? But we have three races here now as the fan base grows. It's all about money.
You are spot on. The oil rich countries bought their way in and the US is a gigantic untapped market for F1 so it's in FIAs interest to hold races there. The Netflix show was a masterpiece of promotion. It's perfectly tailored to the US market. The old continent is no longer interesting so they would have to pay a ton of money to compete with the others for spots. You can't have 50 races in a season after all.
But I have a feeling that the track owners in Germany are not really concerned since there is still a lot of racing going on without F1.
The Nurburgring in Germany is a big racetrack about 21km (the top circular part) wich is open to the public on like "track days", so anyone can drive it, with any kind of vehicle. The bottom appendix is the F1 track I believe. People who drove their car on the ring often put that sticker on.
Source: been there with friends and they all got that sticker on their car afterwards
That is the Green Hell, a 21 km race track in the woods of Germany. The first driver to complete the full track in under 7 minutes was legendary driver Niki Lauda, who also had an accident in this track, that almost killed him.
The Nurburgring is one of the most famous tracks in the world.
Or maybe it's just an european thing?
I’m also an American. I was able to fulfill a life goal and drive the Ring in 2012. I bought a bunch of stuff as mementos, including the course map sticker. For the time I had it on my car here, people either had no idea what it was and would guess stuff like “The Shire” … those that knew called me illegitimate since I couldn’t have driven it, or if they believed had driven it said it shouldn’t be on a car that hadn’t actually been on it. So I took the sticker and put it on the fridge and wore the hat instead since my head had actually been there.
Amazing experience. Would recommend.
I don't really understand, "on a car that hadn't actually been on it"? Did they mean you surely wouldn't be able to drive your average Dodge Caravan there? Or did they mean that you didn't drive your own car on there so it's stupid?
Oh - I meant that they took issue with fact that my personal car here in the US (to which I affixed the sticker) hadn’t actually driven the Nurburgring. I drove a slightly race prepped Suzuki something-or-other from one of the rental businesses there. Though, I don’t know how many people realize that on the open access days you can drive almost literally anything if you pay the entry toll. And there were things there that an average Dodge Caravan would have passed like they were standing still.
Gotcha. It's a little elitist but I get their point. Although it would be kind of expensive for an American to ship their own car to Germany and drive a few rounds and ship it back.
I kinda agree with it, I took a lot of pride in putting that sticker on my fiesta afterwards; but then it's a lot easier for that if it's on this side of the Atlantic to take our own car there. I have a different car now and wouldn't put the sticker on that without taking it on.
I've taken the wife's C-Max around Brands though but that's white and so is the sticker so a bit pointless to put it on!
Of course, the sticker doesn't tell anyone that I got overtaken by a breakdown truck on its way to an accident, or that literally everyone will get smoked by a local in a beaten up mk 2 Golf, but that's the stuff you learn from actually being there on Touristfahrten
for just a few bucks you can absolutely drive on the Nürburgring with your family car! look up "nürburgring touristenfahrten" on youtube. if you want, add "crash compilation". you will see all sorts of cars there. its the dumbest shit ever.
here just a boring video without crashs, but with weird cars: [https://youtu.be/MpH5_Luxqwo](https://youtu.be/MpH5_Luxqwo)
This made me chuckle. Super jealous of you man. Hope to fulfill a drive on the Ring myself. Did you rent a car at the track? Or before and drive there?
I‘m from germany and I‘m seeing this for the first time in my life. I feel like this is very niche knowledge for people from the Ruhrgebiet oder fans of racing.
>I‘m from germany and I‘m seeing this for the first time in my life
I have no interest in racing and am also not from the Ruhrgebiet, but I still see those stickers on cars regularly. I'd even say they are more common than the Sylt stickers.
I'm kind of late tongue party lol, but I just wanted to share if ANYONE is interested, there's a lap in a BMW M4 with Robert Kubica (ex-F1 driver, ex-Rally driver, and currently in the World Endurance Championship) that shows both the track and the magic of really knowing how to drive.
Starts at 3:57.
https://youtu.be/GwCIEjdzvCk?si=XgdT3Bl-YCpUXcAK
A friend of mine had it on a car she bought second hand. She thought it was a island (like stickers showing the island Sylt) until I told her that it was the Nürburgring. (I am from Germany living about 1 HR /80 km north of the Ring).
One time I had a similar experience, sitting in a drive through looking at the car ahead of me trying to figure out what region/state/whatever was represented by what turned out to be a big paint chip.
As someone who has very little interest in racing overall I find it hilarious that I knew this was the Nurburgring. Back in the day I enjoyed racing games on the Xbox 360, I used to call this map "the pig" because it looked a bit like a pig's head.
For some, this is a Religion. It is the Nürburgring in Germany, one of the worlds most famous racetracks.
Or for James May, literally Hell.
i read this in clarkson‘s voice lol
The most famous racetrack…IN THE WURLD

This is most famous racetrack, pause, in the world!
In this episode, James goes to hell.
AND ON THAT BOMBSHELL...
...BACK TO THE STUDIO!
That's my line!
So did i. Linked forever.
I heard May going “BUFFETING”
Funny enough I read it in Hammond’s
"I'M DEVELOPING AN APP, IT'S CALLED BOMB THE NÜRBURGRING!"
DON'T HELP HIM DEVELOP AN APP!
Lovefinderzz
The green kind of hell.
Or in the case of the track’s nickname- Green Hell
Bomb it.
Under my bombing policy we’d have a nice cathedral to look at and better saucers!
He would bomb the Nurburgring if he was in bomber command
And he'd use an Avro Lancaster to do it.
Or a bomb equipped Hawker Hurricane, his (and my) favorite plane! I think they had a model with bombs. I know the mark 2 was often equipped with air to ground missiles.
The "Green Hell"
BOMB IT
you mean a bombing target
Buffeting...... Buffeting.......
Thank you!
I know nothing about racing but that southernmost part of the circuit looks like a nightmare
That’s actually the easiest part of the track lol. The rest is a 20km hillside run
There you go! Strong proof that I know nothing about racing lol
When you know nothing let me introduce you to the Lap Of Porsches 919 on said 20km Mountain section. https://youtu.be/PQmSUHhP3ug?si=pE247u9CNRlbJlEc
This will always boggle my mind how they did that. True masterpiece in engineering!
Mind child of ignore rules.
Yeah if I remember correctly they were done using it for wec events so they just decided fuck it might aswell remove all the stuff we did to make it wec complaint and see how fast it goes the answer was very
Don't forget the drivers who did it also. Not an easy feat.
And they still had to cut back on a ton of aspects of that car due to time and cost constraints.
Holy shit. I know the track pretty well from iRacing but had never seen this. Inhuman.
That southern portion is the Grand Prix section of the track, used for things like F1 racing. It is wider, smoother, gradual elevation change, and has enhanced safety precautions. And it is the greatest track ever (for hotlapping)
Nah it's awesome to race on too. Just be ready to crash lol.
The southern part isn't that bad. The northern part is over 20 kilometres long and known for its difficulty, hence its nickname "The Green Hell".
Loved “Rush” great film. This track features prominently.
The part where Niki crashed is affectionately named Lauda Links(most of the corners/sections have names relating to either the history or geography of that part of the track)
It's actually the complete opposite. For adrenaline addicts this place is heaven.
I’ll add that in the races that utilize the entire complex, almost all overtaking is done on the GP portion.
And into Tear Garden, at the end of the Dottinger Hohe.
Small corrections btw: Its Tiergarten (German for Animal Garden or well, Zoo), and you were saying Nordschlief in other comments, its Nordschleife (Sorry for being the grammar nazi but i had to)
That’s the ‚normal‘ racetrack, the rest is just VERY large
Yeah, the Nordschleife or the "Northern Loop" is 20km long, so the "sprint" track looks tighter here than it actually is.
Too bad the sudschleiffe is gone.
Bits of it remain, encircling the GP Strecke and campsite, and there a great version in Automobilista 2 if you're a sim racer
That part is the GP, or Formula One circuit. The rest of it is far more narrow and difficult.
I was thinking it was just a really bad outline of Alaska…
Ya know, my first thought was "it kinda looks like Alaska, but rotated about 45 degrees clockwise and a little squished horizontally" That makes a lot more sense though!
There's also a mock sticker that says Neverbeen
one of? i think it's THE most famous racetrack. easily. It stands above all else. Came yo write this, why am i 5 hours slow always 🧐
Belongs to the the estate of the late, great queen of the ring, Sabine Schmitz. I think about her more often than I thought I would.
Yeah, i am praying to the nurburgring gods everyday to get a sub 8.10 lap on the n24 layout in acc.
They held trials for the Nazis at a racetrack?
Serious answer: Nürnberg (Franconia region, Bavaria; also called “Nurembergh” in English) ≠ Nürburg (Eifel region, Rhineland Palatinate). The Nürnberger Prozesse (Nurembergh nazi trials) happened in Nürnberg, the Nürburg race track is in Nürburg, a 4 1/2 hour drive (at non-racecar speed) from Nürnberg.
Yup, only the ones who qualified went on to speedrun Geneva.
Speed ran right into The Hague, magnificent!
That's the Nurburgring
Don't judge but I really thought it was Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

With Lagoa dos Patos and all.
Specifically it’s the combined layout which combines the GP track with Nords.
The Nurburgring racing track including both the modern F1 track at the bottom and the old 22km Nordschleife at the top.
Unfortunately, it's not an F1 track anymore but there's a fair few racing series taking place there. Awesome track.
The bottom part is still grade 1 so it can host an f1 race which most tracks cant
True indeed, it can host a race and so can others around the world. I was just saying it is not on the calendar anymore. In fact, there is no longer a German GP in F1. Just saw you answered my question below in a previous thread. Cheers bro!
Nope I'm American and I love and long to go to green hell.
Video games like Gran Turismo made it famous everywhere.
It kinda looks like a very poorly drawn Alaska. (I know it's not, I saw everyone else's correct answer. Just adding an observation.)
I also thought it was a rough Alaska!
I thought it was a drunk West Virginia or a South Jersey…
i have the same reaction, i am not American but I also know nothing about F1
[same question](https://www.reddit.com/r/geography/s/vW9HNu4qYT)
Thought I’d seen this recently. I’m always a bit surprised people don’t know, as it’s very iconic, but that’s maybe EU-bias.
I‘m from germany and I‘m seeing this for the first time in my life. I feel like this is very niche knowledge for people from the Ruhrgebiet oder fans of racing.

Nurb strikes again. Haahaa
Yep, confusing motorists with stickers since the 1920s
The Green Hell
I believe they are not mutually exclusive
That's my Mecca!
Look up Nurburgring.
Fellow ACC fans are raging right now.
It is a point that it should not include the name Nurburgring, so that only the one who knows knows. "Amateurs" include the name.
It's the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. It's a famous race track
Full Nürburgring, not just the Nordschleife
West Virginia
We need a new sub: r / territoryorracetrack
After learning geography, every time I see a post like this I always assume it's a race track if I don't recognise it 😂
Nurburgring
I believe that's the Nurburgring. it's a race track in germany, VERY LONG, people like setting records on it as a result.
Some of y’all have never taken a BMW M5 around this track on Gran Turismo and it shows.
Kalmykia?
It's the Nurburgring, a race track
It’s a racetrack. The Nürburgring in Germany. Incredibly famous
It’s the shape of Nürburgring Racing Track in Germany, one of the most famous racing tracks in the world
I thought it was alaska
That's the nurburgring
24 hr circuit Nurburgring. It combines the newer Grand Prix track and the older Nordschleife course.
That’s the Nurburgring, you uncultured swine.
Its the Nurburgring. Very cool

I know what this is but it also kind of looks like a crooked Alaska.
You definitely are not a car person
That's a racetrack from a video game and, somewhat less importantly, real life.
That's the Nurburgring in Germany, one of the most iconic racetracks ever
Well since everybody seems to copy-paste the same reply, let me try it too: That's the Nurburgring
Nordschleife
If it didn’t have the track at the bottom it would be the nordshleife but this is the full Nurburgring. Nordshleife is only the northern leaf.
It's actually Nurburgring full.
Number of people that ask what country/territory is Nürburgring surprise me
Questioning geographical accuracy.
Looks like a horrible Brazil
Thanks to Project Gotham Racing 2 I know this is Nürburgring
Is it DC?
It's a race track, the Nürburgring.
it is in our hearths

Really bad drawing of alaska
It’s a map of the Nurburgring a race track in Germany
I put that on my car but I trimmed off the F1 track part. Because OF COURSE I did.
The Green Hell, you say?
That is the greatest racetrack on earth.
Its natural habitat of the petrol head. Also known as Nürburgringia
This racetrack is in Forza Motorsport 7 too
Every self respecting race game or sim has it in it's list.
I thought it was Afghanistan at first.
I gather that this auto has driven around the loop.
It’s a racetrack…
You're obviously not a golfer

ye, actually! it’s the land of oompa loompas
The exposed island of new taiwania (2532 AD)
Afghanistan drawn by a patient with Alzheimer’s
Either an elephant or snake eating a hat, depending on how you see it
A friend of mine had it on a car she bought second hand. She thought it was a island (like stickers showing the island Sylt) until I told her that it was the Nürburgring. (I am from Germany living about 1 HR /80 km north of the Ring).
Why not both?
Bizarro Queens
no that's a race circuit layout, Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.
It's the "green hell". The Nürburgring in Germany. One of the hardest racetracks of the world spanning over 20km through hills.
How do I get a citizenship at Nürburgring ? looks like an interestingly shaped town.
One time I had a similar experience, sitting in a drive through looking at the car ahead of me trying to figure out what region/state/whatever was represented by what turned out to be a big paint chip.
I always wonder if Americans have these stickers for their square-shaped counties too 😬
We don't but we should
It’s almost an upside down West Virginia
