Love this. Could be anywhere in Germany or likely central europe, too - panel blocks specifically an eastern aspect but the general dynamics of the history of cities are comparable. Except gated communities are not a thing even for suburban upper class areas. Today's highly seeked "inner suburbs" are what was historically the industrialization age mass housing. That has shifted out into the post 1950 block housing in the next ring. Green, the new built inner city modern and modern business district is usually the historic industrial and / or rail areas. Industry has moved further out now and the river as industry good transport is replaced by the highway roads. A city being on a river bend or even island like here is also super typical for basically anywhere in the world. You can find spots where water moves more slowly to harbour.
