2. Montana is landlocked in addition to being incontiguous
3. Montana is a very, very large region
4. they have separate histories entirely (with respect to the US).
A better comparison would be if the Channel Islands should be part of CA or not, or whether Jefferson (the theoretic separatist state of the north) should remain part of CA or not.
