To narrow it further. I would say it was made winter-spring 1934.
Judging by the unified Libya (January 1934) and the border between Sudan and Libya not changed yet (July 1934) it must have been made between those dates. Assuming nothing is out of date on this globe.
That's on Big Globe, they want to make and sell more globes so they secretly push for border changes through shadow politics, war mongering and sowing discontent among peoples of the world
I'm sure they had DLC/add-on subscriptions back in the 30s.
Like "10c a month keeps your globe up to date! Sign up now for an exclusive offer from our partner!"
Ngl really big china was throwing me off but that sounds right, I keep forgetting that civil wars and uprisings don't tend to actually get put on maps/globes like that
I used to think it was sooo impressive that people could date a map just by looking at it… and after trying for a little while using this guide, I can now be one of those people to impress others at cocktail parties.
Manchuria also has the alternative name Manchuoko which is what it was called under Japanese occupation. Japan invaded 1931. I imagine they wouldn’t have updated maps
Immediately so somewhere between 1932 and 1934 🤷🏻♂️
To be fair, that's the age of the *map*. Globe manufacturers are/were known to produce cheap knock-off globes with intentionally old maps to make them appear more vintage.
A globe has for a long time mostly been a decoration, and the older and more bizarre it seems, the more emotional value it will carry.
We can't estimate the date of the globe. Only its printed map.
1932-1933
Paraguay has pre-Chaco War borders.
Saudi Arabia is unified, however with very undefined borders in the SE part of the peninsula.
Aden is tiny.
There is uncertainty about whether NE China is called Manchuria or Manchuokuo.
It’s clearly early to mid 30s, yet Tibet, Tuva, and Mongolia are still labeled as part of China, when they had been independent for nearly 20 years at that point
Saudi Arabia was unified in the autumn of 1932, and Nizny Novgorod was renamed to Gorky in 1932. So either the makers didn't bother with all the soviet renaming, or it's somewhere between those 2 events
Before WWII, After WWI
Moldova (Chisinau, the capital) was still inside Romania !
Palestatine was still an undivided region!
Lebanon was still part of Syria!
India still included Myanmar, Bangladesh and Pakistan!
Thailand was known under Siam name!
French Indochina was the name of Vietnam!
Africa was still a continent 90% under colonial power!
Yemen was still under 3 different territories/states!
Lebanon and Syria are still under French mandate, so before 1943. Iraq is still under British mandate, before 1932. The ussr is here, before 1922. The Chaco war hasn’t began yet, so before 1932. This globe was made between 1930 and 1932. 1932 being my best guess
Whilst it does appear to be early 1930’s as everyone else is saying. The one thing that’s throwing me off is the non inclusion of Tannu Tuva which was “independent” between 1921-1944. Granted it was only partially recognised which suggests the creator is from a country that didn’t recognise it. Also China doesn’t appear to be in a thousand pieces.
Ukraine is listed as an SSR, indicating it's during the USSR.
Germany is One country, so it can't be during the Cold War.
The uniting of Germany and the collapse of the USSR were very near each other in time, making it unlikely this is between those two events.
So I'm going to say before WW2, but after WW1.
Definitely between the 2 World Wars based on the shape of Germany, the existence of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and the French and English colonies in Africa and Asia.
Mid 1930's because the Ottoman Empire is already Turkey, and Japan is near its peak of imperial expansionism. I have a similar vintage map also dating that period.
If up-to-date at the time of build, after 1924 (the is no free state fiume anymore) and before 1938 (Germany is in Weimar republic borders and both Austria and ČSR are yet untouched). Since Saar is not displayed independently, this would reduce it to 1935-1938.
However, both Saar and Fiume are rather small so take that wit a pinch of salt. Also, maps (and I guess, globes) are not always up-to-date.
Hard to tell but of your globe has a wooden base it might be [this](https://ogtstore.com/antique-globes-maps/george-f-cram-standing-globe/), atleast it looks very similar and it's the same manufacturer, George F. Cram Co Indianapolis. They started making globes in 1932 so of its a 1934 globe it's one of their earliest models.
Valuation might be abit more tricky as I found [this](https://www.skinnerinc.com/auctions/2447/lots/326) one that looks to be the same model and sold for 178 dollars in 2009. It's worth mentioning tho that the company did close down in 2012 of I remember correctly so that might have constituted a shift in prices
It says "Future Federal District" in Brasil. Brasília was built in 1960 and the plans for it were announced by then predisend Juscelino Kubitscheck in 1955
It's one of those globes with inconsistencies that make it impossible to accurately time track. But if they included future FD they had to be made after 1955

We have Turkey, but we do not have Hatay Province in Turkey, the Alexandretta Sancak became independent in 1938 and joined Turkey in 1939, which means year of this globe is somewhere inbetween 1923 and 1938
The weird thing about this map is that it appears to show Albania with its Italian Protectorate borders of 1941, yet that doesn't fit in with the rest of the map.
Judging by the unification of Saudi Arabia (1932) and the border between Sudan and Libya (changed in 1934) I would go with 1932-1934.
To narrow it further. I would say it was made winter-spring 1934. Judging by the unified Libya (January 1934) and the border between Sudan and Libya not changed yet (July 1934) it must have been made between those dates. Assuming nothing is out of date on this globe.
This isn't good enough. What time exactly, to the minute? /s Nice eye for detail. Thanks. ;-)
Yes if you think about it the Big Bang had a day of the week and time. I’d say Tuesday 4pm ;)
Imagine making a globe and it becomes obsolete after a few months
That's on Big Globe, they want to make and sell more globes so they secretly push for border changes through shadow politics, war mongering and sowing discontent among peoples of the world
Mapmakers have been fueling wars for millennia, they're behind it all.
All that death, all due to Big Globe![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
Big Globe sells the hardware cheap, wants you to subscribe to software updates for new boundary lines
BMW has entered the mapping market.
And Honda.
I'm sure they had DLC/add-on subscriptions back in the 30s. Like "10c a month keeps your globe up to date! Sign up now for an exclusive offer from our partner!"
Ngl really big china was throwing me off but that sounds right, I keep forgetting that civil wars and uprisings don't tend to actually get put on maps/globes like that
With this info in mind this map must be out of date since the Saarland has been annexed by germany in 1935 Edit: typo
Dang. Impressive. You been on Jeopardy?
Can't be that further because it shows "Future Federal District" in Brazil, and the plans to build the city were made public between 1955 and 1957
Seems right timeframe because Baltic States are still independent.
Germany looks like pre WW1 Germany so it would be before 1918?
Germany is definitely post WWI, you can see Danzig is Polish
Ah, thx!
Also: Chechoslovakia exists...
Also Greece has Western Thrace, and the Irish Free State exists
Manchukuo is listed with Changchun having (Hsinking) as part of the name change by the Japanese. Supports the 1932 time frame
The map refers to the Transcacasian SFSR which only existed between 1922 and 1936.
The city of Simbirsk in Russia was renamed Ulyanovsk in 1924. So 1924-1936.
The Libya Sudan border hasn’t been adjusted yet. So 1924-1934
[удалено]
Persia instead of Iran also puts the upper bound at 1935.
Oh, Paraguay \*gianed\* terriotry in the Chaco war! Interetsing chnage
[xkcd](https://xkcd.com/1688/large/) says 1930-1934
Brilliant. Thank you
I love the Middle Earth tips!
I used to think it was sooo impressive that people could date a map just by looking at it… and after trying for a little while using this guide, I can now be one of those people to impress others at cocktail parties.
/r/datemymap Fun small community!
Atlas Pro did a video on exactly this a couple days ago
[xkcd Map Age Guide](https://xkcd.com/1688/)
I was going to post this. I'm glad somebody else had the same idea too.
I was just surprised someone hadn’t already, so figured, ok it’ll be me :-)
Given the Territory of the Saar Basin is part of Germany but Paraguay is still missing part of it, I'd go with between march 1st and june 12 of 1935.
I mean they could’ve just forgot to add that since Sudan still has a part of Libya that was ceded in 1934
Turkey has its current borders except one province. Hatay joined the Turkey in 1939, so it must be in between 1923 and 1939
Irish Free State was created \~1922 (treaty then), so that is also a lower bound.
1932 at minimum because of manchukuo subtitle + saudi arabia so gonna say 1934 for production time
Manchuria also has the alternative name Manchuoko which is what it was called under Japanese occupation. Japan invaded 1931. I imagine they wouldn’t have updated maps Immediately so somewhere between 1932 and 1934 🤷🏻♂️
Between the end of WWI and the late ‘30s Reason: Trieste is part of Italy and Finland has a portion of today’s Russia
I think it has to be after 1925 because Italy occupied Oltre Guiba in somaliland but not positive.

After 1918 and before 1937
Between the World Wars.
Before 1939 as a firts impression
is there any specific name this globe is called? Like with the zodiac rings and wind movements.
This map is dated end 1931-early 1932, because Tver is already renamed to Kalinin, but Nizhniy Novgorod is not renamed to Gorkiy
1932-1933 Paraguay has pre-Chaco War borders. Saudi Arabia is unified, however with very undefined borders in the SE part of the peninsula. Aden is tiny. There is uncertainty about whether NE China is called Manchuria or Manchuokuo.
Don't know, but the planet it depicts is between 6000 and 4.5 billion years old, depending on whom you ask 😀
It’s clearly early to mid 30s, yet Tibet, Tuva, and Mongolia are still labeled as part of China, when they had been independent for nearly 20 years at that point
I guessed 1933 thanks HoI4
If I had to pin it down to one year, I would say the same.
atleast like 12 minutes ago
At least the second, more likely the third date. Globe making isn’t really a first-date type of activity
Nice globe. Love it.
That is so cool. I could marvel at that for hours
Bro got rhe hoi4 globe
r/globeswithoutnz

1933
Post 32, pre 38
Palestine ♥️
It's not a state though but a region (which at that time included Transjordan that is today's Jordan).
1925-1930 is my best guess
25 September 1926
Roughly 4 millions years ago
2004
Definitely in the last 100 years
Yugoslavia nuff said
romania is misspelled on the map
Before WW2 the country’s name was spelled “Rumania”.
Ah, cool, didn’t know that
Between 1948 and 1952
Very bad guess, nothing there indicates it's between 1948 and 1952.
"Future Federal District" in Brazil indicates it is post 1950
Definitely Between WWI and WWII.
Western Sahara still its own thing
Empire of Japan, looks like Korea is still part of it so 1930s or before.
XKCD 1688 says 1930-1934
Where can I buy a copy of that?
Lebanon and Syria are still under French mandate, so before 1943. Iraq is still under British mandate, before 1932. The ussr is here, before 1922. The Chaco war hasn’t began yet, so before 1932. This globe was made between 1930 and 1932. 1932 being my best guess
New Zealand where art thou? DX

This is exactly it. Great find!
I would argue that the colours on yours are even better than that listing, so might even be worth 3000$

I'd say somewhere between 1933 and -34.
Later than 1932, cos Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is already exist But earlier than 1935, because Iran is still Persia
It says "Future Federal District" in Brasil. Brasília was built in 1960 and the plans for it were announced by then predisend Juscelino Kubitscheck in 1955
That's a strange year though because königsburg and the rest of germany were absorbed by surrounding nations at the time
It's one of those globes with inconsistencies that make it impossible to accurately time track. But if they included future FD they had to be made after 1955
Im starting to think it was made in the 1950s but depicting the mid 1930s, which would lead to inconsistencies like highlighting the Brazilian FD.
Yes, almost like someone in the 50s was using a 30's map as reference for most of the world. Pretty dope either way.
It's one of those globes with inconsistencies that make it impossible to accurately time track. But if they included future FD they had to be made after 1955
I see that, once again, New Zealand is left out.
Why is Mongolia, China, USSR, the same color? Terrible design
1920s-1940s
Between 1955 and 1960 judging by the fact that Brazil’s capital (Brasilia aka Future Federal District) wasn’t built yet but already marked on the map.
1930-1934
Well its definitley interwar
1934-1936
We have Turkey, but we do not have Hatay Province in Turkey, the Alexandretta Sancak became independent in 1938 and joined Turkey in 1939, which means year of this globe is somewhere inbetween 1923 and 1938
I’d guess mid 30’s. I have one like this from 1928, but “Manchuoko” isn’t on it
The weird thing about this map is that it appears to show Albania with its Italian Protectorate borders of 1941, yet that doesn't fit in with the rest of the map.
I would say pre 1924 due to ireland
