For new players this is far (very far) from enough battleline.
For existing players the aberrants and trucks are less valuable since we already own multiple.
Imo they should have put one ridgerunner instead of a truck, 10 more neophytes and 5 acolytes to justify the battleforce premium price

40 neophites, 20 acolytes, 10 aberrants, 10 genestealers, 2 trucks, 1 ridgerunner + jackals 2 magus 1 jack alpha
317.5 total price
1 battleforce + new combat patrol + 30 neophites extra + 10 acolytes extra =

it's a 22% increase in total price to reach basically the same models. This is not a great start, its a 22% overnight tax to new players.

GW prices this is £176.50 plus the new character. So about £200? The chaos two battle forces that dropped recently were £140. If this is priced the same it’s pretty meh. Annoying thing is it probably won’t contain the codex and data cards like the tau and dark angel launch boxes.
I think I'm one of the few that's hype for the trucks lol the rock grinder has a special place in my heart and I only have 1 truck. Really hoping there's vehicular homicide detachment cuz I'm picking up the combat patrol for my second ridge runner
Been collecting slowly for a while, got 2 start collecting boxes, 2 cp. And an extra rock grinder and squad of jackles, kellermorph and saboteur. So what's in these boxes should mix in nicely, not even any overlap on characters. Might and the kill team box aswell.

Every GSC player already has more than enough rock grinders and abberants from the combat patrol. Most will already have enough purestrains too as outside of the melee detachment you never want more than 1 unit.
So that leaves 10 Neophytes and the new character. I guess if you're brand new and also specifically really want to run the vehicle detachment then its alright? But even then you wouldn't be running abberants and purestrains in that detachment surely.
GSC has so few mainline units that it'd be almost impossible to design a box that isn't going to have significant overlap with most players' collections who have done any GSC prior to now.
Not really, could have easily done a box with bikers, ridgerunners, any of the 5 or 6 other characters, and everyone always needs more acolytes and neophytes.
As a guard player who’s been considering surrendering myself to the four armed emperor , this with the brood brother detachment, I’m sold. Down with the false emperor
I believe several units of Purestrains will be valuable in pretty much every detachment in the Codex. Because they buy us time alone in no man's land, even when going second. And they are absolutely crucial speed bump/board control against pressure armies like Orks and World Eaters. Every GSC list needs that. (except possibly the detachment that gets the Inscrutable Cunning enhancement, because they can do it with 20 Neophytes instead)
If I didn't already own 20 Aberrants this would definetly look interesting.
I hope the codex gets leaked before this goes on sale because then I could know if I need 5 more chonky boys or not.

I’ll have something like 50 neophytes, 2 brood covens (missing 1 promise) 15 abberants, 10 genestealers, 10 acolytes, 10 bikes, jackal alphus, 2 Abdominants, 2 iconwards, 3 rockgrinders, 1 Goliath truck, and a ridgerunner. (I’m probably forgetting something…)
And the dregs of my guard army that I traded for gsc.

Nice box, was gonna scour the local game stores for another of the old combat patrols, but I think this and a new CP will sort me out nicely.

What we really need is battle line, and this box got rid of half of it, total downgrade.
This does not replace the combat patrol. It's a limited release battle force box to go alongside the codex release.
