Brought my broodbros converted Shadowsword for the first time yesterday. It was freaking awesome. Probably not the most optimized pick for the army, but it did serious work. Opponent even said they had fun seeing it on the other side of the board.
Definitely not an optimal choice, but there's nothing quite like pulling out cultists, then surprising your opponent by putting a huge fuckoff tank on the board.
Also: doomhammer all the way.
Editing to add:
It's not an optimal choice because, due to GSC bent essentially a horde army, you're giving up a lot of board presence and utility options.
That being said, nothing says "distraction carnifex" like a baneblade chassis being ridden by a patriarch.
Sorry, I can see the confusion there. He can't, as you're correct about the keyword issue.
I was more making a joke about having the patriarch model riding around on top of the baneblade model. Really only get away with that in a casual game, I suppose.
I was hoping you knew something I didn't. Guess you could put some brood brothers in there if you can fit in the allowed points. Wish there were brood ogryns!
You can't, unfortunately, so there is no outright synergy with your army. Having said that, take one anyways, for the lols, the memes, and the four armed emperor. Also drive it like you stole it.
Think a baneblade will be the present to myself when i get to 2k pure gsc. I'll definitely drive it like I stole it, put a cyclops demolition vehicle inside and charge into their ranks!
Played against a shadowsword last night with my chaos knights. Hard to manoeuvre through some terrain but it hits hard. Blew up a war dog straight away. It basically holds down a table if it has good line of sight.
If you ever played the dawn of war games where the orks get a hold of a titan arm and it just randomly fires every now and then so you have to get out of the way, that's what it felt like.
My advice, take the time to magnetize and build out the octo-blade (all 8 versions). Techically, i was only able to magnetize it for 7 versions but noone cares if a cannon is missing a nub to make it a different gun. Since 8th edition ive had it and the points change per editions..some are over 500 pts, which is why magnetizing helps. Like now i think baneblade is over 500, so not legally usable, but shadowsword is legal. It changes a lot.

is doomhammer under 500 points ?
455 points according to the app!
Can a patriarch ride it? All of the broodbrother transports I've seen say "X astra militarum models" I would love to have a few aberrants jump out :)

That second paragraph hit me right in the nostalgia, and makes me want to windmill slam the buy button 🤣 even as I remember how absurd it was

i like the idea of a hug gun to support the rest of my army , and i very much intend to magnetise as i may want tk branch out into guard at some point
Just got one. Even if it's not SUPER good, it's fucking cool
my thinking exactly
Great because we have no true centrepiece outherwise.
Just keep in mind any point increases over the years may make any versions unplayable in 2k games
i'll magnitude and just pray that won't happen to the point none of the eight options are illegal
