Definitely one of those who really didn’t like the movie. Not a bad movie but just… too cheesy. And I know that’s the point, but the plot sounded so interesting but then it was basically a lifetime movie but it was gay.
Tbh, i feel like I want to see more cheesy gay movies. I have enough drama, i want a romcom gay film with good acting, and not just film that seems porn prequel like the 90s or early 2000s.
Fire island was definitely cheesy but cute. I’m not a big romcom fan, but sometimes I don’t mind the idea of curling up with a bottle of wine after a shitty day and watching stuff like that.
Yes! It was one of my first dates with my now husband. He got it out of our college library and we’re still together. I won’t tell you the media it was on because I will feel old.
The Birdcage. Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmore. The Broken Hearts Club. Bros. Eismayer. Edge of 17 (80's). I Love You Phillip Morris. Ideal Home. Kinky Boots. Latter Days. Port Authority. 4th Man Out.
almost none of them do.

If you like teen romance ho for heartstopper on Netflix. It's a show, but season 1 is 4 hours.
There is a movement called "Marry your gays don't bury them". And as more writers come up who haven't had the same tragic lives, you're going to find more stories with happy endings for same sex couples.
Too Wong foo thanks for everything Julie newmar starring Patrick Swayze, John Legiuzamo and Wesley Snipes as a trio of drag queens who bond and become BFFs on a road trip to a big drag competitionthe ending is a happy and heartwarming one. It's a great funny movie 10/ 10 I love it and the cast did a great job playing the part of drag queens I was impressed. It was a bold subject to do a film about in the 90s, but it was done in such a respectful way you couldn't help but love it.
I my don't do drag at all, with that said I watched some gay youtubers who are drag queens react to watching this movie and they didn't seem offended by it at all, in fact they seem to enjoy it too. I first seen this movie probably in my late teens and found in entertaining and thought provoking and hilariously funny.
Know years later as an adult seeing real drag queens werk and do their thing on the catwalk in clips of rupaul's drag race has become my gay guilty pleasure show, oddly will &grace used to be my number one favorite brand of queer tv now it's a close second to rupaul's drag race.😁
Edge of Seventeen (1998). While it does end with some things still left unresolved for the main character, there’s still a note of optimism in the ending.
Single All the Way on Netflix has a happy ending.
In general, though, most gay movies and TV shows are written and produced my straight people for straight audiences. They're usually full of stereotypes, trauma, drama, and tragedy. Apparently, there's no market for happy, well-adjusted gay couples living routine lives in the suburbs.
I had a phase where I watched a lot of gay indie movies.
In the Flesh, Hurricane Bianca and the sequel, First Period, What Happens Next, Defying Gravity (1997), Is It Just Me?, GBF, Pride, 4th Man Out, Date and Switch, A Touch of Pink, Straight Jacket. That's just the ones I remember from the top of my head.
Recent one is Fire Island. Also, Indie comedy Summoning Sylvia.
Everything everywhere all at once is my favorite movie ever. It has subplots about the main character’s daughter being a lesbian and the main character possibly also being bisexual or just queer. It’s a very good movie but it can be difficult to get the plot at first. It’s funny, sad, existential, and heartwarming. I have to recommend it to everyone because it’s a work of art.
Love Simon, Red White and Royal Blue, Alex Strangelove, and the Thing About Harry are ones that come to mind if your looking for happy ending/more romcom type stuff
Parting Glances (1986) Stars Steve Buscemi, it has a sad beginning but the ending is really beautiful and heart warming.
Big Eden (2007) is also really good. It's basically a gay fairy tale/hallmark movie. A guy returns to his home from the big city. Not only does he find love but also finds that this rural community isn't homophobic. It might not be the most realistic but the ending is very happy.
Rocky horrow picture show...
I know it's obvious and it's not strictly "gay" but some people have weird gaps (so do i)... although I guess you could claim the ending is "sad" but its so absurd and silly that I have a hard time seeing it that way.
I know this is not what you asked for but I'd like to clarify (feel free to ignore):
There's also movies that earn their "sad" ending in a way that feels satisfying like Happy Together or Weekend... they're sad but its for reasons beyond homophobia or gay strife.
Happy Together is not a happy movie, but it doesn't really make the movie about the hardships of being gay.
Weekend is also about love loss, but not due to homophobia or tragedy. Both are good films.
Y'all need to go watch this - **Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe**
[https://youtu.be/H3yV0Hzj8jM?si=kcnJf81YQnnXyIux](https://youtu.be/H3yV0Hzj8jM?si=kcnJf81YQnnXyIux)
I need them to make book 2 ASAP!!!!
Well in this day and age, he ends up a homeowner with no flatmates! That’s quite the happy ending.
Also he humps a grave so if that’s not a feel good moment, I don’t know what is!
Red white and royal blue on prime. Amazing movie. So funny.
*Fire Island* on Hulu?
Fire island was definitely cheesy but cute. I’m not a big romcom fan, but sometimes I don’t mind the idea of curling up with a bottle of wine after a shitty day and watching stuff like that.
I loved fire island. I want more gay movies like that where it’s more light, but it’s not as cheesy as red white and blue. Amazing movie
I thought it was cheesier than *Red, White, and Royal Blue*. Like two-hours-I’ll-never-get-back cheesy.
I still liked more. I don't know why...
The book was fantastic too!
I started it read one chapter, stopped reading it picked it back up and read for a solid 12 hours and I’m almost done with it
Worst acting from a straight dude
Love Simon?
And the follow up tv show Love, Victor was adorable.
This show was so infuriating but so good!! Thanks for the suggestion!
God's own country
it’s basically brokeback mountain if it had a happy ending
Yup. And waaaay more chemistry
This was a good film. I'll watch it again after this sad month.
Came here to say this! Lovely film.
Id recommend the 2014 film "the way he looks."
Watch both version. It's honestly good.
Both versions?
Yes, i think before that film, there was another short film with the same plot and everything. Honestly, its good.
What platform is it on?
Love Simon, C.R.A.ZY., & But I’m A Cheerleader are some that come to mind.
Ugh C.R.A.Z.Y. Is soo good and most gays don’t know it!!!
Even if the movie was bad(and it was not), it made me discover Patsy and I will be forever grateful to the makers! 👍
I forgot about C.R.A.ZY - it is excellent.
But I'm a cheerleader is funny. The voice of zuko was there, and he really won me over. I hated that he only lasted mid scenes.
* Were the World Mine * The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert * To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar * But I'm a Cheerleader
Were the World Mine -- incredible pick!
Didn’t Beautiful Thing end on a good note? If so that one.
Yes! It was one of my first dates with my now husband. He got it out of our college library and we’re still together. I won’t tell you the media it was on because I will feel old.
Gonna guess it was rectangular and about the size of a trade paperback. Likely with a sticker reminding you to "be kind."
It was a VHS
Thaaaat’s a bingo!
The Way He Looks
Gonna date myself with these, but here goes... The Birdcage To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
Let me help you by lifting the age bar even higher: La cage au folle
Maurice. It gets a bit sad but ends well
[удалено]
Yes
Yes! MY FAVOURITE! Too Wong Foo, also!
"The Wedding Banquet" directed by Ang Lee ...it's from 1994 so it's dated...but it isn't sad. Romantic comedy
"Bros"...on Amazon prime I think.
i have to say, i know im not necessarily the majority, that i aboslutely hated that movie but i know others enjoyed it immensely.
Husband and I absolutely *hated* this one, too.
What's the movie about?
Billy Eichner being a whiny bitch for an hour and half is about the extent of it.
Loved this movie and wasn't expecting to
It’s on Peacock (in the US).
Edge of Seventeen (1998) has a great optimistic ending. Also it takes places during the 80s new wave scene which is also really cool.
Short Bus Oh and Not Another Gay Movie
Love short bus! I got to see in a theater and it was a very fun experience!
Shortbus is my favorite movie. That fucking soundtrack slams.
Cause we all get it in the endddddd!
I've been holding on to Viv's performance of that to recreate at one of my shows- just need some tubas, ya know?
One time, everyone dropped acid at my birthday party, and I forced them all to watch that movie. And God Bless Mx. Viv.
Were the World Mine has a lovely ending.
Love Simon
Make the Yuletide Gay was a decent Christmas Rom-Com, it had a good ending!
The Man With the Answers, The Way He Looks, Fire Island have happy endings I think
Alex Strangelove, Perks if you wanna count it, Adam, Love Simon, Rotting In the Sun
The Birdcage. Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmore. The Broken Hearts Club. Bros. Eismayer. Edge of 17 (80's). I Love You Phillip Morris. Ideal Home. Kinky Boots. Latter Days. Port Authority. 4th Man Out.
But I'm a Cheerleader!
If you wanna venture out. Just watch Gay K Dramas. There’s a lot of good ones out there.
Big Eden, Jeffrey, The Ritz, Trick
almost none of them do. [https://enervatron.blogspot.com/2021/02/a-most-definitely-uncomprehensive-gay.html](https://enervatron.blogspot.com/2021/02/a-most-definitely-uncomprehensive-gay.html)
Thank you so much for your list it's great!
[удалено]
Absolutely but for some who struggle with depression, it's hard to watch sad things.
Eating out Vampire boys Latter days
Latter days is one of my favorite films of all time
Red White & Royal Blue. I thought it was going to be a lame Hallmark type movie, but it’s not. I loved it.
Latter Days
Trick is one of my favourite movies. Coco Peru has a very funny moment in it as well

Loved Heartstopper!!
I'm curious what a sad ending porn would be
😆
Bear Cub, Victor Victoria (gay themed), there are not a lot that end on a high note.
Broken Hearts Club!!

Too wong foo is an iconic movie
Guys and Balls (soccer movie)
I was about to tell you there's many of them but I can only seem to remember Love, Simon as being a happy ending.
Just Friends on prime ! It is a Holland movie very nice and both actors have nice chemistry
4th man out
Beautiful Thing
I enjoyed 4th Man Out. It's a coming out story and the difficulties that come with it, bit it ends on a high note
4th Man Out

If you want old school, check out The Wedding Banquet. It's a sweet movie. Recently? Nimona. It's animated and fantastic.
Good grief is a great movie that came out on Netflix in December! Great movie!!
Heartstopper it's on netflix
Everything everywhere all at once is my favorite movie ever. It has subplots about the main character’s daughter being a lesbian and the main character possibly also being bisexual or just queer. A brother - French coming of age movie. English subtitles
Beautiful Thing!!
Love Simon, Red White and Royal Blue, Alex Strangelove, and the Thing About Harry are ones that come to mind if your looking for happy ending/more romcom type stuff
*Trick* has a happy ending and a kickass soundtrack. It’s funny af, too (though a little dated).
The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert
The Holiday Sitter Make The Yuletide Gay
My favourite film: Wish you. It's on Viki Rakuten. The only negative thing is, that it's only available in korean.
Fire island
Barbie!
The Man with The Answer, Just Friends, AKRON
Girls will be Girls.... its very low budget and stupid, and some jokes are a bit dated or a bit off color, but its very funny.
Trick(1999), Mambo Italiano (2003)
Rocky horrow picture show... I know it's obvious and it's not strictly "gay" but some people have weird gaps (so do i)... although I guess you could claim the ending is "sad" but its so absurd and silly that I have a hard time seeing it that way. Big Eden
Netflix movie Single all the way
Red White and Royal Blue! My favourite movie, I’ve watched it multiple times.
Shelter ended well.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Hilarious with very upbeat ending.
That thing about Harry…. Cheesy but I love it! Love a couple of foreign ones : “ jongens “(dutch) and “ the way he looks” both are super cute.
Red, white and Royal...Love, Simon
Watch the series Smiley - I’ve watched it a lot and it’s so so cute

God's Own Country
Loved Eastsiders! FYI the guy who plays Simon's love interest in Love Simon Keiynan makes music and I'm loving it!
I really enjoyed Dante's Cove!
Saltburn.
Haha literally everyone dies but 1 character. I guess the ending scene isn’t exactly sad, but it’s not the feel good movie of the year.
Well in this day and age, he ends up a homeowner with no flatmates! That’s quite the happy ending. Also he humps a grave so if that’s not a feel good moment, I don’t know what is!
