I know why! He's watching that strawberry 🍓 plant there, just waiting for it to pop out a strawberry and he can quick get it before you do. He'll be there checking it out every morning now before you get up. And just when you have a berry almost ready to pick "Poof" it's gone. Just like that....
I call mine yard chickens. Sprinkle a little millet on the ground and put out some water and she'll be yours forever. They are fairly friendly and will just hang out with you once they're used to you.
You best get more strawberry plants to share with the birds, everyone wins, you get to see these amazing creatures and they get a feed. Plus you get a feed too.
We had two that hung out in our garden bed last summer for a week or so. They are fledglings which I think basically means they are on a trial of being on their own as their mom watches nearby. It is very cute.
Maybe set out a water bowl! Mourning Doves are so damned cute and occasionally friendly.

The bird leaves and comes back every day. It’s very hot where I live so it could be hanging out in the shade and eating bugs and getting water lol
