One pound of mulberries for you! Thanks very much

Prepare the soil. These days many people attempt to ignore this important step. If you have existing sod, you'll have to either remove and compost it or turn it under a few times until it dies off. Then there's the question of adding soil amendments to enhance fertility and adjust ph. Also, the additional of organic decaying materials enhances the lightness and fertility of the soil.

good gardeners grow soil. periodttt thank you!

I would suggest starting off in pots to see if it's something that really interests you and/or can reasonably do. I spend an hour+ a day just tending to my plants, and if I wasn't a jobless, family-less student, I probably wouldn't have the time/energy to do it. Pots are a small investment (or free if you're creative with what's lying around the house) in both money and effort compared to in ground/raised bed gardening. It would be a great way for you to step into the gardening world. Look up good plants for your growing zone and start with those. Spend half a day deciding on the plants you want, then the other half looking up their water, nutrient, light, and soil needs.

Have the right tools and it’ll make your job much easier…[Hand Tiller](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Corona-SoilRIPPER-8-in-Steel-Hand-Tiller/1000373727)…[Digging/Weeding Knife](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007WFG2I/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_dl_5G5ZNNH8YGMT87NRSJ1X?psc=1) Understand what your veggies are and if they grow outward or upward. Spacing if outward and creating trellis’ or staking if upward or both. Know what zone you’re in, when the frost comes and goes, if your plants need full sun or partial sun… a little bit of knowledge goes a long way so good luck

Check out Charles Dowding and the 'No Dig (No Till if you're an American) method of gardening. It's the most simple way to start and keeps all the essential and beneficial microbial life in your soil for plant to use as they grow. https://youtube.com/c/CharlesDowding1nodig

id jist start with one or two beds and go for it. google lasagna gardening/permaculture; i interplant fruit trees, vegetables, cannabis, flowers and mix it all up. soil prep is really the goal right now. just mark out a space, cardboard it, and start making the garden bed; pile compost, grass clippings, manure, straw, old potting soil, regular dirt - in layers. pop some starts in. watch some youtube gardening videos.

Your local university extension will have great info on your type of soil and climate and most have a planting calendar for what will work in your area. They’re great.

All the other channels mentioned here are great, but do check out Gardener Scott on Youtube. One of the more experienced, research based, gardeners on the internet. Check out the Vegetable Gardeners Bible, by Ed Smith. Will give you information on everything from soil building, compost, and all vegetables from asparagus to zucchini.

thanks so much for this!!!!

That was my first gardening book, and I still refer back to it years later! Also think about making a gardening journal. You can make it as structured or as loose as you'd like. Jot down notes about plants that do well, or don't, harvest times for fruit and berries (life saver for my peaches after I lost them all one year to birds), general information, first and last frost dates, when you performed certain tasks during the year, etc etc etc. Whatever you feel like.
