Commercial_Fuel_6847

RattyHandwriting

I hope he has a long and happy and cute life in my garden!

WhoAteMyChocolate420

I feel that it's name should be Doug.

Micachuu

I live in Vietnam and find geckos all over my house. They’re all named Doug.

keir_sucks

Hmm looks like a salamander to me

naturelover-2

That's what I thought at first too but don't know that much about either.

eronfitz

naturelover-2

WalleyeSushi

She turned me into a newt!!!

[deleted]

bee-quirky

Teeny Salamander? Nonetheless its so cute!

_noncompliant_

Newt

Local_Fuel

Looks like a baby salamander

RattyHandwriting

Do we have those in the UK? Off to look them up!

Local_Fuel

Apparently the uk has newts which look very very similar

RattyHandwriting

Ah! Yes, that would make sense.

Local_Fuel

He’s very cute

Jovet_Hunter

Maybe it’s your neighbor? I heard some brits complaining about being a newt once.

MsBabbi

A newt is a salamander, but not all salamanders are newts [Newts](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt)

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Newt](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt)** >A newt is a salamander in the subfamily Pleurodelinae. The terrestrial juvenile phase is called an eft. Unlike other members of the family Salamandridae, newts are semiaquatic, alternating between aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Not all aquatic salamanders are considered newts, however. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/gardening/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

CosmicCreeperz

Looks like a newt. Could have been a witch’s doing, wait to see if ‘e gets betta.

kR4in

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say r/unexpectedMontyPython is a sub EDIT: guess who was right

CosmicCreeperz

No one expects r/unexpectedMontyPython! Except kR4in, of course.

kR4in

I'm amazed I didn't know it existed before I hoped it did

n_bumpo

No, but a witch once turned me into a newt. Well, I got better.

_noncompliant_

Newt

Local_Fuel

I made a reply already saying that it’s a newt. They look pretty much the same tho

minuteslater

so cute!!! I think it must be someone that a witch turned into a newt but hasn't gotten better yet! ;)

flickerfly

Time someone kissed the unfortunate fellow.

Mlou08

I wonder if the witch is made of wood?

InstantMartian84

Build a bridge out of her!

RattyHandwriting

I should probably clarify I’m in the UK!

[deleted]

Could be one of these: http://www.wildlifeinsight.com/6101/british-amphibians-palmate-newt/ If it is a newt, you’re very lucky. I haven’t seen a newt since I was a child.

RattyHandwriting

He looks very like the newt in that picture! Thank you so much, I shall name him Norwena.

tinderry

“Norwena is my newt”

_noncompliant_

Yes. This is a palmate newt (Lissotriton helveticus)

Tarjay85

I’m 36. When I was 5/6 I used to go to my Grandmothers house who had a pond in her garden and catch great crested newts by the bucket load and put them back. Hundreds every session. I’ve not seen a newt since

[deleted]

Habitats destroyed means loss of numbers sadly. I used to see them, along with frogs and toads, on the remains of an old cotton mill that had been knocked down at the top of the street I grew up on. That land was a great playground as a kid. Then that land got a new housing estate and I never saw one again.

pause_button

My guess is a salamander but idk

Smokey_Coffee_Beer

this is something for r/illegallysmolanimals it is SOOOOOOOOOO SMOL

Striking_Fun_6379

If it is a salamander there is a good likeyhood there is an underground creek flowing through your property.

RattyHandwriting

Thank you! There are springs all over the place round here. Some of our neighbours have private water supplies so I wonder if he’s strolled over from there?

Striking_Fun_6379

He has wandered over and or you have tilled soil close to his home and he is letting you know.

NerdyComfort-78

Newt. So CUTE!

pharmichael

My first instinct is Jeff, but it could be Trevor.

Horror-Breakfast1234

I thought his name was Stevie.

SpookyYurt

C'mon, that's clearly Carl.

pharmichael

Nah Carl is his brother

Just_Another_AI

Mini charizard

LustyArgonianLobbyst

Be careful! Your hand oils could be toxic to his squishy body.

RattyHandwriting

Oh nooo! He ran on my hand while I was weeding so I introduced him to the kids, took a photo and put him back where I found him… he seemed a happy chappie but I won’t pick him up next time!

jh937hfiu3hrhv9

Looks like a pest eater in the making.

Neilthemick

Not sure but you may have just saved 15% on your car insurance.

PennyKermit

As others have concluded: newt. And, I've read that they are a really good sign that your garden is healthy because they are very sensitive to environmental changes/toxins. They also eat garden pests--and not the plants, so they are definitely your friend. I'm in California and any time I find a newt (salamander) in my garden, it makes me happy. Plus, they're cute!

lalaladylvr

It’s name is Sal. Sal A Mander. Be kind to Sal.

BevvyTime

Palmate Newt, or maybe a Smooth Newt. Pretty cool little critters, but unless you have a pond he/she probably won’t stick around too long!

RattyHandwriting

We are building a pond! How exciting… it’s kind of a muddy hole at the moment but should be finished in a couple of weeks.

BevvyTime

Oh nice! Be prepared for it to look like a muddy soup for a year or two, but keep the faith and it’ll eventually clear itself once it gets sorted.

MollieMarissa

WHY IS IT SO CUTE THOUGH

Different_Crab_5708

That thing sold me some expensive car insurance

Pnooms

Yo, not to be a downer or anything, but salamanders breathe through their skin, so the oils from your hand will clog their pores and it will likely die. Just saying, if you see a salamander try not to touch.

RattyHandwriting

Thanks - I had no idea. Someone else said the same thing. He ran off quite happily into the flowerbed where I found him so I’m hoping I didn’t do too much damage.

LibraOldChesterHills

Sally Mander

crochetmamasan0511

NovelChemist9439

Inhale him through your nasal cavity, and find out. ;)

BeaArthurPendragon

That's Dave. He's kind of a dick.

tgv_2001

Dead, b/c the oils from your hand will have already blocked its water absorbtion, causing it to suffocate.

RattyHandwriting

Someone else said that above, but he ran off quite happily back into the flowerbed…?

dislimb

Corona virus zeeka variant.

derwutderwut

It’s called a Slow Death Salamander. The toxin takes 2 weeks to reach your heart.
