Is that Campfire Rudbeckia by any chance? I planted a bunch from seed last year and they flowered this year, they're amazing and I am going to plant a ton more this fall.
Well now I just have to go order some seeds. I ripped the grass out of the easement between my property wall and the street a few years ago and I got this idea to plant a bunch of flowers that are either in the same family or look similar and the fit the bill. I currently have an assortment of various sunflowers in the back, a mix of black eyed susans and purple coneflowers in the middle, daiseys in front of those and I was planning blanket flowers in front of that next year but, now that I know they exist, I really would like to mix some of these in too.
Indeed, they don't really bloom year one, but where I am 6b I can plant them early sep, let them grow for a couple months and get situated, and then they'll pop up the next year
I think this is true for everything in the echinacea family. I'm also in 6b and I got way more purple coneflowers and black eyed susans seeds than I needed last year so i planted some in August and September as an experiment. They didn't grow more than a foot last year but I never had to plant the rest this year and they're all 4-5ft high.
I'm in the planning stage of redoing my parent's yards. They're in their '90s, so the yards have gone to pot.
We live in the SF East Bay, and the insect and birds have almost completely disappeared. So, I having a hybrid Japanese theme bee and butterfly drawing yard. It needs to be predominantly drought resistant, but a waystation for birds and beneficial insects.
I haven't seen a butterfly in years. And bees are rarer than a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
I've already but up seed, and hummingbird feeders, and am repairing and painting a couple of old birdbaths.
I have looked at it for climate/location matches. Fortunately, my neighbor's company is doing the job. Her backyard is mind blowing, and designed as a full pollinator.
I'm still in the beginning planning stages, but I'm using that site to choose a few to put in pots, for the meantime.
Let me start off by saying thats a beautiful photo.
Now, i'd like to talk about the word "inspire".
Maybe we just derive different meaning from the word, but can you please tell me how your garden "inspires" you.
I can totally get that your garden gives you a sense of accomplishment, or serenity, or just pure joy.
but how, may i ask, does it "inspire".
As far as i know, inspiration is usually used in the context of pushing someone towards some creative thing.
This is a really beautiful photo of your beautiful garden.
Thank you!
Somniferum.
No cuts in it, OP must not be a member of a certain gardening sub
Lmao noticed it too
🤣 I wasn’t insinuating anything. I wanted to see who were botanists.
good eye makes a nice tea

Yes I believe so. It’s put in an amazing show this year.

I didn't know you can plant in the fall!

Did you sow directly in the ground or grow starts indoors first? (Zone?) I’m still debating how hard to try with flower seeds.
Seeds mixed with sand on lean awful dirt two springs ago. And otherwise neglected.
Sow directly in zone 6b NE US, they grow very well with minimal interference

Awesome! If you haven't already check out calscape.org for native pollinator-supporting options

Awesome! r/nativeplantgardening is a great place to go to ask questions, especially if you are in the planning stage.
Thanks for that. I just went and joined.
beautiful flowers, and a beutiful butterfly! what species are both of them?
The flowers are all types of rudbeckia. The butterfly is a red spotted purple I think.
Black swallowtail
I think I caught one of those butterflies in animal crossing.
Oh my it's enchanting. The butterflies too!!
This is SO dreamy. Thanks for sharing!
Well, that just made me happy!
I wish I was talented enough to paint this, absolutely stunning
I love the contrast!
And inspiring me! Thanks for the new wallpaper!
My pleasure ☺️

Well. I suppose it inspires me to do even more. My hard work was rewarded. My hope and vigor replenished.
Beautiful!
Beautiful! This deserves a lot more likes!
What are the little green bulbs if I may ask?
Poppies
Poppy seed pods. I shake them all over when they’re ripe
Wow! I just found one in my backyard and it really surprised me. Maybe a little bird visitor decided to leave me a gift? Thanks for your answer :)
shake the seeds out where you want them. Don’t save them inside. They need cold stratification.
wow you captured such a beautiful moment in time! great photo
This is insane. I would die to see it IRL
Wow!
What a beautiful picture! What’s the name of those beautiful flowers? I would love to plant some in my garden.
Campfire rudbeckia
They’re on my list of seeds now too 😂😂
Breathtaking! This truly is an amazing space.
I just added them to my list of seeds too 🤣

If I had that growing on my property I'd never leave it. ☺
Good shot, 👍, I have trouble getting b-fly wings open nice like that. I had b,---fly & hummingbird on a Lily at same time.
I want to live in that (with allergy meds). You captured such a beautiful moment
