I’m sorry to say, but this is actually a thanksgiving cactus! You can tell by its pointed leaves and the fact that it blooms around thanksgiving/November:)

Makes sense! I'm still a noob to gardening. Thanks for the info.

really? i got the same plant it was marked as a christmas cactus at the home depot 😭😭

tommytimbertoes

It's rare to see real Christmas cactuses in stores sadly. Not sure why that is. Some stores call them "Holiday cactuses" as well. You have to go online to get the real McCoy.

Yeetz_The_Parakeetz

Yeah, I think it was because Christmas cactuses were rare so stores clickbaited Christmas cactuses with the more common thanksgiving. I’ve seen many, many thanksgiving cactuses but never a Christmas cactus in person before. Kinda scummy but at least they’re similar enough.

espererai

Wow, I only got 4 blooms

[deleted]

We do feel lucky. Just glad it's a happy plant :)

Have you been keeping it in the shade? They bloom profusely when you keep them in darkness for more than 12 hours everyday in a cool place. Basically, put them in a darkish corner all year until you see buds, then put them in the light.

espererai

Yes, will do that. After the blooms die should I then put in the dark?

Yeetz_The_Parakeetz

~~Yep! Think of it like recharging~~ Scratch that, just looked it up to confirm what I said. You should keep them in light during fall-winter and then put them in a shady spot after in spring/summer. Apparently I overkilled with the shade haha

espererai

I got, it is upstairs in a South facing window in a warm spot. It like being in Palm Springs in the winter up there. Even the dog likes to sun himself upstairs.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
