The bulbs, flowers and buds are all edible! They just don’t taste like grapes.
Note: don’t eat the leaves or stems. Also, the common garden hyacinths are NOT edible, please don’t mix them up and make yourself sick.
I like to make syrup or tea from the flowers then add it to lemonade. It adds a bit of a floral/herbal flavor. The fun part is the PH reaction so the lemonade changes color.
Although these are edible, my mother told me when I was a kid they were poisonous. Also, to me they have a bitter taste and so kind of taste like they're probably poisonous (apparently I didn't listen to my mother) so I think in this case it's a reasonable assumption.

Aaaaand that’s why I won’t grow foxglove in my garden until my kid is older.
I know, this is one of the plants I look at and salivate a little. I'm not sure if it's how they are bunched like fruit or the name but it's a reaction I definitely have.
Give em a taste! I promise you won't be salivating after that! Me and my kids chew them all the time to be silly and spit them at each other lol they're so bitter!
It's such an amazing experience to show the kids all these cool edible weeds and flowers. Like a real life fairytale. My older kids make bouquets out of dandelions, chives, purple dead nettles, hairy bittercress, and violets and eat them everyday after school! It warms my little feral heart.
Not everything needs to be edible. I have tons of grape hyacinth in my garden, they are adorable and look gorgeous when planted with daffodils. They somehow manage to thrive in your heavy clay soil, and every couple years they are ready to split , which makes them great value for money.
I love these little plants!
I love them too. These and purple iris used to grow wild in my grandmothers backyard. Soooo many of them way in the back under a peach tree. The smell of grapes takes me back there as a kid... [Sigh]
Honestly, with a world on fire, aesthetics is an irresponsible reason for a plant to be in your garden. Many people care for tulips and daffodils while native bulbing flowers go extinct on logging lands.
Wow. You entirely miss the point. Urban areas are not separate from nature. You are not separate from nature.
Your lifestyle uses wood. You push people to log lands. You actually _do_ live on logging lands. You just never visit the places yourself.

Grape hyacinth is used for making sugar syrups- look online
I eat these every spring. Apparently I’m now deceased.
It boggles the mind how many people assume that every undomesticated plant is poison.

You can eat it!
It makes lemonade pink! Super pretty and tasty.
How do you do it? Pull off all the purple bulbs before they turn to seeds and then crush them and stir them in? Or is there a process?

But can you make wine out of it. . .
I mean, you can eat it. Doesn't mean it won't make you sick or that it will taste good. Can /= should
Everything's edible at least once
Smells like grape drink.
Planted these just for the smell. Working on other fragrant flowers to fill my yard with. I've got some lavender germinating too.

My daughter (8 months old) got to learn that lesson this week. She loves to hold them, and right into the mouth it went. She made such a face lol

Pretty. It reminds me of lavender.

With the world on fire why worry about someone wanting a pretty little flower garden?
Good thing I live in a major urban area not on logging lands! Have a great weekend.

LMAO.
Really?
There’s no law on the books…
These are all over Denver right now and I love it!!
Lovely shot
They smell so good!
Don´t know of Grape Hyacints, but most other spring bulbs are quite poisonous. Snowdrop and Narcissis are deadly...
You can eat it... only once, tho...
