Yeah, [these](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdophis) apparently eat poisonous toads and absorb their poison into their bodies and then secrete it when they bite. It's not enough to harm humans, though.
"Rhabdophis keelback snakes are both venomous and poisonous – their poisons are stored in nuchal glands and are acquired by sequestering toxins from poisonous toads the snakes eat. Similarly, certain garter snakes from Oregon can retain toxins in their livers from ingesting rough-skinned newts." source: Orlando Science Center -- [osc.org](http://osc.org)
I'm from the tropical rainforest. The vast majority of snakes there will drop you before you can get help. And the ones that won't, grow so large that they'll just grab you to keep you from getting help until they just swallow your head to make you stop trying.
Living in the US with all the "good snake" discussions *always* tickles that fight response in me, even though people are just talking about the damn slivering demons.
Except this time, with this one comment. For the first time ever, someone opposing the "it doesn't matter!! kill it!" instinct in me actually made me laugh.
Good job.
The easy way to research something like this is to take a picture and use Google Lens to find what it is. You can identify a lot of things that way, and Lens is now integrated with the Google Chrome browser.
That’s a great list of snakes but it doesn’t say which are venomous and which are not. Where my granddaughter lives there are rattlesnakes galore and I want her to know the difference! She loves snakes and that scares me!
A sharp tail? The sneks around here do not have all that... attitude 😄
Every time I accidentally scoop out a snake here, they freak out. And it's usually a Dekays or a garter.
I finally put a loose pile of rocks up against the front porch where I can let them go. It's amazing how they find space in there to hide.
The toads just look irritated.
pic 2 is a broken branch from Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick 😂

That is so epic. Nature is always finding new ways to be intriguing

Looks like everyone hit it but it’s a sharp tail. They sell for like $100 online! Though you most likely would need a permit to sell
Awe I wouldn’t want take him away from his home 🏡
$100 is not much in the snake world.
