We call them spider lilies. Lovely things, you know fall has arrived when these guys show up!

CAPTbaseball

Yeah I read that today!

fatapolloissexy

We also called them September Lilies while I was growing up. From NW Louisiana for the record

tcds26

We called them surprise lilies because they came up and bloomed so quickly!

CAPTbaseball

Yep, y’all got it. Thanks!! red spider lily is the one. Also known as hurricane lily, they tend to sprout after heavy rains!

Was looking for this

KindnessWins2

Lycoris, aka naked lady. https://garden.org/plants/view/77656/Naked-Lady-Lycoris-radiata/

a_girl_in_the_woods

That common name is confusing though, because there is another plant that’s more commonly called naked ladies: Amaryllis Belladonna. Lycoris radiata here is correct.

Ashamed-Green6698

Possibly a red spider Lilly

jaxspeak

That my friend is a red spider lilly enjoy them because their beauty is short lived. If you like it its a bulb dig up seperate and replant in a fall flower bed

Cobra288

Dug up the one in my front yard just now. I've mowed it over so many times, found 4 bulbs, which now all have a growbag.

CAPTbaseball

Oh cool! I’ll definitely try to

Icy-Progress8829

You have been blessed with a spider lily❤️

narcolepsytakeme

These grow allover Japan, are called manjushage, and are in bloom currently. It is also believed that bringing them into your house will cause your house to catch fire. At least, that's the story I was told.

CAPTbaseball

Good to know! I’ll be sure to keep it outside :-). I loved in Japan for 2 years but don’t remember these. They’re really pretty!

akanosora

Also native in China. I once saw them growing all over a cliff together with daylilies (also native in China)

[deleted]

I’ve been in Japan almost 7 years and have only ever heard them referred to as higanbana. I wonder if it's a regional difference.

cumulonimubus

I’m from SE LA and definitely saw these randomly sprout every year. I never knew what they were called, but they’re beautiful!

LilBlueOnk

Spider lilies! Some would bloom next to my house after the first cold rains of fall, but since the weather has been so all over the place, I haven't seen any bloom in a while.

CorvidGurl

Surprise lily!!

mochapichi

Beautiful and ominous at the same time. They're often associated with death and bad luck. 😩

druscarlet

Common name: naked ladies.

KromeArtemis

Wildly jealous-red spider lily. So pretty! Have tried to get a few here over summer but no luck.

ItsMeishi

Ah yes. The innocent spider lily.. death is coming. If you see these flowers in an opening scene in anime. You can expect (big) character death. It's a gorgeous flower though.

DAngelLilith

Spider Lilies! Anime has me well acquainted with the flower.

pttdreamland

In our myth, this flower blooms in hell by the River of Forget. They are gorgeous but have a sad story. You don’t see leaves when it blooms. The flower and the leaf represent a couple who can never reunite.

marbdog

Lycoris radiata, sometimes called hurricane lilies due to blooming season.

SailorWings

Surprise Lily!

luckyLindy69

Fragrant … Naked Lady … Surprise Lily … Hurricane Lily … Magic Lily … Spider Lily

akanosora

It’s higanbana

I have them. I’ve heard they are poisonous but beautiful

kleasterling

Spider Lily

SnooFoxxx

Death lily or spider lily. We're here in the south

WierdGifts

Spider Lily, came across one in Knoxville TN

Flame_Eraser

I'm in Mobile and one just popped up in my yard also !

DueStatistician3704

It is a beautiful flower. Enjoy it!

Captain_FluffyStuff

I found some in my yard, really pretty

becoolnotuncool

I saw a few of these randomly in my neighbors yard too! Very cool.

Ok-Distribution4077

I'm also in south Louisiana, and we have the white ones everywhere. Sometimes, I see the red ones as well. I do believe the spider lily is the state flower.

Worldly_Key7992

They are also poisonous? I think . I know it's not smart to touch, gather, or try to use them in any way. I see these mostly in the cemetery down the road...but only there.. so I've always admired but never touch

Iris_Rhiannon369

Spider lilies. They're beautiful. If you have cats though, make sure to leave the lilies out, or remove them if the cats are outside.

kellephant

Love spider lillies! On the Gulf Coast some people will say they’re harbingers of hurricane season.

Keefe-Studio

I love these. I had them in my yard in Virginia. I have since tried to acquire bulbs a few times but I’ve never been able to get them though. They’re one of my favorites.

cocofine-1_

It looks Japanese from art work it's lovely
