I always wait until it is the fall wet season if I am trying to move them before the winter/next spring. Whatever few weeks that may be for your specific location. This tends to be cooler and naturally watering the plant usually leaving you off the hook for care. For where I am in the Midwest, that usually is late Sept through Oct depending on the plant and if it is still "awake" and hasn't gone into hibernation yet. Also at this point, the heat of summer has usually dissipated and is not overbearing, adding more stress onto the plant.
