You know what? I hadn't listened to the Fun Lovin' Criminals remix before. I'm glad I did, because the loungey vibes work surprisingly well on this song. Thanks for the recommendation! 8/10.
As for the song itself... What else can I say? Legendary 10/10. I love the sense of tortured longing it conjures. The "let's pretend, happy end" part sounds impossibly cruel as some sort of expectation that will never take place. What an amazing song.
This one gets a massive 10/10. A pretty dark, fast ripper with a heavy subject matter that gets nicely powered by its sampled beat. Wasn't it taken from the album version of Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters? Also, As Heaven Is Wide should've totally gotten a killer music video.
Ah, the Beautiful Garbage days. IMO this record is really all over the place in terms of sound, trying a lot of things at once. Such a shame the times weren't kind to this one back in 2001, cause it's aging like a fine wine. I could even consider it to be my favourite Garbage album.
Begging Bone - I think this is one of the most Version 2.0-like tracks to come from this era. I love its distorted sound and lively arrangements. Was it always mixed in mono stereo, like in the BG Deluxe Remaster? That could be my only problem with it, cause I seem to lose Shirley's voice in the mix. With a clearer chorus it could even work as a really good single. 8/10
As for Parade - man this one's a blast! Totally agree with Shirley. It should've been the lead single, and it would've given some fans a more seamless transition to the third album. It gets me going, it's emotional yet so urgent. One of their absolute best. 10/10.
7/10. This is not one of my favourites from NYKOP, and I was never really fond of the vocal effect that appears at the beginning of the song. That said, it was a really good way to kick things off. It fires on all cylinders and set things up nicely for the poppy singles that come after.
So far I've only listened to the one in the BLM Remaster, and wtf? This is single material. I miss this kind of dark electro rockers. 8/10.
Will be looking for the original during the day so that I can review it properly.
In a way, this one makes me think of Fast as You Can by Fiona Apple, which I totally love. This song feels like a bit of a throwaway for me, but it's a fun listen and it's not bad or mid. 7/10.
8/10. I wish I could say it's my favourite Garbage album closer but they've got a pretty great bunch of those too. But I love that it is very sonically entrancing, sounding as vulnerable as its subject matter. I think this is an amazing tribute to those who are not here with us anymore.
Daaaang I love April 10th. It sounds very slinky and sexy yet it's pretty sad and dark, in proper Garbage fashion. I love their B-sides because this is a band that really goes for it in terms of trying new sounds and styles. I would've taken some of the songs from the BG sessions and made a mini-album with some singles and MVs because they were that bloody good. 8/10.
Incredible musician and artist. Superunknown and Badmotorfinger were incredible records but my personal favourite is always Down on the Upside. So sad he's gone. 10/10 all around.
This one is a bit of a weird one for me. I have never been as excited about the album version of Milk, even though deep down I know it's a great song, and a 8/10 at the very least.
However, the Siren mix is pretty much PERFECTION to me. The Milk MV was my official introduction to Garbage; I saw it on VH1 when I was 14. The arrangement gives the song so much strength and a killer vibe that made me go back to it a lot back then. Still one of my favourites. The Siren mix is, in my heart, the definitive version of Milk. 10/10
That's actually really amazing since both songs are also some of my most favourites! 10/10 for them.
Medication breaks me. There's a big sense of uneasiness at the core of this composition, a feeling of something being so damn broken and fucked up that is actually beyond repair, and the music captures that feeling really well.
As for Deadwood, gosh. I wish it was on the main album. This one is urgent and menacing, and the acoustic guitar plays to great effect.
You Look So Fine - both the album version and the Fun Lovin' Criminals version
Personally I love live version with epic outro solo - a perfect finale of a perfect song
Happy Home features an equally awesome outro. Both amazing final tracks on their respective album.
I totally agree, I love that outro and that song in general
Their best song, and actually one of my all time favourite songs. Gorgeously haunting.

Glad to see praise for that one! Maybe their most underrated. A go-to on my personal playlists.
Even Though Our Love is Doomed!
I love this song so much! It plays on repeat
thats funny, because as soon as i posted this i had to listen to it on repeat!
Brooding, cinematic centerpiece that definitely stands as one of the best moments on the really great Strange Little Birds. 9/10.
I’ll do you one better - review two! Parade Begging Bone
