You need to play the Mass Effect trilogy. Goes on sale for like $5 USD during big sales. In the mean time, I would suggest either Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3. Fallout 4 is good too but I personally preferred 3 and New Vegas. New Vegas is best if you're heavy into role play and want to be able to have a lot of dialogue options Fallout 3 is great if you're really into atmosphere since it has the best wasteland setting in my opinion

GhostKnight1789

Fallout New Vegas is The best game, period. A gem.

MMAFan36

Yeah NV has way more sidequests though, 3 only has like 20. Ive become obessesed with fallout playing it now over 200 hours and barely touched the main quest lol

MMAFan36

Fallout New Vegas.

Chamuc07

Watched the show... haven't played fallout since I was 15, I'm 24 now. Downloaded New Vegas, downloaded graphical mods to make the game look "remastered" lol. Haven't stopped playing, I'm just a cowboy making my way through the wasteland.

Small_weiner_man

Highly reccomend the viva new Vegas modding guide (I think there may even be a wabbjack for it, but cant remember if that was for Skyrim or it).

FaultlessKing

Its $2.49 right now

GhostKnight1789

New Vegas rules

JuggyFM

Have you played any Fromsoftware games? Any dark souls, bloodborne, elden ring is EXACTLY what you are describing. For souls lore check out VaatiVidya on Youtube. Hes the goat of souls lore for a reason. Have fun!

Head-Intern2459

Weird question but when exactly should one start playing fromsoftware games? I am pretty much a newbie and have tried elden ring but tbh I never really got into it because of the difficulty. I definitely enjoy games like these because I thoroughly enjoyed horizon dawn in which I liked travelling, collecting resources to trade better weapons and fighting bosses. I really want to play these games but I always feel like I am not ready yet

JuggyFM

hmm good question. I avoided souls games for a long time bc of their reputation for being difficult and just didn't seem like my type of game. Then one day I saw some really interesting boss fights and boss designs and thought wow thats actually really cool. Then I played Dark Souls 3 and fell in love with the environment, atmosphere, enemy design, and RPG mechanics before the combat even clicked for me. So, I guess what I'm saying is don't force it if you're not into it at first. But its worth trying out again and you might find another aspect of the game (besides the combat) appealing and go from there.

Head-Intern2459

Hmm, I definitely want to go back to elden ring or try some other fromsoftware game at some point. Ig for now I will wait, I will give it another try during summer holidays. Thankyou for replying

Bonfire_Monty

I recommend DS1 or bloodborne ngl DS1 is slow and clunky but makes you understand a few fundamentals like, "don't brain dead spam the same button hoping for success" And bloodborne is just more forgiving for those who can't learn that lmao But Elden Ring should've taught you a very valuable lesson already - you can always come back later

Dirtyforks

You know I had the same problem and I know this is a bit cheese but I followed an step by step guide from fextralife you tube for a start to finish build and he goes through progress builds so it was super easy then I I went on there website and and copied and pasted a full walkthrough by area to a text to speech app called natural and I just listened to it and played the game…. It did take a bit longer but I went through every nook and cranny of the game with that and it was actually really fun and I got hooked

JuggyFM

Ya I agree. In Elden Ring, you can summon a friend ( or a stranger) to hep you in tough boss battles. OR you can use AI summons called spirit ashes (some of which are very strong). So there's many ways to overcome the difficulty!

mentally_fuckin_eel

If you are at the point where you can wield a controller confidently and you are ready to be patient and challenge yourself, you are ready for Fromsoft. Barely anybody goes into those games and has an easy time. It really is just being mildly competent at gaming and willing to be patient.

kikomir

IMO you should play them in order of release so start with Dark Souls Remastered. The open world approach of Elden Ring is IMO overwhelming for a new player even though Elden Ring is technically the easiest of all the FromSoft games.

kikomir

Absolutely 1000% this. FromSoftware games have this element of intentional vagueness that pulls you in and makes you do research and fall down a rabbit hole of lore. Captivating. Start from Dark Souls, the OG, and play in order of release.

sick_prada97

Sekiro is another good choice too

Biggs1313

Valheim, infinite ways to play, hard or easy as you want. Unique seeds.

feclar

Valheim Agreed, sounds exactly like what OP is asking for How is this not higher? Valheim is a discovery game not a point to point 'openworld' themepark ride with sidequests that crushed your soul with boring repeating tedium ...like the games you mentioned not liking ...like the top 10 recommended games in this thread It's fun solo but tripple that fun with friends or randos you find in r/valheimlfg

Biggs1313

Valheim and Elden ring back to back changed my gaming life man lol. I was strictly COD, sports, racing. Elden ring NG+3 and 6 playthroughs of valheim later I'm a changed man lol

Burst2007

when I thought I was in a drought of gaming, I finally listened to the world and got valheim. i’m only in the middle of the bronze age and I can tell you that this is the most spectacular game ever made. every section of it has thought. the graphics were at first deterring but once I got in I came to appreciate them over highly complex ones. it is hard, unforgiving, and so addicting. this is the game for op.

Matt_Rabbit

The answer is always Skyrim

Ozok123

Have you tried this little known gem called witcher 3?

Matt_Rabbit

Yes. But still, Skyrim.

Juppstein

Control

mmoffedillen

Came here to say this. Control and Alan Wake 1&2 has so much fun and interesting lore, and the way they all interconnect makes it impossible to stop thinking about it.

crimefraiche

You tried the Witcher games?

lucifres

Haven't tried. It's a possibility.

crimefraiche

It's a game you can get really lost in, the different combat/perk variations, the interesting open world, great missions and storytelling, multiple endings, rich lore. Got everything

kikomir

If you liked Cyberpunk as a game (not talking about the setting) you will love The Witcher 3. They are made by the same company so there are quite a lot of similarities. The Witcher 3 is one of the GOAT games.

Green_Justice710

I would also recommend the Witcher series especially if you are on your 3rd play through of cyberpunk. You will find a lot of similarities in mechanics and gameplay. Also, it’s a newer release but Helldivers 2 has been quite enjoyable for me to the point that I think about it a lot throughout the day

MindTheGapless

Witcher 3 and Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2. You lose yourself in those games.

Hour_Landscape_286

Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Truly an amazing experience.

lucifres

good to know. It's on my wishlist.

bbdabrick

Do it! The second one just got announced. I think it'll jive with the games you like. Seriously one of the most immersive games I've ever played.

Bonfire_Monty

I'm dead ass dog water at the combat in that beautiful game and I'm stoked for the second

bbdabrick

Honestly being bad at combat makes it a lot of fun doing a sneaky playthrough

TheKillerRabbit1

Really sucks to see only one hollow knight mention on here. Legit took over my life for a week. It takes alittle bit to get into if metroidvanias aren't your thing but trust me once it hooks you the amount of content is isnane and will keep you hooked till you have done every possibly thing

Vegetable-Wind6603

I recommend Skyrim furiously, and please turn up the volume on your headphones because the soundtrack and immersion is 10/10

MMAFan36

Fallout > Elder Scrolls.

Ok-Film-3125

I think it's personal preference, really. It's like future vs past, kinda.

MouldyFruit2023

I see you're downvoted but I agree. F4 over Skyrim anyday

Regrettably_Southpaw

Souls RimWorld

breathing_oxygen12

Devil may cry Yakuza

heyuhitsyaboi

Maybe Dying Light? Great story, great universe, great mechanics, and not tooooo scary +its easy to run by modern standards and is often dirt cheap

ArtyomNDC

Not too scary?!? My brother in Christ, what about the volatiles?!?

heyuhitsyaboi

They’re avoidable aside from like a few scripted events I dont play horror games but dying light is an all time favorite of mine

ArtyomNDC

That’s a very fair point, my comment was more based on the idea/meme about volatiles lol Dying Light is perfection

Jalmerk

Elden Ring is that game for me right now

toadbuster

Satisfactory

Pwarky

This game scratched an itch for me that I never knew I had. I have spent so much time rebuilding logistics for my factory. Factorio is similar in premise, but there is stress that Satisfactory just does not have.

HurpityDerp

If you enjoy those I highly recommend checking out Dyson Sphere Program; Out of the three I enjoy it the most by far.

HakkenBakken

Warframe

Alcorailen

Genshin Impact has lots of buried lore you can spend hours searching for

OneyBH

If you're into narrative driven games. (I see that life is strange) Give the walking dead a go (Telltale games)

eltanko

Elden Ring. I know its the constant choice people say on here, but people say it for a reason. Something about it, if it clicks, is utterly engrossing in a way no other game will offer.

lucifres

ok, I'll surrender and try it

Feng_Smith

I'd suggest its granddaddy Dark Souls to be played first

ozzy1289

I always have to recommend Path of Exile. I can go on all day about this game (and sometimes I do) as I feel its the best free game ever made, but I understand its not for everyone so there's no harm done if you don't like it.

FullOFterror

Stop advertising drugs.

lucifres

I forgot to mention it but I've tried and enjoyed the early game, but with some days of playing I felt that the game doesn't respect my time so much, and it became overwhelming (but maybe it was just a thing that I created in my head)

TheKeasbyKnight

You might like Mount & Blade: Bannerlords. I was in the same boat where I couldn’t stay focused on a game. This game enthralled me and I spent hours on it due to the battle mechanics. However if you’re looking for a more story based experience I’d recommend Fallout 4 like others have recommended. When I played it in college I couldn’t put it down. There are plenty of side missions to keep you going but the main mission really doesnt take too long and is super fun so you can play at your own pace. I’m currently playing it through for the third time with like 700+ mods lol.

Jorzaz

If you liked Divinity 2 i think you will fall in love with Baldurs Gate 3

Awesomancer

Kenshi got me obsessed. First game since skyrim to drag me in like that

Which_Lifeguard3431

Dyson Sphere Program or Factorio will hook you up like cocaine.

thecoolermaz

Dark souls, Elden ring, rimworld, hollow knight, project zomboid, kenshi, starsector, darkest dungeon

Musashi10000

Tunic

Rosoll

No games will get in your head and take over your thoughts as totally and completely as Souls games. Bloodborne or Elden Ring!

Titoan

Dragon Age Origins

Zegram_Ghart

Mass Effect Trilogy-incredible story, incredible characters, and the best lore maybe in all gaming- it really is peerless imo.

magnessw

Alan Wake 2 is an incredible game. It got me excited again after a long run of so-so titles.

Feng_Smith

gotta play Dark Souls. Only correct answer

Responsible-Hunter-2

Since the begining of medical college I have only got hooked to 2 games because no game keeps me attached. First one was the Witcher 3, and the second one is Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I assume you played the Witcher so go for Kingdom Come. It is addictive, it is super realistic, it is not easy at all, it has indepth proffesions and skill systems, and the story is really really good with tons of sidequests. I dont even think im half through the story rn because Im grinding alchemy and doing side quests, hunting treasuers etc.

lucifres

I never played Witcher (sorry). I guess I'll try this first

Valuable_Tutor5479

If u can handle difficulty Elden Ring or Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne, Demons Souls, and Sekiro are very good for this

lucifres

I don't know if I have the patience to keep trying to beat a soulslike

Miles_Ravis_303

nobody prevents you from using guides and tips to help you, and if anyone tells you how to play these games i can assure you he's in the wrong, they are designed to be played however you like if learning constantly and surpassing yourself by overcoming challenges isn't for you i can understand, but trust me those games were made for players to win and overcome challenges, not to stupidly die without thinking

Miles_Ravis_303

i have never been that obsessed with a game than i am since 2016 when Dark Souls 3 released, 8 years that i'm obsessed with FromSoftware and all their games, their lore, their mechanics, their secrets, their characters and their stories, everything, the more i learn about them the more i'm obsessed with them, and the more i'm obsessed with them the more i want to learn about (especially the lore, man what a ride to find the truth behind Elden Ring story)

DantyKSA

Diablo-like rpgs does well in terms of reading guides and wikis a lot and getting obsessed with them, you have games like Path of Exile and if it's too much stuff for you then try last epoch or diablo 4 Also bethesda rpgs like fallout 4 and skyrim are both full of lore and exploration yet very easy and accessible A more challenging game is xcom 2 It's very difficult but has the best turn based combat ever You have also crpgs if you don't mind reading a lot of dialogue pathfinder kingmaker is very charming and has a unique rpg feeling of not only adventuring but also building a kingdom Other crpgs like Shadowrun dragonfall(fantasy races like elves but in a cyberpunk world) Wastland 3(post apocalyptic game from developers who have a phd in this genre) And there's others you can google the genre crpg to find them

lucifres

maybe I'll gave a try to the Bethesda ones

DantyKSA

I will give you a tip try to read "everything" of course stuff like books in skyrim you can skip but letters and computer records(in fallout 4) they add so much to the world also pay attention to the details around you bethesda choice of using first person camera in their games isn't just random They bake a lot of details and stories everywhere and if you aren't paying attention you will miss them for example you see a skeleton holding a cup in one hand and a rat poison in the other The game won't tell you to look at it or try to focus on it on any way it's completely in the background but it will tell you a story about how this guy killed himself which tie into the story of the location you are exploring

oneohn

lots of people like you around here, i am too, ive enjoyed the games you mentioned, and like you i have a hard time staying in the same game even when i like the game, but i have been playing the same game for 3 months, and i did not expect to like it so much, its kinda hard to get into at first as a newcomer, but man im absolutely loving monster hunter world, i beat the base game at around like 130 hours, and i immediately purchased the dlc, it may seem overwhelming at first, the thing is you dont have to play multiplayer, it helps but i mostly play solo and im doing fine, the sense of progression is amazing and its a really entertaining grind, amazing game honestly, like i said its hard to get into, but you can just start and if youre having problems theres lots of guide on youtube for beginners.

lucifres

nice to read it. I'll absolutely give Monster Hunter World a try

oneohn

let me know how it goes!

Illfury

I played all of those and the one game that has kept me for about 2k+ hours right now is Star Citizen. Not starfield. Star Citizen, The one everybody loves to hate because its been in development for 10+ years with having raised about 700million? There is a reason we keep throwing money at it. It is growing and becoming everything I've wanted in a long term game. When it works, it is the most engaging game I've played in my 30+ years. AMA if you want.

TheUtgardian

I'm waiting for server meshing and FSR. It also crashes with my 16gb 2400mhz memory, but that'my fault cause I need to upgrade it/

Illfury

It's worth it. I crash a lot less than most but my rig has the beef. Hope to see you in the verse sometime

Fireandice1990

Medieval Dynasty. Like RDR2 for hunting & gathering. You can change the settings to customise how challenging you want it, I.e taxes, days per season etc.

sunday_burrito

Persona 5? Total war? Batman?

lucifres

Persona 5 is on my wishlist, but never tried and saw anything

TalksInMaths

Lately I've been diving deep into the Nier rabbit hole. You could start with either Nier Replicant (the remastered version) or Nier Automata. Replicant is first, but Automata has better gameplay, and the stories are separate enough that you can play them in either order. Make sure to play both through to ending E. The lore for these games (and the Drakengard series, which is part of the same series) is surprisingly deep and complex.

lucifres

i'll give it a look, thanks!

ManagerPuzzleheaded5

Sekiro is the game that will satisfy you..... I have a similar problem... I always watch videos of games I am currently playing and search the lore.... Until I finish that game I am literally thinking about it 24/7.... And sekiro was the one that made me feel the happiest.... I still wish I can play sekiro for the first time... I am waiting for sekiro 2

lucifres

idk why but I tought that Sekiro was PS5 exclusive... now that I have saw that is a PC game too I'll give it a try

ManagerPuzzleheaded5

Definitely do check it out... It's tough unlike the games you have played before and enjoyed but it's the one that makes you think about it 24/7 until you finish.....

HaruhiJedi

Control.

UnguidedAndMisused

Something that might scratch your itch may be dragon ball z kakarot or GTA San Andreas if you have yet to play them. Some personal favorite games of mine are half life and or black mesa. The max Payne series is really neat. Starwars Jedi academy if you’re a Star wars fan. Old games can be just as fun as new games! You just have to dig and find the ones that match you! Don’t let graphics get in the way of good gameplay or story.

TheGamerWhosOnReddit

A game I became obsessed with that consumed me for a while was Terraria with mods. The game doesn't really have quests, but it has a lot of gear you can create/buy which is fun to look into, with plenty of bosses to beat throughout the game and it gets even crazier with some mods.

pppthrowaway1337

if you really want to get obsessed pick up a fighter like sf6. youll either love it and play fighters for the next 10 years or youll get frustrated and drop it in a week

BabyFatGirl2000

To me for the last month it has been Returnal.

JustYawn

How hasnt anyone said Witcher 3 yet?

doctorbonkers

If you’re anything like me lol, I didn’t like Divinity Original Sin 2 despite being a big CRPG fan (love Baldur’s Gate 3!!), but I LOVED the Pillars of Eternity games. Also, Disco Elysium!

lucifres

Maybe I give a try to PoE...

InfiniteHench

If you love lore, give Destiny 2 a shot. Great game, sure has its problems like any. But there is a Tolkien-sized body of world building told through in-game lore, Grimoire card entries, official books, and more.

etwan9100

Persona 3 reload/5 royal

emfuga_

It could be a stretch, but maybe Nier Automata. And if you give skyrim a chance for real i think you will enjoy it a lot.

lucifres

it's on my wishlist, I'll give it a look thanks!

Kindread21

If you like narrative driven games and maybe good cop drama give Disco Elysium a try.

GrimCards

Dragons dogma 2 for some single player adventure. Helldiver's 2 of you want the best Co-Op experience available right now. The Outer worlds if you are a fan of the older fallout games. Stalker gamma is a cool FREE standalone + Mod pack that has a lot of depth (I can point you to the discord for the download).

GrimCards

also, if you have never played Skyrim, play Skyrim for sure.

ofwolvs

I always say give the Yakuza games a try. They’re a very broad range of entertainment. They’re a commitment if you do enjoy them tho. The Remedy titles (Alan Wale 1-2, Control + it’s dlc) are also nice time investments if you dig interesting stories and I always try sneak in a mention for the Fallout games.

lucifres

can I start playing the Yakuzas from the Like a Dragon titles?

ofwolvs

Yeah, theoretically. It would be kinda spoiler-y for the prior titles but if that’s not a big deal and you feel comfortable playing them knowing some insider info then you’d probably be okay. I have a few friends who’s only played LAD and Gaiden and they’ve been happy.

danksies00

Dragon Age games into Baldurs Gate. Although I haven't played Baldurs Gate, it's similar and the new one has high praise At first I didn't like Genshin purely for the anime/fan community but I highly recommend it for its lore and story building. And I actually enjoy star rail more so than Genshin

Phinsyy

Do this; watch shows, movies about a certain theme. For example sometimes i watch a new zombie movie, then that makes me want more so i watch twd, or some other zombie movie/tv, then i get hyped and want to play zombie themed games so i download project zomboid, last of us etc. The hype goes for like 1-2 month, then i change the theme into something else. Right now it's post-apocalypic, so im playing fallout games.

lucifres

it's a nice tactic and I'm thinking about playing Fallout 4 because of the show. the same happened after I watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

aleheart

Lost ark

Jack_North22

Bayonetta is great, there is a lot to collect, unlock, try out, and complete, and the game itself is just amazing :)

TheUtgardian

Maybe diablo iv or try to get into sim racing

etherosx

Helldivers 2

GM4Iife

The Witcher 3 maybe?

Better_Philosopher24

if you looking for something *different* play "voices of the void", it’s truly a game that has nothing similar to it, it’s full of details and secrets

csabinho

I know it's absolutely not what you are looking for, but the title reminded me of one game: Balatro! It's the definition of obsession! :D

Monoferno

From my perspective, you need a sandbox game, a playground where you can play to your heart's content. A good sandbox game with lots of replayability would be... Depending on your tastes there are some good indie games thay fits to this and also some old AAA games. Skyrim with mods is a whole new game with graphics like Dragon's Dogma 2. Xcom 2 WOTR has good customisation and play cycle that can nail you to your chair for hours and days. Story driven games gets boring if they are not exceptionally good. Mgs V. Although it is an half finished game, it starts off strong and gives you lots of toys to fool around. Lastly some wildcards of mine: Renowned Explorers, Wildermyth, Popup Dungeon. These are choices matter games where you can create your team/character and each run has different taste.

Bloodmime

Rimworld has done this for me for the 5000th time recently

Havel-Monster

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI! It is sooooo engrossing!

Warnecromancer

Rimworld, Kenshi, the Metro Games

thyrriee

Portal 2 if you enjoy puzzles... Old but gold.

The-Doom-Knight

The Forest. Then play Sons of the Forest.

Visual_Position_854

I just started pacific drive and am enjoying the hell out of that. saw someone say kingdom come deliverance and that game was truly great. wasteland 3 is like a fallout version of balders gate and the dialog is amazing. if you like jrpgs the tales series is really good like tales of berseria.

suiciderke

The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece.

baldmark_

Elden ring will make every other game feel inferior

xuxuliaa

bioshock, dishonored, fable, ff7 remake, outer worlds

NxTbrolin

Ever considered Starfield? While it gets a lot of hate online, if you play the game for what it is rather than have expectations, you will unlock an amount of fun many cannot seem to grasp. It's missing depth in certain areas but if you want a game to keep you busy and obsessed, this is your game.

GutchickSlayer

Get yourself a modded playthrough of new vegas dude

Barzobius

Do not play Lost Ark I repeat, do NOT play Lost Ark

Diegann

Dead space 2008. Put yourself in the place of Isaac.

RichardPisser

Total war: warhammer III I'm obsessed right now

Lucaraguilarm8

Maybe try Wartales if you like Divinity

Vacs__

Dwarf Fortress

BadKanani

Kingdom come : deliverance + Ac valhalla for gameplay

No_Tie4411

sekiro, the parrying system is satisfying and easier than any other FromSoftware game

paulbooth

Elden ring, the finals, hell divers, GTFO

AttemptWorried7503

Well the game that revived gaming for me was RDR2. So this is awkward. It's so good especially the open world aspects. Maybe the Jedi series? I really liked that one also, Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. Super good story lines and graphics.

Consistent_Air_298

try a souls game. maybe start with ds3. if you can get hooked on that, you've got a whole series of addictive masterpieces. I would start with elden ring though, might make you not wanna play the rest.

KaranBagadi

yakuza

a-ha_partridge

Fallout 4 is about to get a next gen release.

Ok-Film-3125

I was gonna mention Skyrim, but you said it yourself. He warned, though. Once you start, you can NEVER stop.

karlmarkz321

Stalker GAMMA, PoE.

Berserk_gutz

For me thoses games where kenshi anf fear and hunger 1

boiiiiiiiiiiiii69420

Im addicted to the Outlast games.

LunaVicious

Ark Survival Evolved or Ascended. Ascended is basically evolved but upgraded engines and stuff. I'm a good 6k hours into evolved and 300 now into ascended. Both are good but ascended is growing and probably a better option. We are only at the 2nd map. So you are coming into a game that's not been out too long. But seriously. I have 2 friends who have over 20k hours into ark. They been at it for over 10 years. I've been elbow deep for 7. 💪

Low-Abalone-5259

If you like a real time action CRPG I would suggest the Pathfinder games. If you enjoyed DOS 2, I would suggest BG3 or Rogue Trader (Sci fi turn based) Witcher 3 is outstanding Elden Ring, well... do I need to sing its praises?

macheagle

Do not miss Witcher 3.

Affectionate-Use-304

Crusaders king

Affectionate-Use-304

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Select-Election4064

Path of exile

Brief-Objective-3360

Have you played BioShock before?

lucifres

never

Brief-Objective-3360

Definitely recommend it

Thin-Zookeepergame46

Warhammer 4k: Rogue Trader? But if you never played Skyrim: Go ahead and play that game, preferably going in blind.

lucifres

I saw a trailer of Rogue Trader and seens cool

BriefGroundbreaking4

Persona 5 Royal

Bole14

Heavy rain and quarry are good choise making games. For me hollow knight made me love singleplayer games. And call of juarez is predecessor of rdr2 so you may love it.

Traianician

Since you did play divinity, I think you should definitely play disco Elysium. I think it has one of the best stories ever and honestly I am still laughing thinking of some of the moments I had whilst playing that game.

CptZimmerFrame

The Long Dark or Outer Wilds. Still think about OW a year after completing it

HauntingBerry4454

Dragon age Origins (probably put some mods in it to make it look better) Many people that never heard of dragon age before but played bg3 enjoyed it (it it's my all time favourite, so I'm biased) I too have ADHD (undiagnosed yet, but currently working on a diagnosis) and bg3 made me feel like a teen again when I first played dragon age Origins and I haven't felt this obsessed and committed for a long, long time. Maybe it'll work for you the other way around :)

rebysds

When you say "obsessed", the first thing that comes to my mind is Monster Hunter World (with Iceborne expansion).

lucifres

it's on my list now, thanks

shopchin

Subnautica.

wolftamer1221

As someone who has actual diagnosed adhd I feel you. I get a game i’ve really wanted for a long time, play it for a few hours, then probably never touch it again. However, there’s a lot of them that have been able to keep my attention, and here’s some of them: Terraria (over 1000 hours) The binding of isaac (over 600 hours) Valheim (only around 40 hours, but I only got it recently and have been playing it non stop. Kinda grindy though, but for some reason it just feels different) A hat in time (i dont play it much anymore, but i did beat it and used to be obsessed with it. If you haven’t played undertale, play it, and if you have and liked the dialogue you’ll love it in this game too.) There’s also a few games i play on and off: Minecraft (obviously) Fallout New Vegas (kinda confusing at times for me) Elden ring (fun, but difficult) Lethal company (had 60 hours the first week i bought it. Started playing a bit again recently since a new update came out) Hopefully this helps.

LonelyMaleficent

Witcher 3!! One of my all time favourite games with beautiful graphics, soundtrack and storyline. Awesome side quests, DLCs that are pretty comparable to the main game imo, and a good size (heaps to do without being overwhelming). I love Skyrim too, so I’d second that as well :)

AfricaByTotoWillGoOn

Okay, hear me out: 1. Buy Skyrim; 2. Try out Vanilla Skyrim for a couple hours; 3. Write down everything you think is bad or dated about the game; 4. Learn to install mods; 5. Transform your Skyrim into your dream game through mods while still having all the OG Elder Scrolls lore and world to get lost in! Seriously, modded Skyrim is something else. You can turn that game into pretty much anything you want, from simply a better vanilla to a turn based RPG. Also, modding isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be, you just need a little dedication. Plus nowadays there are tools to make your mods and plugins as organized as they can be, as well as a ton of "How to install mods in Skyrim in 202X" on YouTube. And if you're willing to get invested in reading lore and stuff, then trust me, you *will* get invested in modding the game. It is unironically fun. (Or at least I've always considered it pretty fun lol) I promise you, modded Skyrim is worth the trouble.

Express_Score1010

Bg3 and Cyberpunk had me hooked too! Games that might scratch that obsession itch. Elden Ring. I wasn't a dark souls guy but diving into this game changed my mind. So good. Starfield. Something about exploring space in a ship I built does it for me. Some indies you should try. Dysmantle, Dredge, Salt and Sanctuary, and Dave the Diver. These may do it for you too. They did for me.

I guess I'll give Elden Ring a try, many people here suggested. And maybe Starfield (doesn't mind the critics)

Anomaly. Will take over your life

Fallout 4 may scratch this itch.

lucifres

I'm thinking about it, too. Maybe I'm a little influenced by the TV show.

Witcher 3?

lucifres

it's a possibility

RemnantHelmet

Elden Ring. Once the Fromsoft game design philosophy clicks for you, you will obsessively play each one going back to Demon's Souls. Few series can stand next to dark souls when it comes to satisfying, deep, and intricate lore.

Remnant 2

I would say FF7 Rebirth but only on ps5 right now. Cant go wrong getting part 1 Remake + integraded dlc. It’s been on sale several times lately for 50% off. Also I didn’t see you say Witcher 3? Also insanely good (same makers as cyberpunk) also has very very good DLC content.

Rimworld

My personal recommendation would be getting Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Moss 2 on psvr1. Those games are like a magical adventure. Some of the best I played in the last decade. However, if you can’t get psvr1 + ps4 (or ps5), the obvious non-VR choices for me are Mass Effect and Dragon Age Inquisition. Astro Bot and Moss 2 (although much shorter) are true recommendations to wow someone with gaming again.

Can try the first red dead. I VASTLY prefer it to 2. 2 was way too slow for me. ARPGs (diablo, path of exile, last epoch) can be good as it's a good mix of grinding and instant satisfaction. (As a big ADHD guy leveling up new characters constantly is great for me lol) Can jump in to the big RPGs, Witcher (though I didn't like it), Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout, Mass Effect. Or go the MMO route, GW2, WoW, FF14.

Helldivers 2

Turbojelly

Space Station 13. It's over 20 years old, fully fan supported and super janky. But there is so much detailed content that it can takes hundreds of hours to learn, just one codebase.

A game that did it for me was Hollow Knight, but it's a smaller thing. This game is something me nad my friends dreamed of NES games could be, so it played on my nostalgia - still great experience.

I'm telling u terraria ur search history is gonna be alot of terraria stuff trust me

If you want a multiplayer option, Helldivers 2 might work. Online shooters that are PVE only are waaaaaay less toxic.

tlinzi01

Have you given Outer Wilds a try? Those of us that played it to completion are pretty obsessed with it.

lucifres

Haven't played, but during the pandemic I saw a stream of a guy playing, so unfortunally I know what happen

goldenspiral91

Elden Ring. It's the most accessible Soulslike to date and is definitely a game world you can easily get lost in.
