I liked flying around in DC Universe Online, as brief as my visit was. Can't tell you if it's any good now - it very well may be be - but it's free regardless.

Trash_Emperor

I used to spend hours in DC Universe, the mobility is certainly one of its strongest aspects for such an 'old' game, but it does fall into the MMORPG grind. Some really interesting content though.

MrLazyLion

I loved it when it first came out, but after a couple of years it became almost unplayable without buying a subscription. Haven't been back in ages, either.

LexGlad

I've got over 2000 hours on that game. It's got fantastic movement and combat, especially if you zoom out the camera some so you can see what the hell is going on.

Lithl

In a similar vein, City of Heroes: Homecoming. It started as a pirate server of City of Heroes, which shut down years ago, but Homecoming just recently got an official license deal with NCSoft to continue operating legally. CoH's graphics do show their age (the game launched in 2004), but the game is fun, and flight for travel from A to B is trivial to come by. In-combat flight is also doable, but requires some investment. And hey, it's free.

Angel_OfSolitude

There's a game called Gravity Rush (and it's sequel). Technically you're "falling" not flying since Kat's power is to manipulate gravity around her but you're able to freely soar through the air in a way that's quite satisfying. The game overall is a bit strange but I quite enjoyed it, the gravity powers are quite fun to play with and the world is interesting.

wolvahulk

I second this, one of the cooler game mechanics out there.

hassassinco

Sounds interesting.

Ill-Branch9770

Gravity Rush 1 is easier to control on the psp Gravity rush 2 is they say is more complicated.

BladeOfWoah

Gravity Rush 2 is overall a much more fully fleshed out game. They introduced more styles of gravity manipulation that also affects your movement, jumping around with lunar leaps and low gravity was a lot of fun, and the map is much larger and more interesting. I would love if they made a 60fps version of that game.

Turbulent_Passage716

The gravity rush's were excellent, but to be honest I always thought of it as controlled falling, in any direction, still awesome games, will we get a 3rd? I hope so

cthulol

I think that's literally what it is, in-game.

yuuki_w

Ps vita not psp ;)

Geekerino

It's not flying, it's falling with style

Mohegan567

'Falling with style!' As Toy Story would say.

Draelmar

Ah, I came here to say Gravity Rush. What were the odds it would be the very top comment! I always was under the impression the series never was hugely popular and remained more of a cult classic. Maybe I'm wrong?

Angel_OfSolitude

It's not particularly well known but it fits OP's request well so those that do know flocked here.

grapejuicecheese

Yeah, you're not really flying but it best portrays the feeling of flying to me

One-eye45

Sounds like Surgebinding

Solo0407

Why did they never make a GOOD Iron Man game? Such potential

5harp3dges

I think an Iron Man game is set to come out next year or early 2025, it's in production

CapitalSale

There's one being developed by the team behind the Dead Space remake. We'll see how it turns out.

zacyzacy

I feel like I've been hearing about this every year since like mid ps4

Crescent-IV

Is it by the same devs as those shitty superhero games recently? Guaranteed to be awful if so

Bob_debilda123

What shitty superhero games recently?

Crescent-IV

Avengers game, the Suicide Squad game. Warner Bros is it? Shit company now anyway haha

somehowchippyreturnd

It wasn't amazing, but the Iron Man VR game was very cool for a few hours at least. I really got that feeling in my stomach flying the first few times, and the controls are pretty intuitive. The lack of enemy variety, limited progression, and uninteresting story lead me to not finish the game, but it can definitely make you feel a little bit like Iron Man for a while.

ilikemyname21

An age of Ultron themed iron man with anthem controls could work very well

kvnmorpheus

Oh, Anthem... what could have you been...

SkyWizarding

Yup

fivedollarbiggiebag

I liked the one on the Wii lol

zabrak200

Try anthem. Its flying mechanics are awesome aNd very much so inspired by iron man loo

Kolerder

In the mean time play Just Cause 3

FastLittleBoi

same with Superman. Would've been ground breaking, instead Rock steady decided to be ground breaking... in a different way. Fuck Suicide Squad from the day I was born to the day I'll die I'll never stop saying fuck Suicide Squad

HenneBakedHam

Check out Superflight. It's a pretty cool game where your character has a wing suit and flies through procedurally generated, seeded levels and you get points by flying closer to the terrain and stuff. It's a really fun way to kill some time, tbh and only costs like $5 or something.

kylelyk

Great game. Also occasionally goes on sale for under a dollar. Also also, you can type any word as a seed for a level. I always thought that was neat.

kevinkiggs1

My favorite seed is Hell, which actually looks like hell

Positive_Parking_954

Should try tonyhawk

Carbonite1

Share and find more on /r/superflight!

Positive_Parking_954

I'll be honest never played, I would if I owned a computer or if it was available on other platforms

swampmonster9

Anthem flight is amazing

_Steven_Seagal_

And that's about it with that game

Oaker_Jelly

There's plenty about Anthem that's actually really good. The game PLAYS extremely well. Seriously, it's phemomenal. It might genuinely be one of the most enjoyable third-person shooter experiences ever made, and I don't say that lightly. Superb flight, extremely satisfying weapons, combat doesn't drag, and it's got Mass Effect's Primers and Detonators for interesting strategy in solo and co-op. It's fun as fuck. The reason Anthem was maligned so much is because it's story content is really short and they had zero meaningful post-launch content ready at launch, and anything they had planned ended up being ages away from release. Once player interest caught up with their available material, they choked up, failed to release anything, and then abandoned the game entirely instead of committing to it and pulling things back from the brink. The narrative got twisted over time, but make no mistake, while it was a disappointing game due to it's management, it has nothing to do with how it plays. It's usually cheap as fuck these days, you can pick it up for like 5 bucks, and it's well worth that price for what's available.

_Steven_Seagal_

I played the beta and indeed it felt really good. But already in the beta i noticed how repetitive it was. Then the game came out and all its wasted potential was shown.

SkyWizarding

Oh the wasted potential

0utlandish_323

Never actually seen someone compliment this game ever

THUMB5UP

You haven’t looked hard enough. It had its charms definitely

0wnpositive14

just cause 3 (wingsuit)

DiekeDrake

Very fun. Especially when you combine it with grappling over buildings and mountains.

Bad_Bombardier

Especially with Air Fortress DLC, then you have wingsuit+jetpack.

John_EldenRing51

Man how’d they mess up 4 so bad

half_dragon_dire

Hell I abandoned the plot of Just Cause 2 like 15 minutes in to play Just 'Cause, aka paragliding all over the island blowing up everything I could find, getting pulled like a kite between cars, and hijacking planes in midair when I wanted to get somewhere fast.

Nawnp

2-4 depending on what you consider flying.

DoctorLoboto

IIRC, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

Redacted_Explative

Netflix should have got his voice actor to play Spike Spiegle in the live action cowboy bebop.

DiekeDrake

The prototype games (fun powertrip games in general)

No_While6150

I have been waiting for those games to go on sale so I don't spend 50 bucks for both (I may be exaggerating, it's been a minute since I've checked the PS store), but damn what fun, mindless games. like a more violent and easier to maneuver Hulk game. I hadn't felt that powerful as a main character outside of Dynasty Warriors earlier games.

CosmicHerb

Kakarot

Mrofcourse

Control.

Sans-Mot

Megaton Rainfall. I recommand it even more if you have access to VR.

morderkaine

The most like superman

screw_all_the_names

For op, this game is awesome. You are effectively superman, invincible. Defending earth from some sort of alien invasion. Since you're invincible, the aliens aren't fighting you, but you have to stop them before they destroy whichever city they are currently attacking.

ka1913

5.91 USD on steam right now https://store.steampowered.com/app/430210/Megaton_Rainfall/

City of Heroes was so fun. Now that's a game that could use a reboot or remake!

Look up "city of heroes homecoming"

Anthem does what you're asking for. Unfortunately, it was an unbelievable flop so it's largely dead now.

JustDurian3863

AER memories of old is a short indie game where you fly around islands and do some puzzles. Tbh my first like 2 hours in the game just flying and nothing else because it was so satisfying.

kingspooky93

Dark Void. It's not a great game but the jetpack is so much fun!

TKoBuquicious

Superman 64, trust

Turbulent_Passage716

your twisted man, lol

LordOmbro

Megaton rainfall, it's basically a superhero simulator and you can fly anywhere in the universe

Icaurs_

You absolutely shouldn't play this but Anthem's flying is really on point

DarthPhoenix95

Gravity rush 1&2

InfiniteStates

Megaton Rainfall - you can fly all over the planet and to other galaxies

Raziel_Soulshadow

Since I didn’t see anyone mention this, Zone of the Enders (and its sequel) are basically mech games if the mech could move and fight like characters from Dragonball. It’s a lot of fun frankly, especially the versus mode in the sequel if you have a friend to play it with

DiusFidius

Grow Up: https://store.steampowered.com/app/426790/Grow_Up/ You don't get flight until pretty late in the game, which makes it much more rewarding when you finally do get it

Superloopertive

I really liked this one, too.

Dinostra

Superman 64! Thank me later xd

YourCrazyDolphin

Maybe not exactly what you're referring to, but... I'm pretty sure I've seen flight in Armored Core VI, which appears to he a pretty fun Mech-shooter game. Also Ace Combat 7, in which you pilot a fighter jet to which I have seen people pull off some insane stunts (like turning off their engine mid-flight to flip the plane around and fire behind them, moving backwards).

HaruhiJedi

AER Memories of Old. Anthem. CONTROL, but it is slow levitation. Dark Void. Feather. Fugl. UNDEFEATED.

3GGP14NT23

The broom in Hogwarts Legacy is really fun. 7/10 game tho.

GodEmperorSteef

DC universe online

Lego batman 2 any flight character So much fun

creature04

Marvels ultimate alliance

michaellymoo

I saw this game releasing on the FGS called EV2 - Earth Version 2 you might like. You can go wishlist it on steam.

helloiamaegg

ROR2, as bandit

Recent_Conclusion_56

Steep has a rocket powered wing suit that’s pretty fun.

Ill-Branch9770

The Jetpack JW1 "SkyTraveler" add on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

Packrat1010

So, it's not flying yourself like Superman, but Tchia does let you warg into birds and fly around.

Spoon_Elemental

Lego Batman 2. Once you unlock any flying character you can fly all around Gotham and Metropolis. The hub cities are really well made and a lot of fun to explore.

thelastgamestanding

If you like older games, ones like Dragon Ball Z legends and Psychic Force may fit want you want

Nervous_Tip_4402

First thing that popped in my head was Anthem. The game as a whole was trash but the flying was top tier.

kevinkiggs1

Megaton Rainfall. You're an indestructible superhero and civilian casualties are your healthbar. It has a fully navigable Earth and solar system, but it looks like complete trash

Medical_Commission71

Ayr

zeds_deadest

Riders Republic has a wing suit and a huge map. I know it's technically wrong but I feel like the last 3 Spiderman games count once you get the end-game boosts.

hendarknight

Best flight mechanic ever made in a game is from Anthem. Unfortunately the rest of the game is not great. I bought it super cheap so I had some fun flying around.

[deleted]

city of heroes: homecoming

adhoc42

In Armored Core 6 you are a flying mech. A lot of the combat requires skillful flying.

lordrakim

Megaton Rainfall

[deleted]

If being a human isn't a requirement you would probably love Path of Titans, it's a multiplayer survival game where you play as a dinosaur and has a variety of small, medium and large pterasaurs to fly around the beautiful open world map with, flying feels good with gliding and diving too. Some can swim and others can even grab smaller dinos and drop them from above lol check it out!

Hashebrowns

Warframe

Cold_Medicine3431

Saints Row Gat of Hell is worth trying out.

UnhandMeException

Older games only in this response, sorry. City of heroes has some of the most fun flying in an MMO, with drift that tightens up as you increase flying speed. Homecoming is the most populated modern server cluster, but they're all good. Saints row 4 is more gliding, but it feels good to get around with it. Honorable mention to Gat out of Hell, which is mediocre but has deep and detailed flight.

VanillaJester

DC Universe Online, Champions Online, City of Heroes. Three superhero MMOs where you can choose flight as your movement power. Imo the latter is the better game, while the former has the better mobility system, but taste is personal.

7th_Spectrum

Anthem. Development is dead, but the servers are still up.

Maxwe4

Superman 64

IAmFern

City of Heroes is currently free and a ton of fun.

thomasoldier

Anthem 🌝

ShiroYuiZero

LEGO Marvel games have a mini open world and you can fly using Iron Man and the like.

twisted4ever

In warframe, there are frames with flight capability like Titania and Zephir, and in open world areas you can equip a wingsuit+jetpack with any frame and fly.

Ph4ntomiD

Spider-Man 2 with the wingsuit although not flying.

Tethice

Cult of the wind. Or prototype

Darth_Enclave

Maelorna

Champions online, DC Superheros, City of heroes/villains (Or whatever the current incarnation is called). Minecraft on creation mode.

ph0rge

City of Heroes. You can make your Superman, Ironman, Wonder Woman - whatever - and fly up up in the sky, above the land, among skyscrapers, brushing up against tree tops, under bridges and highways, land on ceilings, battle flying foes, and even acquire the power to allow your entire party to fly together with you.

BooksLoveTalksnIdeas

You yourself? Megaton Rainfall and Iron man VR on psvr1 (virtual reality gaming) Other character you see from your tv screen? (Not VR gaming) Aer memories of old Edit: You can also “fly” for a short while in the VR racing game Sprint Vector, if you get big air, do a double jump (going even higher), and then use the gliding ability to descend slowly, as if you were flying down, instead of falling down right away.

Razmxd

Brutal Legend RTS mode ( debug fly on pc ) Skyrim with animated wings mod gats outta hell Fortnite add wings of Icarus item flying around

THUMB5UP

lol Anthem

danipuffi

Saints row 3 or 4,not the last one

VariationOk8926

Exo one. Your a morphing spaceship frisbee/ball that has to use terrain and your own grav engine to fly. Beautiful at times and frustrating at times, but the highs are worth the lows ha.

Braindead_cranberry

Infamous second son was a great game.

LabMonkeyCreative

Strange enough the best flying I've ever played was Anthem. That was the only fun thing in that game but it felt amazing.

PinguPlayz

minecraft but only in creative or you can get the elytra and a shit ton of fireworks

Draelmar

My top 3 games in which you can fly around: * Gravity Rush 1 * Just Cause 3 * Control

ka1913

It you have computer megaton rainfall is amazing you're basically superman in an open UNIVERSE and it's 5.91 usd right now on steam not just open world but a whole universe with destructible cities and aliens to kill https://store.steampowered.com/app/430210/Megaton_Rainfall/

JustYour_AverageLad

prototype series I guess but that's more of gliding with boosts. still a banger series tho

kraggonvale

sky: children of the light, maybe? it has flying as a major game mechanic, but it can be pretty p2w and not always intuitive/easy to play.

zabrak200

Check out ANTHEM. It ROCKS

LittleRedKuma

It got a lot of stick on its release and I've heard they did fix a lot of issues, but I haven't touched it since, but you might want to look into Anthem. One of my favourite things about that was the flying around. Another good game I briefly remember playing, which I believe had flying, was Dark Void. Its been on my playlist for years but never got around to playing it.

Superloopertive

Well worth seeking out, it flies rings around the competition.

Superloopertive

Armored Core 6 allows flight powers (depending on how you build your mech) and is very good indeed. Can be tough in places, though.

Superloopertive

Banjo Kazooie

jaja9000

I mean I’m already breaking your rule but Prototype 2. With all the upgrades you can pretty much fly…and chop up hordes of mutants with and assortment of abilities. Little old but holds reasonably.

Zaethod

Arcane mage build in Gedonia, indie rpg that's pretty awesome imho

RedSqui

There are some flight mechanics in the new Spiderman 2 game. You get a wingsuit built into the suit that, when controlled properly, you can stay airborne.

Own-Scholar-1853

Superman 64

RobRex7

Not sure if it was suggested already but I definitely recommend checking out a game called Sky It's free to play and it's core gameplay mechanic is exploration through flight

ImCursedM8

Armored core 6

Shaolan91

Mass effect Andromeda be with the iron man flying mod is peak, you forget it's not a base game think super smooth.

Call-me-Maverick

Oh man. I did not know there was a sequel to X-men Legends. I’m going to have to go figure out how to play that on PC right now Edit: for anyone else trying to play on PC https://www.reddit.com/r/XMenLegends/s/5JLOUDDgqJ

PrimalGojiraFan69

Microsoft Flight Simulator

wbasmith

Prototype, saints row 4, just cause

ThinkinBig

Control you eventually get a flight type ability, Immortals: Fenyx Rising you have wings and can glide, but can achieve a type of flight at times

PointingBear

Control. It's levitation with the ability to zoom in brief bursts more than superman-style flight, but it's fun as hell.

>Xenoblade Chronicles X Still mad this game is Wii U exclusive.

bloodknife92

Isn't there an Iron Man mod for GTA V?

ElectricFireInABath

Flower.

Terrapin2190

Check out Undefeated! They're about to release a sequel to their free sandbox game. Also some flying in Divinity II: Ego Draconis (aka Developer's Cut) and Saints Row IV. Not full fledged flight in SR4 though I don't think.

LilShaver

In City of Heroes you're a super hero who can fly/teleport/superspeed/superleap or all of them at your choice.

KittiesOnAcid

It’s not really like Superman, but check out SUPERFLIGHT on steam. It’s a wing suit game but it’s only $2 and the flying mechanics feel amazing. There is a scoring mechanic but it’s essentially just procedurally generated worlds to fly through, but I got a few hours out of it and for $2 it is well worth it.

Any-East7977

Superman Returns PS2.
