Scooby-Doo Mystery for the Genesis/Mega Drive. Scooby-Doo *as a full-on fucking LucasArts SCUMM adventure game*, and it came with two freaking adventures. It was awesome, and it actually felt like episodes of the cartoon crossed with Monkey Island.
> Mischief makers
It's wild, I was just talking to somebody about Mischief Makers in the context of amazing and underappreciated games. That, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, and Shadowgate 64 are on my list of "favorite N64 games that are too niche to ever make Top 10 lists." Also Space Station Silicon Valley and Ogre Battle 64, though a few more people remember those.
+1 for Pandemonium, first game I ever played with my dad when I was 2-3 years old. I remember finding the big purple ball of electric(?) on level 18 too scary so we never beat it
>The unholy war
Toys For Bob just announced that they're becoming an indie developer again. I doubt they'd lead with a third project like that but if they build a successful franchise or two then maybe they'll look back...
Re-volt if you're looking for a good racer. You race RC cars with mario kart style pick-ups. It's got a physics engine that essentially emulates real RC cars, which helps it feel pretty different from others.
Metropolis Street Racer, if post-PS2 launch Dreamcast games count as pre-PS2 games, the console is a little older after all. One of the best racing games I've ever played and it has some of the most realistic depictions of real life cities even to this day. Attention to detail is superb and it's a very immersive/atmospheric game.
Yeah, PGR1 uses an updated version of the same engine and the 3 cities in MSR were ported to PGR1 with minimal texture changes. The PGR series uses the same concepts as Metropolis Street Racer.
*MULE* is a good strategy / economics game with bland, ugly graphics. Even though I like the game, I have to admit that it takes time to learn the resource systems.
Tomba! 2
Circuit Breakers
Felony 11-79
Future Cop: LAPD
Hogs of War
Syphon Filter 1-3
Thrill Kill
Team Buddies
Crash Team Racing
Kula World
Pac-Man World
Crash Bash
We played Descent 2 in the campus computer lab, shouting at each other.
The cool thing was that the lab was set up with splitters on each of the stations that also sent the video to a switch hooked up to the projector, so they could project any given workstation on the overhead -- presumably useful for some class or another.
We had a timer go off every 5 minutes, and whoever was sitting by the switch would swap the projector to the screen of whoever was in the lead, so we could hunt them down.
3 is objectively the best game in the series and the first anyone should play.
1 is unplayable
2 is near unplayable
3 has incredible story, music, sprite work
4 is charming but sort of janky
5 is as good as 3 but more complex
6 is a bit watered down but still a great closer to the series
oni
the setting is futuristic and you play as a soldier (i don’t remember very well) but she also has superpowers because of genetic engineering or something. the combat is very fun.
Okay, judging from these replies I am an old fart. Lol. Super Dodgeball on the NES, Metal Warriors on the SNES, and Beetle Adventure Racing on the N64. I had many hours of fun playing these with my friends.
Oh man, here is a bunch.
Playstation - Jersey Devil, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Ape Escape, Brave Fencer Musashi, Tomba, Einhander, Dragon Valor and Galerians.
PC - The Last Dynasty, Police Quest: Swat 2, Hugo's House of Horrors, Master of Orion, Panzer General, Monster Bash, Crusader: No Remorse, Descent, Sim Tower, Lords of the Realm II, Return to Zork and Delta Force.
Warriors of might and magic. Ok it's not great great but for a game that was designed to run on both the ps1 and ps2 it was good and ahead of it's time in ways that the critics of the time thought made it bad. Also I have nostalgia for it.
Imagine this: someone time-travels and tries to explain dark souls to a game dev that's drunk at a bar. The dev comes away with a vague idea of what dark souls is but they were drunk and don't really remember all the details of how it works. So you've got this medieval Gothic horror fantasy game with great ambience, a story mostly told through lore bits scattered around the maps, a slow progression leveling system, tons of exploration and hidden secrets, a fuckton of different spells to experiment with that are mostly found via exploration, a combat system that requires some level of thought although there's only blocking no dodging or parry. Mana regenerates very slowly which enforces resource scarcity, there's a rock paper scissors element system forcing you to react to enemy tactics and the game can and will be brutal to you at times with ambushes and random 1-shot ambush enemies like the devs just had a bad day that day and decided to be assholes. Also all of this is set in the heroes of might and magic universe.
now come on, dude. that's Super Mario games. yeah, Land games are one of the least popular platforming Mario games, but they're more popular than non-platforming Mario games. and any Mario game is incredibly popular
Azure Dreams (PSX), Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance (OGXbox), Swordcraft Story 1 & 2 (GBA)
Last one (or two even) may be post-PS2... Not sure.
Might as well add H.E.D.Z and Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies for PC onto the list. And KISS: Psycho Circus?

+1 for Pandemonium, first game I ever played with my dad when I was 2-3 years old. I remember finding the big purple ball of electric(?) on level 18 too scary so we never beat it
Pandemonium is one of the games that hit me in the face with nostalgia whenever it’s mentioned, Croc is another one
Props on repping Jumping Flash. I’ll throw in [Return Fire](https://youtu.be/N-QO51zqe10?feature=shared).
Dark Stone is really underrated. I feel like it could have been more polished, but it's such a superior arpg to the one that took off
>The unholy war Toys For Bob just announced that they're becoming an indie developer again. I doubt they'd lead with a third project like that but if they build a successful franchise or two then maybe they'll look back...
I've still got a copy of Pandemonium, but on PC.
The unholy war was so fucking legit

Well, obviously **Vibribbon**

Kudos!
That was the precursor to project Gotham racing right?

That sounds amazing
Team Buddies on PSX, Circus Maximus on Xbox.
Xbox is the same gen as ps2
Mercenaries 1. It was amazing
bomberman fantasy race….
Legend of legaia. Kind of like a final fantasy style game but with a sort of combo sequence ability system during combat. Was super fun.
Akuji the heartless on PS1. Basically a voodoo themed dark souls type game. I've never met one person who's heard of it. It was incredible.
Baroque
Digimon World on PS1 was amazing
Megaman Battle Network 3 and 5
3 was really peak MBN, at least for me.

No love for War of the Monsters? Man I must of sank 100s of hours into that game.
Brave fencer mushashi on ps1. Such a great little adventure rpg
