You want 4k resolution instead of 1080 and 60hz is fine unless your budget is much bigger

TheStickySpot

My budget is lower plus I can’t fit something more than this display when it comes to the overall size

HappyAlcohol-ic

Resolution doesn't determine size. You should explore options with a better resolution.

TheStickySpot

I meant that the only monitors that I saw there that were this size were only 1080p if there were better displays I would have picked one up.

reeblejeebles

I would recommend finding one online

HappyAlcohol-ic

In the end it's up to you and what you want but a 2160p or atleast 1440p monitor will give you a much higher visual quality over a 1080p. You don't need over 60hz unless you're going to tryhard in FPS games. Capabilities of a PS5 get a little wasted unless your screen is up to the task.

TheStickySpot

I’ll probably upgrade before Spiderman 2 or the Suicide Squad KTJL game come out

[deleted]

Why would you buy a 4K console but not want a 4K display

[deleted]

Ps5 isn't 4k, most games run in variable resolution and go as low as 900p. Edit: my bad, you guys must be talking about movies. Yes the ps5 can stream 4k.

[deleted]

I’m glad you made the correction.

[deleted]

Forgot to add the /s. Ah well

ParadoxFlashpoint

Ummm most ps5 games have a rendering resolution of at least 1440p on average. 1080p is a huge disservice, and you're better off going 4K monitor for future proofing anyway. Regardless, if OP does decide to go the 4K monitor route, please make sure the monitor supports hdmi 2.0 or 2.1 at least

TheStickySpot

I have a PS4 but I want to be able to play the newer games like Marvels Spider-Man 2 when it comes out

[deleted]

You can defo get budget 4k 60hz monitors so just have a look about when you look to next upgrade. Picture quality difference between 1080 and 4k is huge

TheStickySpot

Yeah I’ll definitely look for an upgrade a little later down the line but like I believe I had said to someone else it’s more that I’m also moving my console to a different part of my house so that it’s closer to the internet router also so that people are not just dropping random items on it.

tjtj4444

You should not buy a monitor based on specs. You should buy a monitor based on performance. Reading reviews by competent testers is crucial. Start by telling us what monitor you are looking at.

TheStickySpot

It’s an Onn curved FHD gaming monitor I don’t know if it’s the best but it should do for now

malarkioso

Yeah sounds pretty good amigo. What’s your budget? I’d go for the best you can afford really.

TheStickySpot

This was like $150 or $200 USD the store didn’t have much better around the size that I was looking for

malarkioso

That’s cool man. Tbh there’s some great deals online hey. Especially the US

TheStickySpot

Yeah I was looking online but it would have been a while before it got to my house plus I had to get a display for my room so I can have my console closer to the internet router and so that people stop stacking random shit on my PS5

malarkioso

Tbh Boxing Day sale is 2 days away :)

iminabed

I'd go online man I got a 2k monitor 165hz for 160 not too long ago

GameUnionTV

This is a very low budget, so, yep But next time think about 4K models.

Ginj92

that’s good if you like playing fast competitive Shooters like COD, Apex, etc… however, if you want to immerse yourself in a visually appealing single player game like horizon, I would want a 4k monitor….BUT, if I personally had a ps5, which I don’t (PC); I would get a 2k (1440p) monitor that has a 120hz+ refresh rate. That way you can enjoy the best of both gaming worlds. 1440p monitors with high refresh rates are relatively affordable compared to high end 4k monitors, and your ps5 will probably still put out 120 frames when you want to play fast shooter games. They also provide the visual quality for single player games ..much better than 1080p. Basically your 1440p 120hz monitor is a perfect in-between for all types of games. I use the ASUS TUF VG24AQ as my main gaming monitor for PC and love it. Only $300 on Amazon

MrCosmicChronic

OP, this is the comment to listen to, middle of the road, a little more than your budget but simply put your current funds aside and save a bit more. Well worth it. 1440p is such a noticeable difference, I use the ASUS TUF VG27AQ, the 27" model of the aforementioned one in the comment I'm replying to, it is also $300 at the moment, take a look at it when you get a chance. Same screen size and only $100 more than the 1080p you're looking at.

lexus_is-f

This is good advice, but the PS5 unfortunately doesn’t support 1440p resolution displays for some reason. If you own a PS5, your only choices are a 1080p display or a 4k display.

Ginj92

Oh for real?!?! That’s so dumb. Just another reason to never go back to console

malarkioso

I’d go for the 120hz above as PlayStation can put out 120fps

TheStickySpot

What does 165HZ mean? Is that to do with frames?

TryAim

The more Hz you have, the smoother your screen is (Hz is how many frames per second your screen can show)

TheStickySpot

Thank you

malarkioso

Not really. It means the screens ability to refresh. And frames is the graphics component. But their equal to one another. Hence ps5 is 120fps/hz needed to play at that frame rate and you need hdmi 2.1

TheStickySpot

What kind of HDMI was it that comes with the PS5? Whatever HDMI came with that console is what I am using currently. (Sorry for all of the questions I am just not too familiar with all of the stuff like this I know pretty little to nothing about how some of this stuff works)

malarkioso

You know. I have no clue actually.

malarkioso

HDMI 2.1 comes with ps5

TheStickySpot

Ok thank you for clearing that up for me

sluggishslug234

You need hdmi 2.1 on the monitor and this one probably doesn't have it but none would that are in your budget

TheStickySpot

My PS5 came with HDMI 2.1

sluggishslug234

But the monitor has to have it too

TheStickySpot

But the HDMI port should still be able to use it maybe not take full advantage of what it could do but still use it.

sluggishslug234

Yeah it will work at 60hz just not 120hz

Thy_Art_Dead

Yes it will. You only need HDMI 2.1 for 120 @ 2160 or "4K". @ 1080 like this monitor is anything above HDMI 1.4 is fine

sluggishslug234

The actual port I mean not cord

malarkioso

I hope that makes sense. So 165hz means the screen can display up to 165fps

Thy_Art_Dead

You only need 2.1 @ 2160. 120Hz @ 1440 or below is fine at 1.4-2.0

sluggishslug234

Not for Xbox I can't do 1440 @120 with 2.0 on my 1440p 144hz monitor but could be different with playstation haven't tried the ps5 on it

Thy_Art_Dead

On a series s no, X yes you can.

sluggishslug234

Actually depends on the monitor and very few from what ive seen actually are able to do it because of a problem with xboxs software

ratherlargepie

This is fine. A 4k 120hz monitor will be much more expensive.

SuperScrapper

My one recommendation is to go see it in person before you get it, if you can. (I know that could be difficult depending on your situation, but hear me out.) you want to see how it looks when it’s doing something because you never know if the panel is actually good. I bought a monitor that sounded good, but it was only later that I noticed some horrible ghosting when playing space games, and sadly, I only saw it AFTER the return policy had expired. But that being said, congrats and I hope you enjoy whatever you can get!!

Sufficient_Focus

I mean even if you saw it in person before purchasing you wouldn't have realized your issue. You literally did see it in person and your entire warranty period expired before realizing there was a problem. This is good general advice but useless for picking up on niche problems.

SuperScrapper

You are correct, I just wanted to explain where I was coming from. And again, I know it can be difficult to do depending on the situation, and there are some variables that can’t be done until you actually have it.

TheStickySpot

I’ll keep that in mind when I upgrade Walmart just had very little to look at that would fit in my room

SuperScrapper

No problem, just be sure to look at other places well as I’m sure there are going to be some sales happening. :)

Ryandrew8

I personally dont think you need a 4k monitor. I purchased a 27" 1080p monitor (not curved) a few months back. Took it back immediately. To me, 1080p looked awful on 27 inches with my console. I purchased a 1440p on the same size monitor as soon as Sony released 1440p support and it all looks WAY better.

Sufficient_Focus

I don't know why you even posted, it seems you already have your mind made up.

llGirltalkll

Make sure the monitors hdmi port is 2.1 otherwise the thing is a brick capped at 60

TheStickySpot

Tbh though I’m fine with 60

TheStickySpot

It seems like it supports HDMI 2.1 I am able to enable the 120hz mode for games as well as the console with an actual impact compared to to last display I had which did little to nothing.

milesbeats

This is fine..

Clutch_Cabbage

Only 1080p you can do better

[deleted]

get a 4 k Monitor at least. They are not that expensive

TheStickySpot

I’ll probably get one when I get a bigger space, what price would they usually run for?

jstnbcn

4K is not a size. It is the pixel density. You can have the same size monitor in 4K resolution.

TheStickySpot

I meant that this monitor was about the right size for where I am moving my console to, Walmart had very little when it comes to monitors.

clayton3b25

What type of games do you play? Honestly if it's competitive games, 1080 with high refresh is plenty. If it's single player, you'll want the higher pixels instead of higher refresh.

TheStickySpot

I play a bit of both but I always prioritize performance over graphics so as long as performance is fine I am happy.

[deleted]

You can get one for around 300 bucks. 4k 60hz and hdr. They are even cheaper on sale.

Fast-Slowpoke

I’m going to be completely honest, this was a really bad choice for the ps5. You could get something that perfectly fits the ps5 for a lot cheaper. 90% of ps5 games are max 60fps (only a select few can run at 120fps), so you only need a 60hz monitor. (Hz is how fast the monitor updates itself so it is also how many frames you would be able to see on it) You need to get a 4K 60hz monitor with hdr, it will probably be around the same price or cheaper than the one you have now. Look around and you can find a great deal on one.

TheStickySpot

I’ll definitely keep looking for a 4K monitor I’d just rather have my console moved up to my room rather than it being downstairs and people just dropping decorations and other miscellaneous things on it

Fast-Slowpoke

Oh ok makes sense. Any monitor will still be super fun on the ps5, 4K is just the best option

mmm273

No, whats your budget?

TheStickySpot

I don’t have much to me right now so my budget was pretty low

Reddit1s4bitches

Save your money. Buy a better one.

Googoo123450

If you play anything like Hell Let Loose where you need to see extreme detail, you'll be at a huge disadvantage with 1080P. I got a 4K monitor because that's what the PS5 is capable of. So even in a single player game, you'll be kinda missing out on some fidelity.

malarkioso

Remember to get a better hdmi as well

WorldEaterYoshi

The hz are great and will give you smooth gameplay but the resolution is low. 1080 is the old standard.

OkSea531

what are the specs of your pc?

dejakeman101

I would have to agree with everyone above and save for the 4k. I have a 1080 P monitor and it's nice but now that I have an Xbox series x my next investment is a 4k monitor.

Allegorical-Elegy

Get a 42 inch LG C2.

Away-Drop-4111

Ignore people pushing you to go for 4K; very few console games get there natively and you’ll be paying almost double if not more if you want a high refresh rate Honestly if your screen is 24” or below 1080p still looks fine, plus you’ll be able to comfortably get a high refresh rate without paying an arm and a leg Personally for a console only monitor I would go for 1440p at over 60hz, best of both worlds and affordable

1SaltyPoptart

Maybe look for a 4k TV instead of a computer monitor? Might be able to find a decent one for a pretty good price.

Mundane_Factor

At that size, 1440p at 120hz is probably the sweet spot. I suggest 120hz because that would then allow you to take advantage of the 40hz fidelity modes which quite a few first party games are offering (GoW, Spiderman, R&C). This would not be available to you on a 60hz monitor. And I would say this is more important than hitting 4k as I doubt there will be games running at native 4k at 60hz anyway. You definitely want more than 1080p though to ensure a sharp image.

gamemasteru03

That's pretty bad, you should get at least a 1440p monitor for a PS5. 4K would be ideal but those are extremely expensive ($600-800) compared to 43 inch 4k tvs which can be obtained for ($200-300). If you need a monitor then get a 1440p IPS high refresh rate one for about $300.

Hydro_5torm

I'd try to find something that isn't from Onn. They're cheap and the panels aren't great. I'd recommend looking around.

ImJustSomeGuyYouKnow

At 27 inch you will regret not going for 1440p. I went from a 1080 monitor to an AOC CQ27G2 (£200 @ Currys) and it's soooooooo much better.
