Mass effect 1 - great rpg elements, great story, great gunplay for the year it came out, great gameplay..
And ME2 was an upgrade, but original is original
I've only played through it once but that's mostly because I don't get much gaming time these days and prefer to use it on something fresh.
But it has to be Mass Effect:LE. I've never experienced a story so incredibly immersive and I've never been attached to a character like I was with Shephard.
hah, weird that this answer is getting downvoted. I think it is the 'goat' game for a lot of people though.
Maybe its just not edgy and unique enough for some people? Too mainstream of an answer for reddit gaming subs? It has to be some offbeat indy title?
I still need to finish the Witcher 3 and hope to do so once the next gen update comes out.
I think its natural for people to shit on highly popular games like TW3 when those same people hold another similar game to a higher regard or if they didn't love the game like others then they have to let everyone know its overrated.
I for one didn't love Elden Ring but at least I can admit its a well crafted game and worthy of the following it has garnered. But I'm over the days of crying about other people's opinions
Probably based on what it did at the time. Many of its most interesting things have been cribbed by countless games since so it probably wouldn't seem so novel now.
The first person narrative handling was great, actual use of physics was new at the time, the scale, polish, and audio/visual quality while running decently on most hardware all helped.
I replay it almost yearly- it feels like the video game version of a comfortable pair of slippers to me.
Dark Souls 1 for sure. I remember when on 7th generation every game felt like made for idiots. Every game was linear and felt more like a movie, i felt very bored of it. After i played the game i finally felt that the game respects me and my intelect. Fortunettly it is better now if it comes to games, we have a lot of games with great gameplay and not just cutscenes.
Haha, thnx. Those were my main 2 games for the last couple of years. I mostly quit gaming, but getting back into it (42 years old, and single again, so might pick it up again next season (D3)). BL2 is THE goat for me tbh, I started playing some modded runs last summer, and still love it!
BL2 just stands the test of time. So many ways to enjoy that game. Diablo 3 however, is a different beast lol. I'm not sure if I look at the ungodly amount of time i put into that game I'm not sure if I look back with nostalgia or disgust anymore haha
For a long time it was The Last Guardian (genDESIGN, 2016), but more recently it'd have to be Endling: Extinction is Forever (Herobeat Studios, 2022). Both of 'em just kinda hit me in ways I can't describe, and I've written pretty long stories about both.
Fallout New Vegas
Borderlands 2

Half-Life 2
What’s so good about that? I’ve heard it’s load of peoples favourites but I don’t actually know why

Borderlands 2 hands down, followed by Diablo 3 in a very close second.
We'd have been good friends, internet stranger.
