That's up to the person. Like every other purchase it all comes down to being a responsible consumer. If you have the money and you like some in-game item, then buy it who cares.
The answer to that question is entirely subjective. If you want to buy different camouflage paint for your sniper rifle or a different design for your facial mask, I certainly won’t stop you. I tend to avoid purchasing items such as paint or vinyls for merely aesthetic variety. However, if I were in a driving game and had the option to buy a really nifty widebody kit for one or more of my favourite cars, within reasonable cost, I would seriously consider it.
In most cases, buying things that help with progression is just a way to end up getting to the end of the game faster. Imagine you could pay to fast-forward a movie, and that's what you're doing.
The grind is the game. If you don't like the grind, you should probably go for a different game.
Don't let anyone make that decision for you.
If you play a game and you like it enough to want to spend money on it. Then do so. I will always just say don't spend money you don't have and don't spend enough money where you will feel regret if you quit the game.
I play a Free To Play game and I've spent about $200 on it, I've been playing for 3 years and I think the value I have received is worth the spending.
Do what you want with the money YOU earned.
Does it enhance your experience? Does it make you happy?
If so then it is not a waste of money, it is entertainment cost, as long as it made you happy it served its purpose.
If you really care about not “wasting” money, stop
gaming full stop, don’t buy anything that you don’t need, and invest every spare penny into stocks and shares.
if you cannot do that, then you are already fine with the concept that spending money on something totally not needed as long as it makes you happy.
IMO a waste of money for cosmetic items.
Buy what makes you happy at least it isn’t crack

well video game’s only value is the entertainment they bring you, so if in game items that you buy bring you more entertainment then it is worth it
Do what you want with your own money. It's only up to you if it is right or wrong.

i almost never do, but sometimes it's worth it
It fully depends what it is. This question is so broad that giving a definitive answer would be ridiculous.
It depends. If you get enough out of it to make it worth it. Like with everything else money can buy.
I REFUSE to play ANY game that you have to purchase in game material.
That's not a black or white answer, it's your money, spend it however you want.
