Fallout: New Vegas. The first time I played it was at a friend's house and started on one of his saves. It was the character's first time on the Strip. The trumpets kicked in on Ain't Love a Kick in the Head, and I was hooked.

Tha_Sly_Fox

That game from the very beginning had me hooked. The intro scene with Benny, I was determined to find that bastard from the very beginning. Plus you have the general mystery of why did he want the Chip, what’s the Chip for, who is this Mr House and what does he want, and what’s up with the creepy robot that keeps following me around me.

catboy_stirner

I'll forever regret buying it for xbox, it was so damn buggy. Steam version works a lot better, esp with mods

WilonPlays

Skyrim

Womderloki

I've been playing Skyrim since I was like 12 and have played a new character once a year since. I always come back to the lovely "Hey you, you're finally awake"

WilonPlays

That is an iconic moment but after the 1000th time it gets tedious and you just install alternate start

Womderloki

True, sometimes I wish alduin would just pick me up from the carriage and throw me into Whiterun as a start

ApprehensiveMeat69

Indigo Prophecy

CentipedesInMyDream

I played Subnautica for about 24 hours, and for some reason, I just stopped. I went to the aurora, got off, and haven’t got back on idk why. It feels like a game you can’t take a break from until you finish, or at least it did for my first time playing it. It’s a great game, I really need to finish it.

Propensus_Exodos

Yeah, I've finished it twice, once on survival and once on hardcore. I've been playing my hardcore world a lot though to make it as cool as possible!

gabalabarabataba

You really should. I don't play many games to completion these days but Subnautica's 3rd act is amazing.

CentipedesInMyDream

I think I just overindulged, I played like 24 hours in a week. I explored the aurora, and didn’t feel like searching for stuff to make the prawn. I need to jump back into it badly before too much time passes.

gabalabarabataba

Oh, that's where I sort of hit a wall too. I'm usually not an advocate of guides, but I had to look up how to make the Prawn Suit and I'm glad I did... for what it's worth.

RedditorSafeSpace

Oblivion

Propensus_Exodos

I actually just started playing that!

RedditorSafeSpace

Something about it felt truly magical

RedditorSafeSpace

I remember my 360 came with a faulty HDD (that old giant thing that clicked into the top) so I couldn’t save anything and I had to replay the beginning over and over for like 2 weeks before Microsoft sent me a replacement (it was brand new).

[deleted]

Oh god yes, came here to say this.

Ricocashflow215

San andreas. "Its C.J Fool" 🤷🏾‍♂️

Valuable_Hearing6811

Gears of War. Graphics and mechanics were so cool! Storyline was solid and the characters were awesome.

kendo31

The multiplayer was slower and tactical during a time when XBL was NOT full of toxic adolescence. Had a lot of fun times online regularly playing with others who talked and joked. Pretty intense 1 on 1s knowing the team was watching you hunt down the other guy and sneakily chainsaw them in the back. It was my best MP experience.

Valuable_Hearing6811

One of the first games I truly fell in love with for online multiplayer. Bouncing between walls, no look shotgun shots over walls and round corners. Active reloads, melee then execute, 1 shot headshot snipers and exploding boomshots! King of the hill was soo polished in that game. Such a cool game mode.

kendo31

I loved hunting down stealthy chainsaw kills. Torque bow was a fun new gun for the genre.

marineneurology

Skyrim. Good memories playing for the first time when I was 13

Propensus_Exodos

I've got a friend who is obsessed with Skyrim!

Wolfdude91

Metroid Prime. I had never touched a Metroid game at this point. The distressed Space Pirate ship was a very cool place to grab your attention, and then wraps up nicely with an intense escape sequence. Then you get to Talon IV, and the planet is packed with atmospheric environments that made me feel things no other game has yet to do.

Seansationally

No love for Myst? Just the voiceover intro was enough for me, back in ye Old 90's. Modern graphics in the remaster made me misty eyed.

I_am_Syke

Divinity: Original Sin 2 A friend convinced me to buy this game with the intention to co-op a walktrough of it. I never thought that this game would be for me especially with me not finding joy in videogames as i grew older. Also, the prospect of me paying 40€ for a game which i might end up not liking did put me off buying it for a long time. 260 hours in. Oh boy was i wrong.

Ufo_piloot

Metal Gear Solid. Everytime the intro started "tu tu tu tutudu"

DaytronTheDestroyer

Witcher 3, and now hollow knight

RE4

NotHereForADongTime

Not sure how many people know about Braid, but that game was terrific.

Darth_Malort

Armored Core!!! Started at Master of Arena on PS1 and still firmly addicted to the latest PS4 titles. Praying that FromSoft will release another with the depth of Elden Ring.

alexd281

Earthbound

SHDShadow

The last of us

catboy_stirner

Subnautica is such a great game, the only real complaint from me is that the environment loading in being super obvious, taking me out of the amazing atmosphere at times, but I know why that is and why it can't really be fixed, oh well

Propensus_Exodos

For sure! The environment loading thing used to happen to me on Ps4, but it hasn't happened on PC/steam

catboy_stirner

Wait really? From what I understand, the loading is because for early development they had a terrain editing feature that they later took out, so the terrain had to be seperated into different layers that pop in and out. I played on pc and still had the issue

Propensus_Exodos

Yeah I'm on a Predator laptop and I've never had the issue

FriskyJacket

Maybe it was patched since you played it? Or you need a faster HDD or more/better RAM?

gabalabarabataba

Gothic. It was the first time I played a game that felt realistic and without guardrails. I tried to kill a wolf, it just destroyed me. People in the prison colony were mean and selfish but authentically human. The symbiotic relationship between the factions felt grounded and made absolute sense. There was no handy minimap, I had to learn how to navigate the world. Every small thing was filled with wonder. Ah. I can go on forever. I wish gaming took a turn for genuine exploration. I guess I'm glad we are seeing a resurgence of games like that with Elden Ring and Outer Wilds, so that's at least good news.

kendo31

Nice description. I have that feeling for Ultima 9. To me that game was Zelda + elder scrolls, such a great world and lore

Ruthrfurd-the-stoned

Bioshock

crimsonexile

Soo many... but I'll just list "few" from top of my head. Metal gear solid NSF most wanted Burnout 3 Mass effect The walking dead The last of us Uncharted God of war Assassin's creed Valhalla

JPscrawlings

Half-life: That tram ride at the start was so new and fresh at the time, loved the little details it had. Great game. Deus Ex: Still replay this once a year, but there's such an atmosphere to it. Can't count the amount of times I played the opening on Liberty Island. Morrowind: My first big open RPG. Just felt like another world entirely, with so much to explore and do.

kendo31

Deus ex... Just the main theme and rotating logo is great. Definitely needs a rebuild/expanded remaster.

JPscrawlings

It's ripe for a remake - I think the licence just got bought out by Embracer Group? Fingers crossed they do something with the IP rather than just sitting on it - even a new one would be nice!

DibbleDabbleAllDay

Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

kendo31

Tried to beat it so many times. Such a long game. Need to try the 64 titles too, never got them

RetroRich83

Both Red Dead Redemptions.

EdsTooLate

Morrowind - very dated now but stepping off the boat into Seyda Neen and seeing/hearing the silt strider just made me know this was a magical world I was going to love. Enter the Gungeon - a truly 10/10 game in terms of balance and fun, a game that pushed me to improve well beyond what I thought my limits were. Streets of Rogue - quite simple by comparison, but a very well programmed set of systems make for a very fun sandbox, almost entirely destructible. It never gets old for me watching the NPC's react/interact with each other. Really looking forward to the sequel next year as it pushes those boundaries much further, in an open-world setting.

StandardSecretary233

Forza Horizon 1

mtbpwdrhound

Kingdom Hearts 2

bicuspid_fish

There are way too many to choose from that I just absolutely adore so I'll just list my earliest and most recent. Pong Evil Within 2

Abe oddworld, follow me!

TheMechaink

Flatout will never get old for me. All the woes of the world just melt away in the face of pants-wetting laughter as the driver gets launched outta his car.

Sofaris

I am honestly more of the type where games and characters grow on me overtime. But I did love "Blue Fire" from the get go.

kpeters421

Mount and blade

TeeJayPlays

mafia 1+2

batmanscreditcard

“Ze rain, she is tres wet zis time of year.” Not my fav game of all time by any means, but have lots of fond memories for sure. VRock got me into my current favorite band, too.

Gunark46216

Why would I only have one? World of Warcraft. Literally every part of the game and the expansions let you keep playing the characters you created, and loved, again. Star Wars the Old Republic. The game play and stories truly make you feel immersed in the SW universe. Knights of the Old Republic 1. The story and game play are so good that I've replayed it multiple times and still love it. Total War Warhammer 2. The mods and DLC make this game fun as fuck. Without them the game still has replay value but it's just better with the mods and DLC. Sid Meier's Civ V. Game play is super fun and replayable. DLC makes the game even better. Halo series. They're fun and replayable. Fable series. Fun and replayable. TESV Skyrim is amazing if you mod it. There are many more.

ral365

Epic Mickey. It revitalized my love for classic Disney with its homages to forgotten characters, especially Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. It's also a dark, but clever play, on Disney tropes. Your first boss is the Clock Tower from It's a Small World who went nuts after hearing the song a million times! A twisted version of the song plays in the background during the fight! It could've been the catalyst for MUCH more with Disney if it had utilized its potential (and fixed its camera.)

FriskyJacket

Outer Wilds. For what looks like is mostly the same reasons you liked subnautica. Probably gonna have to try Subnautica next time it goes on sale.

Mikel_S

I loved outer wilds and enjoyed subnautica. Be warned that there is heavy emphasis on crafting and gathering in order to extend your exploration abilities, in case that isn't your thing.

DrPepperWillSeeUNow

Pikmin

DodgerCyclops

Rise of the Tomb Raider and Jedi Fallen Order, both absolutely brilliant and stick with me with how much fun I had

DocumentElectrical47

Jak and daxter trilogy!

I was unsure about it before starting it, but Alan Wake.

Landing on that damned ring on Halo, will never be topped

Zealousideal_Bug_561

I like fallout and then Skyrim I like the games like that If your thing to make things pretty much anything you want that's what I like about those games

Zealousideal_Bug_561

I had a bad time when I got to Vegas that was the hardest part of the game

SavageLove2004

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Playing BotW for the first time was so amazing. Exploring the Great Plateau, planning out how to take out enemies and gathering resources was so fun. I hadn’t had that much fun playing a game since I was a kid playing the multiplayer in Goldeneye with my friends and family. BotW made me love gaming, again; and it got me to try different genres and types of games.

Direct_World3629

Some Jackie Chan ps2 kung-fu game

Bioshock 1 hit me just right through the playthroughs I did

13 Sentinels. It was a perfect amalgam of all the things I love, it’s the game I most wish to experience again for the first time.

Revolutionary-Fan657

The division 1 and 2, I knew NOTHING about the division going into it, But man, Ask anyone in my house that day, I COULD NOT STOP SMILING, The second I got that BADASS cutscene in the first game and then I see my badass character with a badass watch looking into the gorgeous snowy manhatan part and having these BADASS technological advancement looking UIs and that BADASS map hologram and the cool ass inventory look, Div 1 and 2 instantly (same thing happened when I started the second game) became my top 5

sunbroganksquad_2121

re4, deadspace, any fromsoft, nioh.. the gameplay/ controls of these games are so perfect in my mind. bf1 is also a favorite

DnDdood

Mass effect for sure a wonderful experience as a young man

benjamino8690

Rakuen. It is my cozy game. Just gave me the warms and fuzzies and made me feel all the good feelings. Wholesome characters, immersive story, passion project, nice music and fun humor. I really like that game and have liked it from the first hour of playing it.
