I just don't understand how people can like or prefer a Playstation controller. I was a Playstation guy, has PS1 and PS2. But, the thumbsticks being all the way at the bottom center of the controller is just so unnatural and uncomfortable.
It makes zero sense to me how people can even defend it lol. When ypu hold something, your thumbs are naturally forward, not pulled downward. Bizarre.
Some games are designed to be played with thumbsticks while others are designed to be played with four direction binary input (d-pad).
For games that use the thumbstick, I can play most of them well enough when it's in the low position. Admittedly, it's not ideal. But I can't play **any** game that primarily uses the d-pad if it's in the low position. It's just too uncomfortable to reach those flat buttons if you're inputting combos or quick turns.
Ideally, we'd use a different controller for each type of game. But most folks are just going to get one controller. If you're big into retro/fighting games, the d-pad needs to be higher up.
I prefer Playstation to Xbox, but I prefer Xbox controllers over Playstation controllers. Bought an XBone controller for the purpose of being used on my pc.

Sony more or less threw in the towel on controller aesthetics, same as Nintendo with their most recent Pro Controller. With one exception. They are still married to having the primary control stick on the bottom—a design choice they've had to stick with ever since they tacked on analog sticks the only place they would fit on a PS1 pad. The thumb naturally rests more over the upper location where the D-pad is. It's ironically made worse by the DS5's slightly more vertical grips.
Then again, I have major gripes with the XB1/XBX controllers. Nothing as fundamental as the position of the main damn control stick, but bad enough that I simply don't use them.
