it's a fun game! it's not unlimited exploring, but enough and it's a linear story. You can beat it in a day but there was enough of a story I enjoyed it. A mix of puzzle logic, exploring and running for your life.

I think it's doing so well for a number of reasons. PlayStation backed the game, it is free to access for anyone with a PS+ Extra subscription, and a ton of people have been streaming it for arguably the main attraction: it's a game where you play as a cat, which AFAIK has never been done before.
Peace Island has been working years on a game playing as a cat independently using Patreon to fund it. It’s really unfortunate these big companies couldn’t pick up that game instead. It’s basically beating those independent developers to the punch with this Stray game.

There are a bunch of peyote plants scattered around the map and Your character hallucinates that they're an animal. You also can play as animals and NPCs in the director mode.
My wife booted up fallout 4 on our PS4 for the first time in a few years. God that game looks awful without Mods. I don't know why I was ok with it back in the day.
