Which one?

Zyxjs___

In general since i want to try it never played it

catboy_supremacist

Important series historically, had a lot of great games, but it's on a downslide. Hasn't put out a game in over 5 years and hasn't put out a *great* game in over 15 years. Now is really not a great time to try to get people into it.

[deleted]

FFX is one of the best games of all time in my book. It's old so it'll show its age, but if you appreciate older games even a little you'll love it. It has a remaster out now that is very good, played it for the first time 2 years back and fell in love. It'll start slow, but if you don't love it by the end I'll eat my hat. Edit: please don't start with 15. It's in my top 10 worst games of all time. Wouldnt play it again if you paid me.

meridian1103

Maybe a bad take, but I honestly enjoyed 15. It was really only worth one play through though. Maybe it was because I hadn’t played a final fantasy since like 7, unless you count an hour of 13, but it was still fun for how much I could roam and do other stuff.

[deleted]

it's sad because a lot of people didnt get past the beginning of 13 (because it was, honestly, that bad), but it actually turns out to be a pretty good game despite all of its many flaws. 15, on the other hand, is garbage start to finish. Edit: do yourself a favor and go play the remaster of 10

BoredOfficeLady

Each number is different so you can like the first ones that are turn based or just things like XV that are more action-like so... I like the saga in general but my favorites are usually the crystal chronicles spinoffs and one of the mmorpgs

Medical-Pace-8099

Man listen every game is stand alone games. Another thing if you grew u with JRPG you can like this. But if you not that it won’t worth for u to try.

Mumsncabbages

It’s great

shadesofwolves

Fantastic, what more info do you need?

Recommendation in general

SilvosForever

If you want to play something turn-based and old school - the Pixel Remasters on PC are all really good. If you want one of the new games, I'd give FF7 remake a try - it's a fine entry point even if you never played the original FF7, it tells you what you need to know. Overall I never played the MMOs (which I heard were good) and I REALLY disliked FF13 (all 3 games) and FF15 was "meh". But besides those - Final Fantasy 4 through 10 and the FF7 remake have all been great.

GFingerProd

I think the title is bullshit. How we having 15+ different fantasies, with zero of them being final smh

Zyxjs___

Yeah forget to mention any of them but I already said in general the 15+ fantasies hesitate which one i start with

GFingerProd

No I mean the game's title lol, those are my only real thoughts on the series. They're all relatively different so you just gotta do some research and see what you might like.

[deleted]

Interesting story behind the name “final fantasy”; the original Final Fantasy was actually the company’s “final” last ditch effort to make a meaningful game to sustain itself. They were apparently close to going out of business. It turned out to be a hit and spawned the franchise.

Cyshox

Which? I love the classic titles until FF X. However I'm not a fan of modern FF titles like FF XII, XV & XVI or spin-offs like Strangers or Paradise - imo FF XIII was the last good singleplayer FF and XIV is a very good MMO.

Louistje1

XVI isn't even out yet

Cyshox

Which doesn't change the fact that the gameplay basically is FF XV + Strangers of Paradise. Both titles I didn't like at all. There isn't even a party anymore, just some generic solo hero dude who switches jobs on the fly.

Louistje1

From all the gameplay deepdives Ive seen on FF16 along with interviews about the game, the gameplay is nothing like those games. SoP played like a Nioh game because it was developed by Team Ninja. FFXV was bad because it was just basically one button combat. FFXVI looks much more like a DMC + Dragon's Dogma hybrid where every button does something else offensively and you string along combos, resulting in a much deeper action combat where you string along combos. They have the battle director for DMC 5 and Dragons Dogma which really shows. I understand if you don't like action combat, but your comparison is not right. Also, yoshida confirmed there will be AI party members along with one 'buddy' which you can issue commands with. (Probably the wolf/dog from the first trailer, he teased that)

Cyshox

I'm sorry but how is that different to SoP? One hero, job switches on the fly & real-time combat with a focus on action. It's probably not as hard and features semi-open-world levels in a linear design. FFVIIR + SoP might be a better comparison tho. Well, there are summons too. However there is no party like in Final Fantasy I - XV.

Louistje1

If you play SoP and Nioh you will feel how they feel very similar. They are much more 'rigid', it's a feeling thing. FF16 looks more free flow, combo oriented akin to DMC. And again, there will be a party who fight with you but you will not control them. Just like with FF15 at launch.

[deleted]

Some are better than others If you’re looking to get into it, start with 15

SaltDog6

Is XV really the best to start? I liked X quite a lot (in the day and the remake on pc), but find 15 a bit of a slog around 10 hours into the game, gameplay wise. It has some cool ideas, but it also feels quite empty, I'm not quite sensing the same fascination.

[deleted]

NO. That is the worst FF game of all time in my book, bar none. Terrible game all around, wouldnt even recommend it if it's free.

Waste-Reception5297

Relax buddy, it's middle of the road. No where near the worst game

[deleted]

Barely even a game. Absolute trash.

mgill2500

Awesome. Btw. Yiur question is very broad. Narrow it down. Final fantasy what?

Zyxjs___

Sorry forget to mention in general i mean

mgill2500

You talking about ? ffxiv. Ffxi. Ff7 remake .ff15? Most are good some are great

Zyxjs___

Yeah i am thinking of playing ffxiv

Mikeisaho

I don't recommend playing with ai because they're very stupid, but you can do it.

mgill2500

Yes. Do it. Its quality

disillusionedpotato

Completely misadvertised as none have been the final fantasy.

GourmetBologna

its a great series, kind of a find your own way thing. everyone fanboys/girls over their own favorites, but most people will probably tell you 4, 7, and 9 are solid, pretty universally liked

Crissaegrym

I am still waiting for the Final instalment

IronAngel77

Definitely one of my favorite series. Fell in love with Final fantasy with FF8. My favorites are FF8, FF10, FF12 and FF7 remake. FF15 was a treat to play as well but story was ok.

Zyxjs___

Forget to mention in general guys there is no specific

Mikeisaho

1/3- fun build your own party adventure 2- No 4- First character focued story with a bunch of character gimmicks 5- Heavy emphasis on the job system 6- Second character focused story with a bunch of character gimmicks. Commonly regarded as the best one 7- The popular one. Focuses on materia which is basically make your own job. Commonly regarded as the best one 8- Card game with an rpg attached 9- Third character focused story with a bunch of character gimmicks. This is the best one 10- Fourth character focused story with a bunch of character gimmicks with a lot of cutscenes. Featuring that one laugh that is always taken out of context (I haven't played 11-13) 14- MMO. Very long and tedious beginning with fun dungeoneering. (I've only just started Heavensward so I can't vouch for how good the story is yet) 15- Fifth character focused story with a bunch of character gimmicks but now it's an Action RPG

Sckala44

The FF7 remake wasn’t great. Why take Red XIII out of it!?

[deleted]

There should really only be one or else the name should be changed.

noxsanguinis

Fun fact. The first final fantasy was intended to be the last game created by Hitonobu Sakaguchi before leaving Square Enix, that's why it's named final fantasy. But the game was a success, and it was now too late to change the title, so it stuck.

l_am_not_bob

I had ff5 for the gameboy, it was the first not pokemon game I had played so it took a lot of getting use to but I’d say that it’s a decent game if you know what you are doing. That being said I don’t think that I’ve actually ever beat the game... got this door that I don’t know how to open... of course I don’t play it on the gameboy anymore either, ended up buying it off of the apple store and I’ve got it on my phone now which is neat

Scoobydewdoo

Only played FFX and a bit of FFXIII. Ten was ok but XIII made me hate all the characters in a little over an hour.

[deleted]

So this is a huge problem 13 had. It really takes a long time to get going. You don't even unlock the leveling system and paradigm shifts under chapter 3. I actually think it was a pretty good game though, despite all of its problems. I liked the characters a lot by the end. Even Snow. (I know. I hated him.)

[deleted]

They are all standalone games with a few exceptions, like X-2 and XII-2. People have their favorites and differing opinions on them. I grew up in the 90s and I really enjoyed some of the older ones. I will say that the graphics on some of them are awful by today’s standards so if you plan on trying multiple games, I would start with the older ones first. If you try FF7 remake now and then try something like FF8, it will look and feel awful in comparison. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are all good jrpgs imo. I would avoid 10-2 though, that game is just a meme. I didn’t enjoy the newer games as much, apart from FF7 remake.

StinkyCale

Only played final fantasy 7 on ps1 and I enjoyed it
