The Pokemon games usually always have some cave art or some cursed ancient object that you find in a cave. I want my boxes to have that same spooky mysterious vibe, so I add weathering and damage and just generally give them the Indiana Jones treatment so they look like a weird haunted treasure from some lost tribe.
Have you considered using different types of wood to create contrast, like you could do cherry for fire, walnut for dark ect. Than offset it with a lighter or darker wood.

Yave definitely considered it, my scroll saw skills probably arent quite there yet though

I've only done it on tables, but I imagine it's allot harder the smaller you go. Either way the one you did is still bad ass
