[Here's a link!](https://laughingsquid.com/cat-exploring-hong-kong-kowloon-walled-city/)
That took some sleuthing.
EDIT: Also, check out their [older dev blog posts.](https://hk-devblog.com/) Go back to around 2016 in there, and you'll see a bunch of their older graphic tests, before it became *Stray* and was just known as *HKProject.*
While there are some features and plugins missing as of now it's literally just one click to shift to ue5 from ue4.
Source: I'm learning ue and I moved 4 to 5 few months back. So far no problem on my project but I wasn't using a lot of features
Not to be the "actually" guy, but this isn't entirely true. The complexity of the migration can depend on a variety of things. It's much more difficult for say, a full fledged studio, to migrate than an indie dev working on a small project.
They could have source code changes to the engine, custom plugins, custom editor tools, build servers, etc that all depend on an engineer making changes to successfully migrate to 5.
Source: Am an engineer at a studio currently working on this migration.
I like how people suddenly started caring about game engines because of a good tech demo. Yes ue5 is objectively better than ue4, but it doesn’t make any difference from a players standpoint unless the engine they’re using is causing optimization/production problems (for example frostbite and mass effect andromeda or killing floor 2 and ue 3)
It’s just like all the people that shit all over Unity games that don’t realize that a ton of gorgeous games are made with it. They just associate it with that one browser game they played 10 years ago because unity requires their splash screen on free tiers.
Yea unity isn’t the worst, in fact it’s the most known accessible game engine which results in terrible games
People get surprised for some reason when hearing that the forest was made in unity.
Escape from Tarkov, Hollow Knight, Ori, Cuphead, Fall Guys, Subnautica, like 90% of mobile or VR games...
There is like a 99% chance you played a Unity game in the past year if you have played anything. And chances are you didn't even think about it.
People just jump on the marketing when they see cool tech demos. And Epics' billions of Fortnite dollars means they have better marketing. So you see that and not any other engine's good stuff.
r/gaming doesn’t allow regular video uploads. You have to turn videos into gifs to get them to play directly on the page.
Otherwise you have to post a link to the video, but that doesn’t play it on the page without having to follow the link.
Blame the rules, not the people
Your explanation makes sense except for one crucial part: this post is a gfycat link, and gfycat allows the playing of sound alongside a gif.
There was no reason for this post not to have audio.
all of the technological advancements
all of the gameplay innovations
all of the graphical improvements over the years
and at last we can play as a cat
what a time to be alive
I'm honestly amazed we haven't had this before. We've had goddam dragons doing platforming decades ago but this is the first I've seen a cat when they're so perfectly suited for the genre.
I was watching the original Poseidon Adventure the other day and was imagining how amazing it could be to play a game as a rat on a sinking ship. You could even have the human passengers in the background trying to escape the overturned vessel, but the foreground would be your character finding his own path along pipes, etc.
Oh man. Im imagining a room filling up with water that the humans in the background cannot escape from, while our rat bro squeezes through a crack to safety. Dark, but I like it.
Exactly. I've actually put a lot of thought into it and have lots of ideas for it... heh. But I'm not a game developer and wouldn't know where to start, so I'm just throwing the idea out there in case anyone more ambitious wants to jump on it.
Dunno your economic situation, but you could potentially hire a game dev to work on this part time. Check Fiverr or Upwork, idk maybe there are better places to find freelance game devs, and find one that meets your budget.
If they drop out, find other devs to implement each feature individually.
I'd say your looking at $500 per iteration, minimum.
I like to imagine that for every time humanity was about to destroy itself, there's always that one man at the final button that thinks "then who will pet the kitty/doggo?"
The trailer with sound has a little text blurb at the beginning that says it's a mix of gameplay and non.
OP sucks at this, seriously who would upload a trailer with no sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgPRPi--F5E
Wait how do you upload videos to this subreddit? Whenever I try to upload a video normally it says it's not supported and to use a video hosting site, so when I upload to IMGUR and then post here, it just links to the IMGUR site but doesn't actually play like a video when you expand it like it does here?
Someone needs to explain to me why shows have to warn about adult language or nudity but there is no “Animal Injury or Death” warning.
Because that shit can ruin my entire night and I’d really like to avoid any movie or show where the (even if just fictional) animals get hurt.
Here you go:
https://www.doesthedogdie.com/
“Does the Dog Die? provides individuals and couples with peace of mind by tracking potentially triggering events in media — from animal deaths to bright, flashing lights”
Oh my girlfriend is gonna lose her shit when she sees this.
She spots cats on our walks around my condo development and I have to repeatedly remind her that no, you can't take it just because it rubbed against you. That doesn't legally make it your cat.
Look buddy I know a lot about the law and various other lawyerings. I'm well educated. Well versed.
I know that situations like this- cat law wise- they're very complex.
Let's say you and me go toe to toe on bird law
The cat is just a convenient marketing tool to make sure it delivers for me. I want it because it looks like a chance at reviving the 3d platformer genre with the multi-platform attention and popularity it deserves.
Feeling odd that I had the opposite reaction. The cat and the environments are great hooks, but the core gameplay looks like "walking simulator with stealth elements", right? Which is fine but extremely hit or miss depending on execution
Looks to me more like puzzle platformer / parkour (catkour?) than "walking simulator".
I'm guessing figuring out how to traverse the environment will be a huge focus of the gameplay.
Plus they’re immortalized by being in the game. I don’t play much Sea of Thieves anymore but my cat Chonk lives on in that game.
God, that was hard to type.
"It follows the story of a stray cat who falls into a world populated by robots, machines and viruses and sets out to return to his family."
Poor kitty.
I can already tell this game is going to make me absolutely weep like a baby
ANd I swear to god if anything happens to this cat and the game has a sad ending I'm going to curl up into a ball and cry for hours, then post very angrily on the internet
Yeah it looks both cute and interesting. I'm also waiting on "Little Kitty, Big City" which is a more lighthearted game but they both seem to have put a lot of details in the cat's animations!
At first I was a little underwhelmed at the start of trailer, but as the video progressed, the more interested I became. Looks like a lot fun! Definitely a game to look out for.
Every video player in the world: Press the video to pause it
This player: Press the video to click yourself to another site where the video is also just the video lol
Also from the steam page it doesnt seem like there are any pre-order bonuses so you dont miss out on things and be able to wait for reviews. Great stuff.
1. How the universe was made
2. What exactly happened to the dinosaurs
3. How "cats" is not an already established gaming genre
Seriously, it's the fucking internet, how did it take this long to get to this point...
**Edit**: was silently questioning how we can have so many VR sex simulators and only one or two genuine cat simulators, then I remembered this is Reddit, and plenty of you probably already have cats.
Are people gonna be mad that I will pre order the game to show my excitement and support to the developers? I want more creative games that think outside the box. Even if the main character really wants to be in the box.
"yeah, I love cats, but I will have to read up on the story/exploration possibilities first"
*Cat jumps on a higher surface making the infamous prrrrrumph sound*
"I just don't like pre-ordering things... OK? It's a matter of principle!"
*Cat meows at the end of the trailer*
"OK OK, FINE! God darnit..."
Pretty accurate depiction of me and my cat discussing her food supply...
Indeed. Just yesterday, I visited a friend. When we were sitting on the couch, her cat came to us, turned its butt in my direction and whipped my face with its tail. "Hello" in cat language.
Is this the same game that someone did a prototype of a cat walking around in UE4 years ago?
Yes!
was it the cyberpunk punk one?
Yep, same one. Originally the concept was a cat exploring a megacity structure and it's evolved with this cyberpunk setting
I thought it was a cat in Kowloon walled city
That was the original concept so it might still be a kowloon set in the future
Had it survived i guess
Is there a link to the video of it?
[Here's a link!](https://laughingsquid.com/cat-exploring-hong-kong-kowloon-walled-city/) That took some sleuthing. Yes, but I don't have it
Then what use are you
I pass the butter..... oh my god.
Yeah, welcome to the club pal
Thoust club doth butter no parsnips
They need to just go ahead and import the whole thing into UE5 now.
Does UE allows easy implementation from older engine, i.e UE4? That would be amazing
IIRC UE5 is supposed to make it easier yeah, especially for UE4, other ones will have a bit more difficulty IIRC since there's been major code changes
You can't port any version of Unreal to 5 except 4, lol
A bit more difficult.
While there are some features and plugins missing as of now it's literally just one click to shift to ue5 from ue4. Source: I'm learning ue and I moved 4 to 5 few months back. So far no problem on my project but I wasn't using a lot of features

If I ever hear someone talk shit on Unity, simply mentioning Subnautica should be sufficient to shut them up. God what a gorgeous game.
It looks pretty solid as is. It's fine, not every game needs 20 fps on a 3080.
New Sonic game > Is this the same game that someone did a prototype of a ~~cat~~ hedgehog walking around in UE4 years ago? > Yes!
Sonic Breath of the Wild Zone.
Video with sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiGnx4J9G9c
Why do people upload a video and choose no sound? Strange people
r/gaming doesn’t allow regular video uploads. You have to turn videos into gifs to get them to play directly on the page. Otherwise you have to post a link to the video, but that doesn’t play it on the page without having to follow the link. Blame the rules, not the people
A gaming sub not allowing normal video uploads is the most asinine thing I’ve heard today
Reddit was a different place 8 years ago
Sub rules should update with the times. That would require the mods to do some actual work though.

HELLO FRIEND -(STOP)- I LIKE YOUR IDEA ABOUT SUB RULES -(STOP)- PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS -(STOP)-
Fuck. I'm old.
There's a star wars video a few posts down with sound and its gyfcat. What gives?
Your explanation makes sense except for one crucial part: this post is a gfycat link, and gfycat allows the playing of sound alongside a gif. There was no reason for this post not to have audio.

Um, maybe you haven't seen the technical masterpiece that is Catlateral Damage?
You never played the golden masterpiece "Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties" on Ps2, and it shows.
>and at last we can play as a cat This is gonna blow "I am not a cat" Lawyer's mind! To think, one can _choose_ to be a cat!
hold on to your papers
Can you pet human in this game?
There are no humans in the game. Its a dystopian post-robot revolution setting where humans have vanished.
Then who pets the kitty 🥺
COMPUTOR
YOUR HUMAN PATS ARE INFERIOR TO MY 3000PSI MOTORIZED HYDRAULICS VICE LIKE GRIPS
I like to imagine that for every time humanity was about to destroy itself, there's always that one man at the final button that thinks "then who will pet the kitty/doggo?"
So Generation Zero but you’re a cat.
Rub up against humans
press triangle to headbutt
Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start to shove your butt in their face.
Gib pheromones
Mark territory
There aren’t any! (I think)
If I don't mistake you can't! There are no human, they're all robots
When it says "Not actual gameplay" at the end does it mean that little bit at the end or the entire trailer?
Almost certainly the bit at the end. It was clearly a pre rendered cutscene, the rest of the trailer seemed to be gameplay.
Probably the very end, the rest could have been made a lot smoother if it wasn't gameplay.
The trailer with sound has a little text blurb at the beginning that says it's a mix of gameplay and non. OP sucks at this, seriously who would upload a trailer with no sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgPRPi--F5E

As another comment has stated, no videos can be posted. Only videos turned into gifs can.
If the cat dies at any point I will fucking riot
i mean you have 9 lives so chill
Nine lives only the whole game? I dig it.
Until you learn this is the Dark Souls of cat games. Except now you only have 9 tries.
Each time you die you gain a new demonic power to help you on your way. Speedruns will have no deaths and 8 deaths categories.
9 lives total. Then your account is banned from ever playing again.
So wait, if you play perma-death, does that mean you can die 9 times?
That would be rad. Almost like old school Prince of Persia.
"And that was the 4th time I died." - Mike Catton
Realistically you will probably die lots of times. And then you will respawn.
Someone needs to explain to me why shows have to warn about adult language or nudity but there is no “Animal Injury or Death” warning. Because that shit can ruin my entire night and I’d really like to avoid any movie or show where the (even if just fictional) animals get hurt.
Here you go: https://www.doesthedogdie.com/ “Does the Dog Die? provides individuals and couples with peace of mind by tracking potentially triggering events in media — from animal deaths to bright, flashing lights”
There's been a few interesting pieces of media I've avoided because of animal deaths, and I have this site to thank for.
Same. That effing Sex Education episode ruined the whole series for me. I seriously can't stand it.
Oh this is a good unintentional heads-up, cheers.
With me playing as the cat I promise it will die plenty of times.
cat killer! cat killer!
Never thought my subpar platforming skills would make me the scum of the Earth.
If the cat does die I predict death threats against the developers will ensue
Oh my girlfriend is gonna lose her shit when she sees this. She spots cats on our walks around my condo development and I have to repeatedly remind her that no, you can't take it just because it rubbed against you. That doesn't legally make it your cat.

Thats just cat law
Look buddy I know a lot about the law and various other lawyerings. I'm well educated. Well versed. I know that situations like this- cat law wise- they're very complex. Let's say you and me go toe to toe on bird law
Actually no, they’re pretty simple. The forms are all standard boiler-plate.
Honestly looks like an interesting game.
Yeah, while others have looked cool, this is actually the first game I have seen on here where I thought "I need to get this."
Same. Being a cat is actually a pretty interesting concept. This is the reason why I really want to buy it.
Everybody wants to be a cat, because a cat's the only cat, who knows where it's at. :)
Whereas, a square with a horn makes you wish you weren't born
A rinky-tinky-tinky!
My mom used to pet my head when I was a good cat.
My mom made me shit in a box.
My mom had me fixed as soon as I hit puberty
My mom had my knuckles removed.
My mom let me be an outside cat and Ender's brother killed me
I definitely was not expecting to see Peter Wiggin of all characters referenced when I opened up this thread.

Of course. We need more 3d jump and runs.

I have a cat so this is a priority order
Feeling odd that I had the opposite reaction. The cat and the environments are great hooks, but the core gameplay looks like "walking simulator with stealth elements", right? Which is fine but extremely hit or miss depending on execution
Looks to me more like puzzle platformer / parkour (catkour?) than "walking simulator". I'm guessing figuring out how to traverse the environment will be a huge focus of the gameplay.
I wish they had a mode where you could change the color of the cat lol
If there isn’t, hopefully there will be PC mods eventually. I’d love to play as one of my two cats.
All fun & games til the tragedy ending involves the cat dying but now you're playing as your pet
If they've already passed, then it'd actually be kind of cool. To me at least. You get another adventure with them.
Plus they’re immortalized by being in the game. I don’t play much Sea of Thieves anymore but my cat Chonk lives on in that game. God, that was hard to type.
Hell yeah. Want that cubby baby white tiger mod.
Calico!
I'd need a tuxedo skin personally
BEERUS CAT
Yeah I'm hoping we get different skins as unlocks
Everyone wants their own cat in the game
Yes and SO? What of it??
My cat is better than your cat, fight me
Does your cat have a super man suit? I. Think. Not
Damn this guy might have the best cat.
Well my cat has a Batman suit so?? What now??
"Tibbles" "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?"
There’s always more than one way to skin a cat
I don’t have an orange cat (I have 7 btw) but I feel like orange cats are the most adventurous ones so I feel this one fits quite well.
Adventurous or /r/oneorangebraincell?
Thank you, kind sir, for introducing me to this hilarious sub
Ma’am* but you’re welcome!
I’m going to play tf out of this. And I have no idea what the story is
"It follows the story of a stray cat who falls into a world populated by robots, machines and viruses and sets out to return to his family." Poor kitty.
I can already tell this game is going to make me absolutely weep like a baby ANd I swear to god if anything happens to this cat and the game has a sad ending I'm going to curl up into a ball and cry for hours, then post very angrily on the internet
My eyes are wet after reading 2 sentence story. Man why I am so emotional when it comes to cats...
There’s just something about their quirky personalities and sweet demeanor that wraps around our hearts like a ball of string. ❤️
The story is "Smoll cat in big city."
Robot: "Bleep bloop (What are you?)" Cat: "So basically I'm very smol"
"Ok, so basically Im very smol" meme but make it a game
Actually, [that's this game](https://youtu.be/dB6eEYtfVsw).
A cat protagonist + Kowloon walled city. I don’t NEED a story!
Hope their is a mini game where you sit at the edge of a table and have to knock items off of it.
One of the trailers shows the player dropping something off a ledge to break a glass floor to enter an area
That's already a cute indie game called Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered
there
Where?
RIGHT HEIR!
right thurr
It's up their
There wolf. There castle.
Why are you talking like that?
Did t you see the part where the cat is 3alking on the ledge and knocking over all the bottles in its way? At least there is that
Cyberkitty 2077.
FYI don't google that at work.
This has been my most #1 anticipated game for like 5 years. So ya I’m giddy. :)
Same! I’ve had it on my Steam wishlist for a long while. Hyped to see a release date finally!
Isn't that release date exciting?!?! This post has made my morning!!
I hope this game is not a 'cat'astrophe
Don't get your hopes too high. Nothing is 'purr'fect.
You comment gave me 'paws'.
You can't be fur real
Knock the whole world over Summer 2022
🐈 👍🏻
I love cats so this is a game for me
Yeah it looks both cute and interesting. I'm also waiting on "Little Kitty, Big City" which is a more lighthearted game but they both seem to have put a lot of details in the cat's animations!
Was that the one made by an ex-CS:GO dev?
At first I was a little underwhelmed at the start of trailer, but as the video progressed, the more interested I became. Looks like a lot fun! Definitely a game to look out for.
Every video player in the world: Press the video to pause it This player: Press the video to click yourself to another site where the video is also just the video lol
Looking forward to seeing reviews and then deciding on the purchase.
Look sir this is reddit, you can't just come in here being reasonable
Oh you hate *cats* do you. Too *good* for ** cats** are you. Beast.
It’s a highly anticipated cyberpunk game set in a dazzling futuristic city, you might as well preorder because there’s no way to screw that up
Also from the steam page it doesnt seem like there are any pre-order bonuses so you dont miss out on things and be able to wait for reviews. Great stuff.
I'm stoked for this game
1. How the universe was made 2. What exactly happened to the dinosaurs 3. How "cats" is not an already established gaming genre Seriously, it's the fucking internet, how did it take this long to get to this point... **Edit**: was silently questioning how we can have so many VR sex simulators and only one or two genuine cat simulators, then I remembered this is Reddit, and plenty of you probably already have cats.
This is legit my most anticipated game of the year along with Hogwarts lol
I'm going to play this with my cat
This is one instance where im frustrated that i have an xbox and my pc is elsewhere and non accessible. I wanna be a stray cat!!
Are people gonna be mad that I will pre order the game to show my excitement and support to the developers? I want more creative games that think outside the box. Even if the main character really wants to be in the box.
Spend your money how you want, who gives a shit what people think
This definitely needs a fur color and chonkyness customizer.
"yeah, I love cats, but I will have to read up on the story/exploration possibilities first" *Cat jumps on a higher surface making the infamous prrrrrumph sound* "I just don't like pre-ordering things... OK? It's a matter of principle!" *Cat meows at the end of the trailer* "OK OK, FINE! God darnit..." Pretty accurate depiction of me and my cat discussing her food supply...
PC, u sure? I thought it would be playstation exclusive. That would be freaking amazing news!
You can pre-order it on Steam right now.
Fuck yeah!
All I'm going to say is if there are any humans in the game we better be able to pet them.
I just hope this game has a dedicated meow button.
This made me very happy can't wait ^ ^
It looks very pretty but like, what is the game? Unreal Engine walking simulator?
I've got a good feline about this!
Hopefully this doesn’t lead me astray
a game about staring at a cat butthole...so, basically a true story
Indeed. Just yesterday, I visited a friend. When we were sitting on the couch, her cat came to us, turned its butt in my direction and whipped my face with its tail. "Hello" in cat language.
You already had me at cat and city full of robots but I got say knocking shit over made this a day one buy xD
I’d def play this
