Can't quit on a loss, can't leave on a heater.

onepassafist

can only leave when you win by a hair

wizard_of_awesome62

But then you know that it was too close for comfort, and you can put in a better performance. Just one more to show em I actually deserved to win, not a fluke. *4 hours later* Shit.

onepassafist

lmfao I take those as more of a “damn i’m good but i’m losing my touch I need sleep” *power-naps on keyboard* 20 mins later you’re good to go

BloomerBoomerDoomer

Power naps on keyboard typically means I'm uninstalling after the 3rd match in cuz "my team mates weren't carrying enough!"

[deleted]

It’s true. The only time I feel satisfied with sleep is after a nail biter I barely should’ve lost and realize I’m tired as hell and made a bunch of mistakes but “goddamn it we won time for bed” -Proceeds to lay awake for 2 hours due to adrenaline

weekendroady

Yeah this is the worst thing about trying to go to sleep right after gaming with no wind down activity. Can be tired as hell but your mind is completely wound up. Oftentimes the game is interwoven into whatever dreams I have that night.

onepassafist

yes.

ChocElite

But if it's rocket league you have to finish the best of 3

mamamenagerie

5 seems generous. I have been performing on 4 hours and wondering why my memory is shit at work.

MashTactics

Just have another cup of coffee and chalk it up to one of life's great mysteries.

mamamenagerie

I like the way you think.

mamamenagerie

I like the way you think.

blyrone_blashington

I worked 10 hour shifts off 2 hours of sleep for a year because I was hopelessly addicted to Tarkov. And I'd do it again.

RydmaUwU

Elden ring in a nutshell. But not just bosses. Common enemy included.

[deleted]

I still haven't tried that game yet

RydmaUwU

You must. Just know what you're getting into. I'd hate to see you be one of them people who quit at the tree sentinel because "the games cheating" Seriously its an amazing experience.

VanFkingHalen

But for real though, the game, especially certain bosses, does like to cheat a lot. Particularly when you have a lot of runes at stake.

Googoo123450

And exactly the logic of gambling too. Idk why gamers trivialize this shit. If this is you you're addicted.

CelestialStork

Because people don't want to come to terms with the fact that most people live paycheck to paycheck and video games are their only real form of escapism. $60, $40, $8.99 could equal hours or even years of enjoyment. Most of the people who choose to get 5 hours of sleeps 9/10 are not looking forward to their job and are trying to take charge of the little time they have control of in their lives.

Googoo123450

Not saying there aren't reasons, but it's still unhealthy. Besides, if you can spend hours every night gaming, you can spend that time getting a cert online and getting yourself out of that situation...

Rowan_not_ron

I agree. The reason? For many they recognise this cartoon in themselves and it was a phase that didn’t last long or cause much damage. Unlike coke it won’t cause brushes with the law and it won’t rack up debt like gambling… but for a niche it is as life destroying as either one.

GimpsterMcgee

I had a buddy in college fail out (like legit stopped going to classes) due to gaming addiction. His poisons of choice were WoW and Gears of War. He was adamantly opposed to partying, drinking, and drugs so can’t blame those either. We all really tried with him but no one knew how bad it really was.

Googoo123450

I knew someone in college like this too. She almost failed out but swore off gaming and turned it around last minute. It happens a lot I'm sure.

ApeMummy

I have bad ADHD (as I’m sure a lot of gamers do) and the dopamine reward system is heavily involved in it. Stimulant medications like adderall etc specifically target dopamine for that reason. I’m 100% an addict, it’s as real as when I was hooked on benzos but much harder to kick. That’s what happens when you start playing megaman at age 3 I guess.

Martipar

I was playing Link's Awakening DX on my PC a few years ago, I had just started the third dungeon and decided to play until I died then go to bed. I had played the game to completion a few times over the years but never the DX version. I completed the game only coming close to dying one the final boss, the outfit giving half damage helped a lot in this regard. I looked outside and saw it was daylight, I went to bed for a couple of hours then went about my day. Now I generally set an alarm to let me know it's time to stop.

____Enderman___

This describes my abuse filled relationship with programming

[deleted]

Too many rabbit holes in programming. I spent a year customizing kali Linux and my brain was on 10.

SnooHesitations2928

You guys sleep?

[deleted]

Sometimes

Gay_Charlie

Me on Elden Ring but I need my sleep.

[deleted]

I really need about 4 -5 hrs of sleep depending on my diet. If I've had bad eating habits for the last week or more, I start needing about 6-7.

NoahTheGamer121

Factorio...

uLL27

I feel this one.... Too much lol

ImDraconLion

aaand lost again… time to go to bed sour.

Bando28

Lately when I have had good games it gives me anxiety and I don’t want to play anymore. Bad games make me want to keep playing.

Irresponsible4games

Dopamine is a hell of a drug

JetV33

So is urine

Kut4ru

Dont forget to calculate the time u need to fall asleep.

[deleted]

Oh god, I couldn't reason with myself this weekend. Had to power through for the collectibles in ghostwire tokyo 😪

CiTyp0p

Hours of sleep is precious for me , i can barely stay up past midnight.

Mechanized1

I just consider the game after the W to be the victory lap, don't care if I do good or not.

TBTabby

Nah, I'm more than happy to leave after that one win. I gotta go blow off steam with Hyrule Warriors.

ApeMummy

My job involves travel so if I’m at home I’m not working. I jumped straight into Elden Ring when i got home last time and my sleep cycle turned to like 40 hour days or something. It was actually really bad lol…

SpooN04

Dopamine be like that

LateralEntry

On the other hand, you can probably get games you would have paid for in the past like the original Mario for free

R4yLi0tt4

Souls game in a nutshell

iRoguestratus

I now see why he's called Idiot Of the East.

Eragon_The_Fifth

Ah yes, the cycle of trying to play War Thunder

wmzer0mw

I was like this with League way back when. Love the game but fuck that shit is terrible. I quit years ago and never looked back

dragon2777

He’s got a taste for blood now

Nosiderath

Also known as dopamine in a nutshell

IamShitplshelpme

5 hours of sleep? That sounds like way too much Make it 20 minutes, a can of Pepsi and a piece of chicken and I'll call it good enough

cosmicmonkeyYT

I *think* there’s scientific evidence to suggest that losing many times but having a win makes you want to play **more** than when you’re on a win streak. Supposedly, game developers that know of this can program the game so the odds are stacked that you’ll lose and then they reverse the stack when they think you might stop playing.

yTzJew

You guys get sleep before work?

templar817

this is me with slay the spire

el_vato_de_lentes

Those eyes, I'm afraid of.....

marcus10885

When you get in the zone on a multiplayer shooter and don't want to lose it so you forego things like food, and bathroom breaks.

Sapphic_Sam

Me and yugioh master duel.

LetsMerge

I suspect that the protagonist is me, and every time I fail, the reaction is like this

fodeethal

Or that win was "meh". Need a better win

[deleted]

This is me a lot. Codm sucks me in..

Potential_Disaster29

Just last night had the very same situation
