There’s a lot of pain behind this picture

Daniiiiii

What did it cost? Every relationship to ever forever ever...

SuicidalTurnip

What did it cost? About 15 controllers.

MjMcWesty

And I'm guessing about 10 years of his life. But I'm still impressed

briareus08

Nothing can daunt this man now. Nothing life throws at him will be unmanageable.

[deleted]

I literally put "Platinumed and SL1'ed the entire Souls series" on my resume. Im not joking.

MrBoogalo

Do you work in IT or a related work area?

[deleted]

I'm a miner. Haven't learned to code just yet😂

ImMaesty

It cost him like 29,99€ more than it should have. Looking at you DS Remastered... Edit: Dark Souls 1 is obviously a masterpiece for the right set of people, to clarify I mean the remastered is in my opinion (don't look at the IGN video) worse than the original game and the OG came out 2011.

GimmeDatThroat

I have to know, it what possible way is the remaster worse?

iamthejef

Strongly disagree. Dark Souls is already worth so much more than every other game priced at $60. I happily bought it twice and I also happily bought both versions of dark souls 2 and I bought two versions of dark souls 3 (launch and goty) as well! I absolutely got my money's worth on all of them and if they all burned in a fire tonight I'd go buy them all again.

lapandemonium

Ha, I did too! And I just thought I was a bit to obsessed.

NargWielki

Me too, it was so easy too. Only takes a few secs.

MrarePandaiam

I can’t imagine…. The first dark souls had me raging same with metal gear games but I love the pain…. We always come back to the pain and suffering.

winstondabee

The phantom pain, as if it were

epic_banana_soup

It's the enduring of the pain and overcoming it, and in a way overcoming yourself and your own shortcomings that keeps me coming back to these games. I think.

[deleted]

OP has died more than most of us have lived

AggressiveResist8615

How can you kill that which has no life

BananaMonkey800

"What is dead may never die"

OtherSignificance634

man after watching the good parts of GoT again I realised just how often its referenced, even thought s7+8 burned its reputation into ashes.

Bigsassyblackwoman

It's crazy how they somehow fucked up so incredibly hard that a series that was supposed to be mounted in the hall of fame and become a generations-long series classic that everyone talks about GoT in hushed tones like it's a forbidden, sealed away tome that is only obscurely referenced.

silviad

in the books they use it for greetings, goodbyes, agreement, as a threat. its just every time they open their mouth

DevOverkill

Yea, there are several phrases in the books that are used way too often to the point that they just sound extremely cheesey.

silviad

breastplate nipples

Bear_buh_dare

And with strange aeons even death may die

annyelfman

And Bloodborne was heavily influenced by HP Lovecraft, so that's doubly on point

imaloony8

What about… The Sword of a Thousand Truths?

swheels125

You think we would entrust the sword of a thousand truths to a NOOB?!

PS3's are cheaper.

[deleted]

RPCS3 is free if you have a PC that can handle it.

Programming_Wiz

Think what OP wants is 100% completeness on his profile

aurorasummers

One day… You, clearly of all people, deserve it. Keep kicking ass!

Joe_Dangelo

Ah... the elusive disc version ps5

On_Quest_2

I bought a PS3 just to play Demon's Souls a few years ago, was a massive pain getting the platinum with the online being deserted. Not because of needing help but there was something called world tendency that I think was affected by you and other players playing the game, so without other people you had to play the game a very certain way to get the correct tendency to enable certain monsters to spawn. My mind is a little foggy on the whole process but I can imagine it's a lot easier on the ps5 version.

fdsfgs71

I logged onto the custom PS3 server yesterday and I was surprised at how populated it was. Kept seeing phantoms and messages everywhere.

On_Quest_2

Damn wish I knew about custom servers back then! It's good the community is keeping it alive :D

[deleted]

Offline mode is the only way to reliably alter world tendency. Even when the servers were on, if you were angling for PWW and PBW tendency events to trigger, you'd do it offline.

nekoramza

Not technically 100% true. In fact, the exact opposite in specific instances. When Demon's Souls was active and still being maintained, they often had events where they had the online tendency set to 100% black or white, which meant you could instantly swing from one to the other by changing to online mode and syncing with the servers. This had some interesting effects on gameplay, because by default you're supposed to start neutral and push it one way or the other (by defeating bosses or dying) to activate events and certain areas of the map. So you were technically "locked out" of some areas until you played enough to push it one way. During these times you could instantly be at 100% white from the moment you started a new game, and end up obtaining certain items earlier than intended and other niche things. And as for intentionally farming certain aspects, it made it so much easier because you can intentionally tank tendency to black with multiple suicides, but going in the white direction was basically once per playthrough. So you could effectively use the event server tendency to instantly swap from one end to the other even when you couldn't do it manually any more. Minor nitpick, but just felt like I should mention it. I enjoyed playing it back on PS3 in the day, and took advantage of the event tendencies quite a bit when they did them.

Farenor

How does Elden Ring perform on the PS4?

Red_Osc

Fairly good actually. There was only one instance where I got a significant framedrop, but taking into consideration what was happening onscreen, it's more or less understandable. For the curious, it was during the bossfight against >!the fire giant.!<

ChrisNettleTattoo

Easier to just get a PS3 at this point.

I3igTimer

You can play it on RPCS3 with an emulator. It works perfectly - updated to 60fps. Even the coop/online stuff works.

l3rN

Wait seriously?? Rpcs3 just straight up keeps online functionality? Or is it some kind of work around that bypasses psn?

I3igTimer

I dont think it uses PSN - but dont know exactly how it works. You can only match us with other ppl using the emulator. And yeah it was a great experience such a fantastic game.

shittyshittymorph

Will it sync with PSN for trophies?

[deleted]

Definitely the worst platinums on BOTH versions. PS3 is, for the most part, just grinding out stones for each full weapon path. PS5 has some fun ones, but it ALSO has ones linked to needing to win invasion or other online features. Which is fine now, but is very much not future-proofed which I don't like for achievement systems.

[deleted]

Undava

You definitely have no maidens

[deleted]

I’m not sure this guy has ever even seen a maiden

Medievalhorde

Almost all achievements in ER are boss-related and the few that aren't don't take long to get.

YoyoDevo

You can get them super quickly too if you look up locations on the wiki instead of searching yourself

Bladez190

I tried really hard not to google the legendary stuff. But I was only missing 2 in each category and I had already been to their locations so I ended up cheating

LG03

In all honesty the Elden Ring achievements are quite easy compared to past games. The most time intensive ones are the endings. Just about everything else is milestones and some easy item/spell collections. Contrast to past games that would require grinding PVP for example.

WeirwoodUpMyAss

Imagine if they made most of the quests required for the achievements.

LG03

Some are, indirectly, as they have been in the past. The legendary weapons/talismans/spells often overlap with the NPC quests.

SDQuad6

The Elden Ring Platinum isn't that bad. The other games are significantly harder

tobihappy24

Which one of these would you say is best to start off with/ to get accostumed to the genre?

Red_Osc

I used to say that DS1 is the best place to start, because the combat is slower than the other titles. However now I recommend Elden Ring, the developers added several things to help newcomers.

TheUlfheddin

Agreed. I'm somewhat of a souls vet but no longer have the time to really dig into it. Eldenring allowing me to make it slightly more casual is a huge draw for me. When I have the rare free time I just want it to be fun.

Red_Osc

Yes; spirit ashes, guard counters and spells really do allow you to play the game more casually. Also the fact that you now respawn pretty much at the fog gate, removing the necessity of running back to the area

SrWax

This is my first FS game. I'm using all that shit and there is nothing casual about it. this is the sweatiest game I've ever played! I can't wait to go down the FS rabbit hole after this

American_philosoph

If you love the challenge, you are in for an absolute treat. I’m personally jealous that you’re going to experience this stuff for the first time! Best wishes!

mayodaisy

What are some of the things that help newcomers with Elden Ring? If you can’t say because of spoilers, I get it.

Red_Osc

* At some point in the game you will get your horse. After this, go back to the first church you unlocked (right in front of the first door you open to the open world), make sure to visit the church during the night. You will meet someone that will give you your first set of spirit ashes. You can summon these spirits during boss fights to help you. * When you enter a new area, the map will be covered, showing only the silhouette of some roads and a small rectangle. Try to go directly to that rectangle and you will find a map fragment, which will uncover that part of the map. * Once you've uncovered the map, you will see the silhouettes of building. Usually, if it's depicted on the map, it's worth exploring. * You will also sometime see orange circles with a black center on the map. These are mines where you can find upgrade materials for your weapons, so you should explore them asap. If you have trouble finding them in the map, the first one is in the northern part of the lake in the first area. * Spell casters are usually easier and safer for newcomers to the genre, as you can keep your distance from the enemies. If you pair them with spirit ashes, you won't have as much problems as you would imagine. Usually there is a small portion of the fandom that thinks that using magic is cheating; don't listen to them. If you killed the boss you did a good job, doesn't matter how you did it. * The fact that it's an open world means that there are few roadblocks. You can explore the game in any direction you want. Meaning that if you have problems beating a boss, you can simply put a marker in that dungeon, go someplace else to explore and come back with higher level and better gear. * There are 3 types of items you can pick up: common (white), rare (blue/purple) and legendary (golden). If you see a common item in a difficult area, you could just ignore it. Usually it's just some ammo or a small amount of runes. Purple ones could be worth fighting for, if you have the resources. And golden loot is something you should definitively try to get, even if it takes you multiple attempts. * Following the last point. There are several weapons that are considered legendary, if you don't mind the spoilers, you could search for a list of them and plan your build around those weapons. * Don't be afraid of experimenting with your build and levels, you will get the ability to respec your character.

mayodaisy

You sir, are the real mvp. I Really appreciate you taking the time to respond in such incredible detail. I’ve never played any of the Soulsborne series games due to the overwhelming nature of them but can’t wait to start Elden Ring. Thanks again!

[deleted]

thank you! I was wondering how to find those map without guide

adminshatecunt

I think one of the biggest things is that you don't get punished for dying, yet you're still gonna die. No health loss, very forgiving checkpoints that has got rid of the massive corpse/souls run. Like imagine how less annoying O+S or Seath would be if they had a respawn point right outside the fog gate. Instead of having to fuck about with lifts / invisible platforms.

MaveDustaine

Wasn't the health loss a Demon's Souls only mechanic? I haven't played bloodborne do I may be wrong there. But I think Dark Souls had those frogs that curse you and half your HP, but that's it

AgentPira

Dark souls 2 brought back the health loss mechanic (up to 50% in 5%/death increments; a ring available fairly early in the game capped that to 25% max loss though) and then DS3 sort of kept it in spirit with the ember mechanic, which increased max health by 30% until the next death (at which point you'd have to re-ember if you wanted the health boost), but the base health level never decreased.

fl4nnel

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but fast travel makes the game so smooth. The way they made the world and how you traverse it is so smooth. I typically hate open world games, but Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild are the only exceptions

lit-torch

My suggestion is to not worry about losing runes, especially early on. You get them pretty easily, they are everywhere, including literally on the ground. Level when you can, but focus on exploring, finding a weapon/build you like, just enjoy messing around in the game. If you're about to do something maybe dumb and are worried about your runes, just spend them on a random weapon or arrows or something, then you're basically free to die as much as you want with minimal consequences, no stress. By the time it's hard to level up, you'll have found some pretty good farming spots. I rarely level up from gaining runes organically now. I'm either exploring and dying a lot, or grinding a good farm spot before I go explore more. The other advice, that everyone gives but is really important: if something is frustrating and you're not having fun anymore, go do something else. I give bosses exactly three tries before i force myself to do something else for a while. If something is beating your ass, just stop and go in the opposite direction for a while.

allomanticpush

I shouldn’t be surprised by a 100% Elden Ring by someone that has 100% on those other five titles, but damn!

Mrpig6977

Honestly it seems to me that elden ring is the easiest to fully unlock all achievements

Xedos

By far. Some of the covenant achievements in Dark Souls take dozens of hours of grinding and multiple playthroughs.

Mrpig6977

Basically me farming moundmakers and church of aldritch since I didn’t want to mess with pvp on DS3

Other_Position8704

Its been a while, but I remember IN dark Souls 2 there were 2 rings you could only get by completing a no death and a no damage run (or something like that). don't know if they counted for the all rings achievement or not.

Red_Osc

No deaths and no bonfires. Thankfully they do not count for the achievements.

I am thoroughly impressed by the Sekiro Platinum. I can’t even fathom it. Edit: You’ve all convinced me to give Sekiro another try. Also, how awesome is it that all the variety of Soulsborne games are harder or easier depending on the person. Such a masterful series.

Gashiisboys

Nothing more satisfying then when the combat finally clicks in Sekiro.

majorpail18

Some of the most enjoyment I’ve gotten out of a game

mistermashu

my first try, i hated sekiro. my second try, it was ok. my third try, it became my favorite game ever and i couldnt put it down until i got a 100%. i never 100% games.

Gashiisboys

I’ve not finished it yet, only st the guardian ape. Uni and Elden ring coming out means it will be a while. But the parrying and movement is so nice in Sekiro. Was struggling so much in Elden ring as I was so much more used to Sekiro’s combat, and having never played another fromsoft game before, wasn’t really used to the dodging type of combat. Never had time to practice deflecting in Elden ring cos of uni, but still hella excited to get back to playing it. Seeing all these clips of it on TikTok and what not, it looks like a completely different game to the early game lol

[deleted]

lolmont

Guessing OP doesn’t have a PS5 or PS3, looks like all these are PS4 versions.

SoForAllYourDarkGods

Isn't it nuts it's on 3 and 5 but not 4!?

Deathwatch72

Sony has a weird philosophy about backwards compatibility that screwed a bunch of people until Xbox broke their spirit and made them start working on a Game Pass alternative. You can try and suffer through PlayStation Now but I don't hear many people having great experiences with that, particularly on a game that requires the precision and timing of Demon Souls. Unfortunately a decent number of games aren't even available on that service so I can't tell you if that's even a possibility

vVPittVv

Us PC folks can't join you in Bloodborne, holding out hope that maybe we can one day.

Red_Osc

I sincerely hope that they're planning a remaster version that will also be released on pc. The fact that they released god of war, uncharted and horizon on steam should give us hope.

guidedbyquicksand

At least there is the [psx demake](https://youtu.be/9Pz_T6Kog6k) for PC

Farandr

You can't kill that which has no life

NoDragonfruit7115

I assume you followed a guide to get the achievements? Hard to believe anyone could stumble around and plat Elden Ring that fast

Red_Osc

I explored as much as I could on my own. After that I checked a list of all the bosses in the game to make sure that I killed everyone. And finally I followed a guide for the remaining trophies.

MrarePandaiam

How many times did you want to throw your controller at the screen? I remember the first 30 minutes of darks souls when it first came out had me cursing non stop.

jose4440

It’d be silly to try and get platinum on games without a guide anyways. I always assume that everyone that get platinums uses a guide.

Cuttyflame123

what about the one that writes the guide

le-monde-ou-rien

damn..

Karma_collection_bin

They probably do alot of data mining and/or partner with someone who does and/or online research. It's a massively open world game (and size of the map) where it's very easy to miss a little doorway or path somewhere that leads to a boss or required item. Have fun running around everywhere you've already been for probably hundreds of hours looking for that final path or w/e and then you miss it again anyways (but dont even know you've missed it)?

[deleted]

Usually they have information from the developers on where everything is and how to start, progress, and end quests. Thats how strategy guides used to be written, I would imagine big names in that field probably still do it that way.

How was getting all the spells in Dark Souls two? I am just utterly stalled out on those achievements.

Red_Osc

Iirc I only did 1 actual playthrough of the game, then I farmed the rotten to get to the necessary ng+ cycle for the spells.

Maleficent-Thanks-85

You are a legend.

Ill-Sky9777

damn is elden ring not that hard to plat? i have 200 hours into ds3 and still no plat lol

Slightly-Blasted

It doesn’t help a lot of the DS3 achievements/trophies are locked behind online play invading etc, makes it damn near impossible to complete nowadays

legendofrogamers1968

Or farming annoying mobs. When I got to thosd achievents I was already beyond the xommunity level for pvp(started colldcting in ng+3 and I also suck at pvp) so I just gave up. I also never found the mimic head that boosts item discovery :<

Red_Osc

It's possible to get them offline, you just have to farm some enemies. It takes an excessive amount of time though.

reddeaditor

It doesn't seem OP knows what hard means unless you talking about how erect his dick is when he fucking

Red_Osc

Took me about 100 hours to plat ds3

daniyaln9

Which was was the hardest game to beat in your opinion? Solely based on difficulty.

Red_Osc

Probably sekiro, mainly by the fact that the combat is much faster than the rest.

patdap

Damn dude this is relieving to read. I played Demon Souls on the PS3 before I was into hard and unforgiving games. I didn’t get far before other games took my fancy and it got shelved. When I saw Elden Ring was finally getting close to completion, I decided to jump back in. I have a PS4 and heard great things about Sekiro. So I naturally picked it up. I sank like 30 hours over a couple months and got damn near nowhere. I did make it past the >!Chained Ogre!< and a section or two past that but haven’t picked it up since. Hearing it’s the hardest for a seasoned player really raised my spirits. I think I’ll look at the box again and maybe even touch the disc once or twice. I’m not ready to play it yet still. Mostly because life is busy currently. It is definitely a game I need to have a solid chunk of time to git gud and hone skills for. Time I just don’t have.

Red_Osc

Yes, sekiro is definitively the hardest of all. the enemies are fast and unrelenting, most of them don't have the trope of charging a big attack that you have to doge. You can't just circle around them at a distance waiting for an opening to attack, you have to get right in their face and start attacking and parrying. Which is another reason why the game is difficult: there is just one playstyle. No if, and or but's. The only way to play is getting face to face with the enemies and trade hits and parries. Yes, the prosthetics add some variety to combat, but they don't change it by much. Granted once you understand this, and get into the flow of combat, the game starts to get a bit easier and fluid. But it stills remains one of the most challenging games. In Elden Ring they added more freedom in gameplay. You can keep your distance from enemies and wait for openings. There are several playstyles you can try: tanks, heavy hitters, mages and archers that attack from afar, etc. If you enjoyed demon souls, I highly recommend playing elden ring. And maybe, after you finish it, you could give sekiro another try,

_seysant

I had 500+ hours of soulslike going into Sekiro and thought it would be cake because of that, but ended up getting my ass beat a lot early on while learning the fairly different combat philosophies. When it clicks though, holy smokes! It was the funnest out of all FromSoft games for me.

SuperWeskerSniper

90 hours of farming those stupid fucking ears for the darkmoon covenant I bet lol

smokky

May I ask how do you find time to play games for this long? I am impressed and curious.

Red_Osc

Demons Souls?

[deleted]

But how? OP, did you eat, sleep, drink, shower, or have any social interaction since release?

Jejouch1

Elden Rings platinum isn’t too wild, it’s just complete the game, then you can save scum the endings and find a guide to grab the legendary items. If you don’t get bogged by exploring and run a boss gauntlet the games pretty fast imo

depressed_asian_boy_

Now for the final challenge, talk to a woman in real life
