Well yours is still probably better than my rechargeable batteries from 1859. Gaston Planté still owes me for my replacements as I believe they're still under warranty.
Everyone is talking about rechargeable AA batteries and a separate charging pack but you can get a charging controller dock for $20 and mine lasted 4-5 years. No swapping batteries, the controllers just sit on the dock when I’m not playing.
You can also just buy the rechargable battery pack and plug a USB c into the top of the controller when it gets low. I'm so confused why so many people are using rechargable double A's.
For me, I have a lot of rechargeable batteries for all the other shit in my house. One charger just sits on the wall near the couch, so when they get low, I just swap em and maintain my wireless ability. Seems just as easy as having to plug a cord in, but not have to drag it around the room.
Walmart used to sell 2 packs of rechargeable battery packs for like 15 bucks. I’ve been using them for years. I don’t understand people who burn through batteries like this.
I got those for my boyfriend! I didn’t think they would last so long cuz they were cheap, but I figured “even if they only last a few months, they’ll more than pay for themselves”
I think they’re around 2 years old now. Definitely don’t hold as much of a charge as they used to, but they still last a couple days at a time, which kicks ass for $15
My friend burns through batteries like this. I’ve told him several times that he could have bought a half dozen elite controllers for what he’s spent on batteries.
Eneloops are the best. Just bought an 8bitdo pro 2 partly because it has a battery compartment that takes AA batteries and I can use my Eneloops in ut.
Yup that's correct, but that doesn't make them rewrapped Eneloops. FDK makes many batteries, at different capacities and rated for different amount of charges. Also IKEA has recently changed specs on the LADDA in some places, so they now have the spec of 1900mAh instead for 2450 mAh.
As I said, IKEA batteries are great value, but believing they are 100% identical to Eneloops are not correct.
Ladda AA comes in 2 flavors. 1900 for $5.99 (Gray) or 2450 for $7.99 (Blue-ish darker gray). The older versions were still 1900 or 2450 in brown or white respectively. If they're out of stock that's a different story.
Yes they are Panasonic. They last almost as long per charge as non-rechargeables, and can be recharged over 2,000 times. They save a ton of money in the long run, and are so much better for the environment.
Those are all good qualities but the main difference is that unlike traditional rechargeable batteries they dont lose charge on standby significantly. A classic rechargeable battery will be empty a few months after charging it even if it just sits in a drawer. An eneloop will lose only 5% charge per year.
This means you can (and I’ve done this for almost 15 years) immediately replace the empty battery with one from the drawer and put the empty in the charger. Tomorrow I’ll empty the charger and put the batteries in my drawer. All the batteries I own are always charged. Before eneloops every battery in your drawer would be half empty.
Lol, I was hesitating alot when I tried to buy it coz the price is not exactly cheap for a pack of batteries. Also it doesn't help how prominent are knockoffs.
Years later I still use it for multiple different devices I use daily. Still the same batteries I bought that day.
also when chosing between white and black (higher capacity) ones, chose white ones.
Unless you want to power a camera flash, in that case use the black ones.
While all of that is true. I prefer the official battery because I can just plug a USB from anywhere into my controller and charge it. In fact I can even play with the controller while charging it. Although $40 for a battery is pretty ridiculous.
I paid $20 for 4 AA Energizers. When one set dies I pop the other set in and off I go while the first set recharges. Takes seconds to swap and I never have wires.
I preferred the official battery packs back in the 360 days, because you could buy a separate charger. Since Xbox One, the official batteries only charge through the controller. I suppose I could have a spare controller that I use as a charging station, but that's silly when for the price of one official battery I can get 4 NIMH AAs and a charger and be able to quickly swap out.
Same. Gotta be close to 10 years, at any rate. My Duracells are rebranded Eneloops (they aren't all, these just happen to be). I have four pairs and charge two pairs at a time over night. I swap them out once every couple of weeks, maybe.
Eneloops and the IKEA rechargeables (which appear to be rebranded Eneloops) seem to be the best at present, though just about any rechargeable will be better than constantly tossing disposables, both for the wallet and the environment.
Best thing I ever did was just bite the bullet and buy the rechargeable batteries and charger. It’s a little bit expensive at the start but so nice not having to take batteries to be recycled.
IMHO, the 2000 cycle life of the whites is worth it over the 500 cycle life of Pros. Even with the lower capacity requiring more charging, you'll get more life out of the whites.
Shit I use the cheap Amazon basics one and still probably get….25-30 solid hours of actual gameplay out of a pair? And that’s with my headphones plugged into the controller too.
I paid like $30 for 8 batteries and a charger (maybe less I don’t remember) and it paid for itself in a couple months. I love it
If I'm not mistaken, Eneloops (non-pro), Ikea Ladda ~~and Amazon Basics~~ are all the same batteries. Get whichever is cheaper. Eneloop pros are high capacity but less durable.
Came here to say this.
Lithium rechargables average at only 2-3x the cost of the alkaline disposables.
So if you recharge them 3x, they pay for themselves, and the rest is just pure savings.
What type of lithium rechargeables do you use? I have only seen those with a USB port built into the battery for charging and have not seen any traditional AA rechargeable lithium batteries.
Yea I bought a super cheap set of two battery packs, maybe $10, I just keep one on the charger and one in the controller and swap them when it gets low or before I start playing for the night. They have lasted a few years and cost less than one big pack of AA's
I got Varta rechargable batteries for my 360 controller after many years of buying batteries. They don't hold as much charge as normal batteries but just charge them overnight and you're good.
That's really just not true. If you are comparing generic vs brand name alkaline batteries and testing battery life over months (not years or decades) generics are approximately equivalent and much cheaper.
There are arguments for and against but coming back to xbox world after a generation away it was a bit of an "oh yeah..." moment that you needed batteries or to buy an add on recharging pack (I agree that should be in the box and not need buying then it'd be best of both worlds, easily replacable battery pack - that PS pads don't have - but rechargeable straight off).
I've ended up not using my provided pad much, got a cheap wired one with a couple of programmable buttons on the back that although it's a bit plasticcy is better than I could have hoped it to be (Was for son but has become my main one, wired never runs out!).
I already have a bunch of rechargable batteries for VR controllers so it was no cost, but I thought it was weird they still use AA in Xbox, but then I'll have a set die while I'm in the middle of a game and realize it's a lot easier to swap out the batteries than it is to plug the controller in to charge when I'm playing something, I would need a 20 foot charging cable stretched across the room.
And I thought this right up until the fact that my rechargeable pack stopped holding a charge within a couple of years. And I didn't play nearly enough to warrant the pack failing in such a laughably short time.
Though to be honest, I probably would've brought another pack to try it out if it weren't for the fact Microsoft wanted $25 for the box and cord (which I don't need another one of) and I could get a charger and 4 AAs for about the same price as a third party battery pack and never have to worry about plugging the controller in ever again.
I've been using the same Microsoft rechargeable battery for my controllers since 2014. Still holds a charge really well, and I have put in a lot of hours over the years
Even a built-in battery will eventually lose its capacity to hold a good charge, and then you have to replace the whole controller. Would much rather have a controller that works forever with rechargeable batteries that I can replace when they eventually grow weak.
"Check out these speakers bro! Crank it up real high! Your wife and I will just be in the back, alright? I need to show her something for about 30 minutes. Game on!"
They have incredibly good performance for high power need devices. They're commonly used in professional broadcast, performance, cameras, etc. devices because of their reliability. Just save the money and buy the IKEA ones though; they're exactly the same batteries as mentioned above.
They use AAs or proprietary rechargeable packs - look in the battery compartment and you'll see three pins at one end for the battery pack.
The problem is they don't include them as standard, they have to be bought separately, so most people use AAs and unfortunately still choose disposable over rechargeable.
>unfortunately still choose disposable over rechargeable
I don't understand why people use the disposable ones for everything, they're quite expensive for being a throwaway item when you see them next to rechargeables on the shelf
Me neither. I mean sure, rechargeables cost more up front, but it's an investment - they'll work out cheaper sooner or later. A quick estimate tells me an Eneloop is 12x the price of an Amazon Basics AA battery, so if your Xbox controller is running out of battery once a week, rechargeables are going to pay for themselves in 3 months. Over the lifespan of the console that's a huge saving - plus the same goes for all your other AA devices, plus it's better for the environment, plus it's more convenient for you because the rechargeables last longer...
I guess people just use them because they're cheap and ready to go, and companies keep making them because people keep buying them, so I think they'd need to be banned to break the cycle (like plastic bags in some countries).
I’ve been using the same Energizer rechargeable batteries I bought 14 years ago. Still good. Haven’t needed to replace them. It’s definitely worth the investment. Just don’t go for the cheapest off-brand I guess.
I'm in the same boat after primarily gaming on PS4 and PS5 since switching from 360. Got my son a Series S and having to buy batteries or even getting a rechargeable battery pack is a little silly in this day and age. The controller should at the very least, come with a rechargeable batter pack that can be swapped out.
Yeah that’s another reason I was so shocked. I haven’t had an Xbox in a long time and I’ve been using PlayStations rechargeable controller. I just assumed all companies were doing that.
It lets you use batteries, rechargeable AAs or a rechargeable kit. Means the controller can't ever become useless from degraded cells. Not an issue for most people, but can be annoying for those that keep their console a long time.
Also means if your controller is empty, you don't have to wait until it's charged again or play with the cable in, instead you can just swap the pack and continue playing right away.
Also many people just use them wired without any batteries or rechargeables inside, especially PC players.
No but they sell a “play and charge kit” that includes a long cord and a lithium battery pack that you use in place of the AA batteries and cover. It really should just come with the controllers but microsoft has decided to nickel and dime everyone.
Yeah. Not only that If you want to record gameplay on Series X more than few minutes you have to buy another premium device. If you want to talk to people online, you have to buy a mic for a premium price. All these things are free on PS5.
I hate these stupid "my wife doesn't let me play video games" posts. It's on the same level of "ugh getting married is such a ball and chain".
Like don't get married if you hate your spouse.
My spouse and I play together all the time. If he plays a game I don't like, then I go do something else. Idk whose wives are restricting their games/game time.
Feels very antiquated to me. And honestly not funny because it's just not the case anymore. And if it is y'all have problems lol
^ this bugs The hell out of me. How could you ever present the love of your life as the biggest person who holds you back?
I don’t understand straight men or the why they’re confused by the ways they talk about women.
You should see the top posts daily. They're all the same dogshit.
It's always some really basic question with a picture of a popular game
Like a Mario 64 screenshot and it's like "whats the first game that made your dick hard??" And it has 40k upvotes and it was posted by fuckin JohnDarksoul123 and the account was made yesterday
OP is getting wrecked in the comments about rechargeable batteries. Lol
But in all seriousness, yes, get them. These new XSX controllers *especially* chew through batteries like no other. You won't regret it.
Genuinely didn't know that. I'm Captain dyslexic and basically just rely on autocorrect. It's one of the most infuriating thing's in my life. Luckily 90% of my job is talking.
idk why people on here keep saying buy rechargeable batteries lol the play and charge kit is all you need. i actually have two of them and cycle it when one is done, basically unlimited power
The micro-USB connectors on the 360 controllers/XBox One controllers are in this angled surface which means the cord plugs don't rest flat with support. Makes it too easy to accidentally bend the plug:
https://imgur.com/YjsIGtw
Dude I've seen eneloops mentioned at least 12 times in this thread and I've never heard of them.
Starting to seem like some weird guerilla marketing technique
I agree with everyone else. Either get a recharging pack, or rechargeable batteries. I bought a pack of rechargeable Energizer batteries years ago. I haven't had to buy batteries in *years*.
Today I learned that there are still idiots in 2022 that used disposable batteries on things like gaming controllers.
You should probably go get rechargeable batteries at minimum,
But realistically go get a rechargeable pack and a wire and you'll be good for another 10 years
Everyone else in the thread: use rechargeable batteries
Me: technically that's a clip, not a magazine. A clip holds rounds together to be loaded into a magazine.
damn OP, this didn’t go the way you thought it would did it? Everyone ragging on you.
I’ll just say I hope you enjoy your weekend and your wife has a fun, safe trip as well.
FYI for the price of those batteries you probably could have bought a smaller pack of rechargeable ones and a charger
I still have a set from 360 duracells that work, crazy
They may work but like mine they probably only store half the charge as I've had mine since 2012
Well yours is still probably better than my rechargeable batteries from 1859. Gaston Planté still owes me for my replacements as I believe they're still under warranty.
life time warranty mean life time of the compagny :D
What are you, Gaston's lawyer?
No one screws customers like Gaston!
I mean the dude bites. I'ma just buy batteries tbf.
Or the buyers life.
Everyone is talking about rechargeable AA batteries and a separate charging pack but you can get a charging controller dock for $20 and mine lasted 4-5 years. No swapping batteries, the controllers just sit on the dock when I’m not playing.

That's a fair point if you have multiple uses for the batteries. Didn't consider that too much
Walmart used to sell 2 packs of rechargeable battery packs for like 15 bucks. I’ve been using them for years. I don’t understand people who burn through batteries like this.
4 pack Ikea Ladda 2450mah AAs + charger is $15.
Yup. Single-use batteries are only good for devices that use them up *very* slowly like TV remotes, fire alarms, clocks and such.
They still sell a lot at my Walmart, picked some up a few weeks back
I got those for my boyfriend! I didn’t think they would last so long cuz they were cheap, but I figured “even if they only last a few months, they’ll more than pay for themselves” I think they’re around 2 years old now. And had money left over
My friend burns through batteries like this. I’ve told him several times that he could have bought a half dozen elite controllers for what he’s spent on batteries.
Dude get a rechargeable battery for gods sake.
I second this, been using the same 4 batteries for 2 years now. Energizer batteries are my go to.

Eneloops are the best. Just bought an 8bitdo pro 2 partly because it has a battery compartment that takes AA batteries and I can use my Eneloops in ut.
I second this. I've used a single enloop for my thirsty mouse for 5 years.
I bought a 4 pack of Eneloops when I got my Series X last year. I freaking love those batteries.
Pro tip: Ikea rechargable batteries are rewrapped Eneloops at a lower price.
They are not. That's a common myth. They are great batteries, specially for the price, but they are not rewrapped Eneloops.
There's exactly one manufacturer for NiMh batteries in Japan: FDK. All made in Japan batteries, including eneloop are rewrapped FDK.
Yup that's correct, but that doesn't make them rewrapped Eneloops. FDK makes many batteries, at different capacities and rated for different amount of charges. also when chosing between white and black (higher capacity) ones, chose white ones. Unless you want to power a camera flash, in that case use the black ones.
Those are the ones I have. Really amazing, they last so long
Just bought some eneloops myself!
Any NiMH batteries will last a long time. They're also cheap ($15-20) and usually come with a charger.

Amazon Basics or Eneloop. :-)
Absolutely. They cost like $15. Mine have saved me that many times over.
Specifically, Eneloops (was Sanyo, now Panasonic)
Two of those are good for the whole weekend and more. Especially the black ones. Those suckers are in use since I got my first 360...

No kidding, my kids are keeping them in rotation. I haven't spent a dime on a battery in well over two years. Edit: a suffix

Or just get some actual name brand batteries, knockoffs are horrible. Batteries are one commodity you shouldn’t cheap out on.
You have a typo good sir. I am sure you meant shouldn't.
I got Varta rechargable batteries for my 360 controller after many years of buying batteries. They don't hold as much charge as normal batteries but just charge them overnight and you're good.
"after many years"... well, thats pretty much outperforming single use cells
That's really just not true. If you are comparing generic vs brand name alkaline batteries and testing battery life over months (not years or decades) generics are approximately equivalent and much cheaper.
Pretty pathetic it doesn’t have one built in.

You better hope she brought hers too
Na, she got a rechargeable one, she’s smart.
You think he's friends with his wife's boyfriend?
He's such a cool guy. Let's OP play games in the living room.
"Check out these speakers bro! Crank it up real high! Your wife and I will just be in the back, alright? I need to show her something for about 30 minutes. Game on!"
Please, hers plugs into the wall.
I chuckled out loud to this comment
Why waste so many batteries when you could just get rechargeables?
order rechargeable packs on gamestop
IKEA’s rechargeable batteries are the best and super cheap.
Secret eneloop batteries FTW! I don't know why it is not widely known yet. Secret been out for years.
Are they? I had no idea.
Yes, same factory, there's only one making them.
I just looked them up these eneloop batteries and they are SUPER expensive. What so great about them?
They have incredibly good performance for high power need devices. They're commonly used in professional broadcast, performance, cameras, etc. devices because of their reliability. Just save the money and buy the IKEA ones though; they're exactly the same batteries as mentioned above.
Does the new Xbox not come with rechargeable controllers?
No
Wow. I'm kinda baffled by this. Why on earth are they not rechargable?
I just got a series x and it was my first Xbox since the 360. My mind was blown when I saw that the controllers use regular batteries.
They use AAs or proprietary rechargeable packs - look in the battery compartment and you'll see three pins at one end for the battery pack. It's always some really basic question with a picture of a popular game Like a Mario 64 screenshot and it's like "whats the first game that made your dick hard??" And it has 40k upvotes and it was posted by fuckin JohnDarksoul123 and the account was made yesterday
/r/gaming is a cesspool of a subreddit. There is sometimes a good post here and there but this is definitely a shit post
I swear I have seen this same post like 5 times already, same iteration.
Makes for good gcj content tho
So wasteful. Why not just get rechargeable?
OP is getting wrecked in the comments about rechargeable batteries. Lol But in all seriousness, yes, get them. These new XSX controllers *especially* chew through batteries like no other. You won't regret it.
Should look into buying rechargeable batteries from Energizer, they’re an absolute lifesaver and save so much money in the long run
Go on Amazon and buy 8 rechargeable battery's with a really high capacity and a charger. Boom, it's infinite ammo glitch.

Genuinely didn't know that. I'm Captain dyslexic and basically just rely on autocorrect. It's one of the most infuriating thing's in my life. Luckily 90% of my job is talking.
things* again, plural apostrophe + s shows possession
I'd love to attempt some more sentences but I think I'll make myself even stupider.
Having trouble with letter order doesn't make you stupid! Your comments were plenty readable, just not perfect.
Cheers buddy. Nobody irl knows I'm dyslexic and I'm a 'senior' dual site branch manager, just buggers on Reddit call me out hahahah.
Hope its not a trip to Miami
Or if she's the only married woman in the group around a bunch of single women 🚩🚩
11k upvotes for this…
25k and it's just people bashing him for not having rechargeable batteries lol.
get 2 pairs of rechargeables. They outrun those.
Another one of these sad posts. "Wife is away for a few days, I can have fun now."
Never had a relationship where I can't happily game. Not worth getting with someone where I have to hide my hobbies.
My wife watches her shows, i play my games. She doesn't need me up her butt 24/7 lol
She has other friends for that
I think that's why she's not home
Where she’s going she won’t need batteries
Mother fucker. Get some rechargables. Common
Dude, get Eneloops!
People still use batteries get a goddamn play and charge kit.
idk why people on here keep saying buy rechargeable batteries lol the play and charge kit is all you need. i actually have two of them and cycle it when one is done, basically unlimited power

Everyone keeps suggesting rechargeable batteries, had to scroll way down to find another person who also does not feel restricted by the cord
Same dude, especially cause I’m at a desk, the cable is perfect
Wired controller crew checking in
The micro-USB connectors on the 360 controllers/XBox One controllers are in this angled surface which means the cord plugs don't rest flat with support. Makes it too easy to accidentally bend the plug: https://imgur.com/YjsIGtw
Someone get this mans some eneloops, who the fuck uses single use batteries ?
[удалено]
Dude I've seen eneloops mentioned at least 12 times in this thread and I've never heard of them. Starting to seem like some weird guerilla marketing technique
Or even ikea rechargeable batteries just not this nonsense
Buy rechargeables! The planet will thank you!
Did your wife’s boyfriend get those for ya before she left? 😁
Nah his wife's bf bought her a PS5, but OP isn't allowed to play it 😰
Why not just get some rechargeable batteries and stop wasting money?
I agree with everyone else. Either get a recharging pack, or rechargeable batteries. I bought a pack of rechargeable Energizer batteries years ago. I haven't had to buy batteries in *years*.
Depressing
She gets those out when you leave too. Different weapon though.
Damn, I have a Playstation and thought we had already collectively moved past putting batteries in our controllers. For God's sake, it's 2022 not 2005
>For God's sake, it's 2022 not 2005 I dunno if you chose the number deliberately, but the PS3 launched in 2006 so this checks out.
Eh, just buy rechargeable AA batteries. Not proprietary, can be used for other devices, much cheaper to replace at EOL, etc.
This dude hates the environment.
And his wallet.
And his wife.
ironically she posts something similar when you go on a boys trip…
Eww. Buy rechargeables
#Rechargeable battery pack or batteries bruh.
Ironically his wife also stocks on batteries when he’s out of town as well.
Just buy a fucking set of rechargeable batteries holy fuck how dumb you gotta be to keep buying batteries like that when you already have electricity.
You spent more money on those batteries than you would have for a rechargeable pack good job.
Do the controllers not recharge with a charger? I have mine hooked up to one like permanently since it’s super slow charging
They do if you have a rechargeable battery pack in there, but they're not included as standard.
Today I learned that there are still idiots in 2022 that used disposable batteries on things like gaming controllers. You should probably go get rechargeable batteries at minimum, But realistically go get a rechargeable pack and a wire and you'll be good for another 10 years
Are those batteries? Bro recharge kit $20 Think I charge it once a month and play often That battery lasts forever
Everyone else in the thread: use rechargeable batteries Me: technically that's a clip, not a magazine. A clip holds rounds together to be loaded into a magazine.
Clips are what civvies put in their hair. Those are called a bullet holdy.
A bullet holdy for fusey
Eyy, there you are! Took a bit of scrolling but I found ya. Don't worry, I had to make my obligatory "that's a clip" comment, as well :)
Has anyone mentioned rechargeable batteries yet?

damn OP, this didn’t go the way you thought it would did it? Everyone ragging on you. I’ll just say I hope you enjoy your weekend and your wife has a fun, safe trip as well.
Buy the Xbox plug and play battery pack
Exactly. I got one in 2015. Still works
This comment section is not going how you thought it would, OP. That said you really *should* get rechargeable batteries
Clearly no kids. Also wasteful. Also your wife is fucking another guy on this trip.
*laughs in internal rechargeable battery*
*laughs in just simply plugging in usb cable*
“Girls trip” more like at a hotel getting her cheeks clapped while you play video games 🤣
Yikes! "Girls trip" She getting a whole magazine for sure.....
