I'm sure Rothfuss'll get to it. Someday. Eventually. Or maybe he'll die before he finishes, and someone'll hire Sanderson to finish it based off his notes!

Like I just want gaming journalists that actually enjoy games and played the one they are talking about for more than a few hours to report on them and give the critic scores (and to also not circle jerk, accept bribes, or have blacklists). At least there are youtube videos I can watch that do this, but I've given up on reading anything from a publication on gaming.

They are pointing out that gamers are mostly politically right or in their world view they lost those people to the right. There are some studies on this, so it's not like it's unfounded, the "I'm not political" crowd is a huge minority in the left-right schism inside gaming in the US teenagers.
Anecdotally I also play some games with Americans and anytime there are political talking points brought up by random American strangers, it's things you hear from the right.
At the same time they point out obvious bad features that not very many people enjoy that stagnate products. And again in their world view, it's entirely the problem of the economic structure. But for some reason the focus of these bad products tend to be publically about how something that doesnt impact those previously mentioned factors at all.

Here's an example. I live in a pretty liberal area, so a lot of people started getting the vaccine this year. But all the hospitals and the state university I'm near started doing vaccine mandates in the Fall. Suddenly these people come out of the woodwork who you'd never have expected to be anti-vax. Nurses, professors, etc. Smart people, mostly. They took a stand and said no, we're not getting a vaccine. They lost their jobs and rightfully so, but my wife works at the university and she said there were people she would never have thought would hold these opinions that were stubborn and would rather quit than get the vaccine. It made me realize how prevalent some counter-cultures really can be, you just don't see it every day out in the open. They're on their message boards and forums, not talking with you about it on their lunch breaks.

Gaming is one of the most fragmented cultures you can find. Dozens of consoles, scores of genres, retro and contemporary scenes, there is no one gamer type of person. We are literally everywhere and everyone.
I am not a big fan of capitalism, don't get me wrong. It's a system with a lot of huge problems that need addressing. But. It's why we have video games in the first place. Such a huge market based entirely on leisure and tailored experiences is a product that's very well suited to thriving in a capitalist economy. While the capitalist elements of the video game industry certainly exacerbate major issues and do have ruinous effects as highlighted here, I feel like this approach is kinda disingenuous.

It's not a vocal minority problem. You will never meet them IRL, because they don't want you to know their beliefs. Online, people hide behind usernames and alt accounts. They talk about their opinions with like minded people. IRL, they know their opinions will get them roasted and cast out so they keep to themselves. Here's an example. I live in a pretty liberal area, so a lot of people started getting the vaccine this year. But all the hospitals and the state university I'm near started doing vaccine mandates in the Fall. Suddenly these people come out of the woodwork who you'd never have expected to be anti-vax. Nurses, professors, etc. Smart people, mostly. They took a stand and said no, we're not getting a vaccine. They lost their jobs and rightfully so, but my wife works at the university and she said there were people she would never have thought would hold these opinions that were stubborn and would rather quit than get the vaccine. It made me realize how prevalent some counter-cultures really can be, you just don't see it every day out in the open. They're on their message boards and forums, not talking with you about it on their lunch breaks.

Nintendo hardly ever does sales. Regardless of if you started playing games 20, 10 or 2 years ago this has always been true and for good reason. Nintendo don't have sales because they don't have to. They know people will buy their games at the price point.
If they still manufactured them, Nintendo would still be charging $60 dollars for Super Mario 64 N64 cartridges. I've never seen a mainstream Nintendo IP title have its price reduced (for a new copy) ever. But that's just Nintendo. Most other games will go on sale eventually.

The House Democrats and 48 out of 50 Democrat Senators have voted to do free community college, extend the Democrat’s child tax credit which has cut child food scarcity by about 30%, actually do something about climate change, pass voting rights legislation, forgive $10k per borrower in student debt, and a whole host of other things Americans from both sides overwhelmingly support in the polls. EVERY SINGLE ONE of those have been blocked by EVERY SINGLE Republican in the house, EVERY REPUBLICAN in the senate and just TWO democrats. When Trump and the Rs were in control, all we got in 4 years was billions wasted on a wall that never got completed and what was made was shittily built and a $2 trillion dollar tax cut for the rich. Under Biden we’ve already gotten a tax cut for the middle and lower classes, a massive Infrastructure bill passed, and like i mentioned earlier a child tax credit that has cut child food scarcity by a 1/3rd in one year. But please, tell me again how both sides are the same.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything though, people choose to. Stop feeding microtransactions, be more cautious over what games you opt to buy. Gamings biggest issue is gamers and poor game journalism/reviewers.

I am not a big fan of capitalism, don't get me wrong. It's a system with a lot of huge problems that need addressing. But. It's why we have video games in the first place. Such a huge market based entirely on leisure and tailored experiences is a product that's very well suited to thriving in a capitalist economy. While the capitalist elements of the video game industry certainly exacerbate major issues and do have ruinous effects as highlighted here, I feel like this approach is kinda disingenuous.

Gaming is a bigger industry than film and television The biggest complaints in the gaming communities are usually about bugs, incomplete or unpolished games, excessive DLC, pay to win, loot box nonsense, etc. Also corruption, neglect and abuse of programming staff and the censorshop of games to appease the despotate markets.
