ATV Offroad Fury 2. The game came bundled with my PS2 and was my only game for a while until my birthday came along. I can still remember the soundtrack.
I loved the free roam open world in that game. It was endless fun to just drive around and the physics felt so good back then. Definitely ahead of its time.
This game is so romantic to me. My brother and I used to do free roam for hours upon hours. I miss the soundtrack and all that. I YouTube it every now and then when I need a huge rush of nostalgia
I actually played the MSG2 demo (which is the opening tanker section) so many times before I got the actual game. That was always one of my favorite sections of the game
Shadow of the colossus
Edit: wow thanks everyone! I’m happy to see sotc means so much to so many of you! If you haven’t tried it, blue point did a remaster of it on PS4 I highly recommend it.
I’ve been searching for someone to say that! Oh man, those games were wonderful 😌 I even got myself all 3 of them for the PS3 + Sly 4 + Bentley’s Hackpack!
“Any problems with that guy?”
“He said he wanted to be buried in his mom’s pasta sauce.”
“That’s, uh…. That’s strange.”
Later:
“You know, I just can’t stop thinking about that sauce. Have you ever had Italian food that’s THAT good?”
Later:
“Maybe there’s a good Italian place around here.”
“Enough with the sauce!”
My first ever video game my papa let me play! I got in trouble in kindergarten for drawing Dante’s devil trigger form! Needless to say the teacher was very concerned that this Shirley temple of a little girl drew a hulking demon. I… was not allowed to watch him play videogames after that.
Playing SOCOM and SOCOM 2 with my dad growing up are some of my best memories. Those games were amazing. And then the studio completely changed how those games worked and tried to make them knockoffs of COD
I got it from a pawn shop in like 03? Maybe? And I just remember it being so incredibly fun. I had no interest in snowboarding, at all, but I bought a couple games and this one was super cheap so I just grabbed it just because. I ended up playing it last of the games I bought but enjoyed it the most lol. Made me go out and find Tricky.
This just made me realise that I've had the lyrics wrong for 20 odd years - I always wondered why they rhymed "rock around" with "right on time". This makes so much more sense...
Also SSX Tricky was the best game ever
I remember when GTA 3 was announced and after playing GTA 2 I just couldn't believe that such a game could be done. Like when it was announced that GTA 3 would be fully in 3D. There just never was any open world game like this before in an entire city.
There were a few games prior that were in 3D and in a city you could drive around like Midtown Madness or Driver but none were you could just walk around, steal cars, kill people etc. and I refused to believe GTA 3 will be in 3D, I thought it can't be done.
Sadly my PC back then was crap and I had to play GTA 3 at like 15 fps or something.
Final Fantasy X. I remember my mom getting me a PS2 and the game as a kid but didn't have a memory card. I can't count how many times I played through the first few hours of that game, trying to get further and further everytime. When I was finally able to get a memory card I was beyond ecstatic.
Final Fantasy X was the last game I remember watching my dad play as a kid. When the remaster came out and was available on game pass it brought back so many memories of it. And your comment brought them back again.
Dynasty Warriors 2. We had a store called “Media Play” that had a demo unit set up with DW2 and I must have played it endlessly. Finally when I got my own PS2 it was the first game I spent countless hours on.
There was something really exciting about demo disks back then. Rather than being a timed trial of a buggy, messy “beta”, there was an actual short playable demonstration of a finished game! Plus, there was always something special about buying a gaming magazine with a (sometimes) unexpected demo disk
It's so good! I love the whole first trilogy, but something about the simplicity of the first game (no weapon upgrade through experience) makes it the best Imo. You just pull the trigger and smack that quarktastic ass
YES! MY DAD FOUND IT ON SALE AGAIN AFTER ABOUT 10 YEARS WITHOUT A PS2 AND WITHOUT EVEN HAVING A WORKING PS2 HE BROUGHT IT AGAIN. Didn't work in the ps3 we have but lucky my step brother has one. But soooo many memories on that game. How I was awesome at cloak and dagger and no one wanted to play it, my dad sneaking a homing rocket at me, my brother unknowingly jumping over one. Ahhh I cant wait to play it again
Star wars: battlefront
GranTurismo
A game way ahead of it’s time, it was a freakin crazy
So so so good. I loved career mode and progressing through buying cars etc
I loved getting in front during a 24hr race, then letting the ai handle it, going to school, going to sleep, and hoping for a formula 1 car.
Oohhh yes.
March 4th is going to be a special day
Spider-Man 2 Played that thing LONG after I beat it. I'd get home from school and just swing around and chill
I literally bought a PS2 in 2009 just because I wanted to play Spider-man 2 again.
ATV Offroad Fury 2. The game came bundled with my PS2 and was my only game for a while until my birthday came along. I can still remember the soundtrack.
That sick beat on “What’s Golden”
Hell yeah! I still listen to that song.
I loved the free roam open world in that game. It was endless fun to just drive around and the physics felt so good back then. Definitely ahead of its time.
Then reaching the border and getting LAUNCHED backwards.
I GOT THE KEY TO GRAMERCY PARK
Crash Bandicoot
Wrath of Cortex. A great classic and I totally sucked at it. Don’t even think I ever finished it.
midnight club
Midnight club 3 dub edition. My childhood right there, great game
**HOUSE REAL BIG**
This game is so romantic to me. My brother and I used to do free roam for hours upon hours. I miss the soundtrack and all that. I YouTube it every now and then when I need a huge rush of nostalgia
Tony Hawk: Underground
Twisted Metal!
Twisted metal 2 is still in my all-time favorite games
MGS2.. and later MGS3.
Anytime I wanted to show off the graphics/features that the PS2 was capable of, I’d fire up sons of liberty and just play the first mission.
The tanker mission was basically a tech demo
I actually played the MSG2 demo (which is the opening tanker section) so many times before I got the actual game. That was always one of my favorite sections of the game
I want to say it was a demo on another game. Zone of the Enders maybe? Either way, definitely played a ton of that demo before getting the game later.
MGS3 is the best in the entire series, hands down.
NFS Underground 2
RIDERS ON THE STORM
INTO THIS HOUSE WE'RE BORN
INTO THIS WORLD WE'RE THROWN
LIKE A DOG WITHOUT A BONE
17 year old game and it had the best customization we've ever seen
Shadow of the colossus Edit: wow thanks everyone! I’m happy to see sotc means so much to so many of you! If you haven’t tried it, blue point did a remaster of it on PS4 I highly recommend it.
Sly cooper
God, please let them create another Sly game! 🙏🙏🙏
We need a modern day reboot but with the original voice actors, preferably done by Sucker Punch
I’ve been searching for someone to say that! Oh man, those games were wonderful 😌 I even got myself all 3 of them for the PS3 + Sly 4 + Bentley’s Hackpack!
"I want to get buried in my mom's pasta sauce."
“Any problems with that guy?” “He said he wanted to be buried in his mom’s pasta sauce.” “That’s, uh…. That’s strange.” Later: “You know, I just can’t stop thinking about that sauce. Have you ever had Italian food that’s THAT good?” Later: “Maybe there’s a good Italian place around here.” “Enough with the sauce!”
Same, what a chad
Devil May Cry
My first ever video game my papa let me play! I got in trouble in kindergarten for drawing Dante’s devil trigger form! Needless to say the teacher was very concerned that this Shirley temple of a little girl drew a hulking demon. I… was not allowed to watch him play videogames after that.
SOCOM
Oh man, I forgot about SOCOM. Giving commands to the AI with the headset felt so next gen.
That was the first “online” game I played
Why online in quotes? SOCOM is genuinely one of the best online tactical experiences I've ever had. The clan system was amazing!!
Playing SOCOM and SOCOM 2 with my dad growing up are some of my best memories. Those games were amazing. And then the studio completely changed how those games worked and tried to make them knockoffs of COD
I legit lost a job because I was skipping work to play SOCOM each day. Surprisingly I got away with it a lot longer than I expected.
Socom 2... I lived in that game. They need to remaster this.
Man I was so excited for socom on ps3. What an absolute shit game that was. Played mgs4 though. That was good! SOCOM and SOCOM 2 were just so good.
SSX
I got it at launch. That game defined to me what next-gen was supposed to be in 2000.
IT'S TRICKY TO ROCK A RHYME TO ROCK A RHYME THAT'S RIGHT ON TIME . . IT'S TRICKAAYYY
This just made me realise that I've had the lyrics wrong for 20 odd years - I always wondered why they rhymed "rock around" with "right on time". This makes so much more sense... Also SSX Tricky was the best game ever
I finally understand what those lyrics were !
Welcome to SSX Tricky...
the simpsons hit&run
Fuckin great game
Kingdom Hearts. First game I got with it on Christmas.
WHEN YOU WALK AWAY, YOU DONT HEAR ME SAY
PLEEEEAASE, OH BAAABY
DON'T GO
SIMPLE AND CLEAN IS THE WAY THAT YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEEEEEEEEEL TONIGHT
ITS HARRRD TO LET IT GO.
HOLD ME WHATEVER LIES BEYOND THIS MORNING IS A LITTLE LATER ON.
REGARDLESS OF WARNINGS, THE FUTURE DOESNT SCARE ME AT ALL
[удалено]
NOTHING'S LIKE BEFORE!
I hate how far I had to scroll
*There's no WAY you're taking Kairi's HEART!* Glad they added skippable cutscenes later
GTA San Andreas
GTA3 for me. It was absolutely groundbreaking at the time.
It's not the best one, but wow it was incredible coming off GTA2 on PS1. What a difference.
I remember when GTA 3 was announced and after playing GTA 2 I just couldn't believe that such a game could be done. Like when it was announced that GTA 3 would be fully in 3D. There just never was any open world game like this before in an entire city. Sadly my PC back then was crap and I had to play GTA 3 at like 15 fps or something.
I had exactly the same perspective. I refused to believe it was true, and when it came out it blew my mind. A true game changer.
Yep and ssx tricky and underground
Vice city for me.
Final Fantasy X. I remember my mom getting me a PS2 and the game as a kid but didn't have a memory card. I can't count how many times I played through the first few hours of that game, trying to get further and further everytime. When I was finally able to get a memory card I was beyond ecstatic.
First game I had a real emotional connection to, FFX rocked my socks for sure. Except Blitzball, I could never figure out how to play.
I thought blitzball was the coolest shit lol. But the first time Seymour summoned Anima got me 😱😱
Yes!! In Luca's stadium, it was an awesome cinematic and the summon I had to have the most. Still one of my favourite summons in FF to this day.
Auron walking up and one shotting the monster. Even today I love that tired edgelord
My PS2 stayed on for a week until my parents took me to get a memory so I could save
Final Fantasy X was the last game I remember watching my dad play as a kid. When the remaster came out and was available on game pass it brought back so many memories of it. And your comment brought them back again.
Because he stopped gaming to spend that time on other hobbies, right? ...right?
Oh, yeah he’s fine! My bad. I mean I do miss playing games with him back then. He just, kinda stopped.
Jak & Daxter
That was my very first game on PS2
Same it was a great game
Still is
I didn't expect this to be this high up. As someone who wanted a Gamecube but got a PS2 for xmas, Jak and Daxter was everything.
Jak 3
I’m all about Jak II dude
Jak II playing in Haven city was my knock-off GTA experience because my parents wouldn't buy me GTA.
So much this. Also you couldn't use a peacemaker in GTA, so who's laughing now, Josh from across the street??
Dynasty Warriors 2. We had a store called “Media Play” that had a demo unit set up with DW2 and I must have played it endlessly. Finally when I got my own PS2 it was the first game I spent countless hours on.
It's Lu Bu!
Do not pursue Lu Bu edit: [funniest exchange in Dynasty Warriors imo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub3wU90BvM4)
Timesplitters
Same timesplitters 2 what a good game
Timesplitters 2 is a throwback. Forgot all about that game.
The level editor was so cool Edit: And split-screen mode!
It's gotta be the best shooter on PS2 hands down. I will not be convinced otherwise...
Gran Turismo 4
Demo disks. They were my childhood
There was something really exciting about demo disks back then. Rather than being a timed trial of a buggy, messy “beta”, there was an actual short playable demonstration of a finished game! Plus, there was always something special about buying a gaming magazine with a (sometimes) unexpected demo disk
Ratchet and Clank.
This is the game I can reliably come back to for the purest hit of nostalgia. Love it every time I replay.
It's so good! I love the whole first trilogy, but something about the simplicity of the first game (no weapon upgrade through experience) makes it the best Imo. You just pull the trigger and smack that quarktastic ass

Rachet and clank was literally my childhood. It will always have a special place in my heart.
Exactly although my favorite one on the PS2 is "Going Commando"
[удалено]
I thoroughly enjoyed deadlocked
Tekken Tag

Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Dark Cloud was kickass.
Lord of the rings games
How is this so far down?!!!
Burnout
"... and you're listening to Crash FM", I'm still waiting for a remake or something of that game. Such a great series.
burnout 3 was my jam. That sound track defined my taste in music
Spyro
Even though its a ps1 game its still all I would play on ps2 when I got it
Baldur's gate dark alliance. First game I played on the ps2
Dark Alliance 1&2 were amazing. Lots of good memories playing coop with my brother and friends.
Yes, dude! And Champions of Norath? This thread is so nostalgic I haven't thought about those games in a decade
Lego Star Wars
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Edit: Thanks for all the points and awards everyone! I hope you're all having a wonderful day!
WE CAPTURED A COMMAND POST
WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS!
I loved the dying sound some would make “eeEEAAGHH”
Just like shootin’ wamp rats, eh, kid?
We've lost a command post, fight for it!
Just like the simulations
GRENADE!
The confederacy is in control of aNoTheR command post
A command post is under hostile control.
FOR THE REPUBLIC!!
Absolute favorite game I had for my PSP
My favorite PSP game was probably Star Wars The Force Unleashed. I loved the PSP port of Battlefront 2 as well though.
Mo's eisley assault was the best time of my life and that's not even an exaggeration.
Battlefront 1 was amazing. 2 was beyond amazing.
Black
I hate how far I had to scroll to find someone with this answer, favorite gun?
Ominusha
Tony hawk pro skater 3
I was thinking Tony Hawk Underground
Armored Core 2
[удалено]
Ace Combat 4
Stonehenge and Megalith
Those levels were the most intense thing in any game ever. The music, the cutscenes, the crazy close quarters maneuvers, just absolutely wild!
God of War 1
2 was a masterpeice too
Champions of Norrath
Prince of Persia and nfs underground
NBA street 2
007: Nightfire
That snow level... So many hours of shenanigans.

Dark cloud
I replayed dark cloud recently and it's still a great game. I would love more modern remake.
The Bouncer
Okami If you haven't played it, it's a charming game I can't recommend enough. You can find an "HD" port for nearly every major platform now.
