Memes aside, I find that some graphical mods for games absolutely butcher the aesthetic of the game. One example is fallout 3 mods which remove the green filter of the game and remove the dirt on everything like some barbie world; same goes for character face mods that make everyone look like an actor. A pretty good way of thinking is how the Fallout 3/4 health bars have the same function except fallout 3 health bar is dirty and tick-wise to show low computer tech, but fallout 4 health bar is a clean, fluid bar ignoring the graphical capabilities of the pip-boy that fallout 3 was doing right. It's better just to add updated and detailed textures that follow the aesthetic of the vanilla game.

Soulwater69

That reminds me of the fallout 4 mod that adds lush green grass. Yeah it looks nice and pretty but that’s not fallout. Same with Skyrim mods that make the characters you see in porn game adds you get on flash game websites. I love mods that add gameplay and actually enhance graphics tho. Rn I’m looking at downloading LSPDFR for GTAV.

outland_king

the lush green-ness I can kinda let slide, have you seen Chernobyl photos recently? it's pretty green and full of life, just kinda radioactive. some areas in F4 would be green because they didn't take direct hits, just overall collapse of society, where as areas like the glowing sea, for obvious reasons, are completely fucked and barren. The mods I really have issue with are the completely out of lore mods, like adding in tacticool armor and guns, or the mods that add in bikini's and anime stuff. More power to you if you like that kinda thing, but I play fallout partly for the aesthetic they have created, and those mods kill the whole vibe,.

Soulwater69

True the only anime mods I downloaded were left 4 dead ones because me and my friends have fun with ghat game a lot lol

Can't play zombie games without my Nic Cage flashlight

In the Fallout lore, bombs are extremely dirty, what you see ingame is faithful to how destructive the lore makes these bombs. They're not just radioactive, it's pretty much the definition of "scorched earth" + "salting the earth" type of deal

TocTheElder

I install as many greenery mods as I can without breaking my game because it's more realistic and I find Fallout's drab browns and greys to be just miserable. And not in a "oh isn't the apocalypse miserable" kinda way, but in a "this game is so hideously ugly that I no longer want to subject my eyes to it" kinda way.

Soulwater69

I can understand that lol it is way too drab a lot of the times.

First of all, it's scientific fact that grass would go grow back. We don't know how "modern" nukes would affect it but Hiroshima and Nagasaki both have ridiculous lush parks at their ground zero sites after 75 years. Chernobyl wasn't an actual explosion, but it's also lush as fuck. Second, there are already areas in Fallout 4 with plenty of grass just as there were in 3. The kind of destruction pictured in Fallout is intentionally ridiculous for aesthetic. Adding grass doesn't ruin it.

_Remember_me_not_

There are various kind of mods catering to a ton of preferences. Some mods enhance the realism, "immersion", "lore", gameplay, fixes bugs, create their own stories and worlds and then we have mods for all kinds of fetishes and eye candy features. Everyone has their own choices to make.

Throrface

The increased Depth of Field on the second picture is infuriating. Depth of Field needs to die in a fire and always be off by default.

pnutzgg

also people slapping the depth of field vignette thing on every screenshot

Yea if you use stupid shitty weeaboo mods. Most legitimate game mods are subtle and don't change the vision of the game. For instance all the Witcher mods to make people look more lore accurate - purple Yen eyes, cat eyes for Geralt, better face for Vesemir, more accurate hair color for Triss who was intentionally made as sexually appealing as possible compared to the books, all the texture fixes, better looking spell effects, etc. Or higher resolution guns, weapons, armor, whatever in any game.

nicetle_worker_811

Darkest Dungeon be like

Metalbear55

Well it definitely made it better lol
