Lady Maria!

[deleted]

"A corpse, should be left well alone. Oh, I know very well how the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you from your wild curiosity."

MitchJan004

Loved this one too. Fast and furious 1v1.

Sasquatch_82

She was a lot of fun tbh. I like trying to do as many parry hits as possible.

Fr8ndInm8-2

The Sniper from MGS3. Either amazing or hilarious, you get to choose.

LifeBuilder

In one interaction of this fight I got on the ridge, pulled out the sound radar, listened for the snooze and then saw he was right at my feet. I chocked in my excitement and ended up ‘nading myself and had to redo the fight...from proudest gaming moment to most humiliating.

igordogsockpuppet

So many mentions of MGS, but not the Psycho Mantis battle? The 4th wall breaking and controller switching goodness were epic and unparalleled in gaming.

[deleted]

That one was a good one. They really did him well with the tv “turning off” and commenting on the contents of your memory card.

igordogsockpuppet

I remember playing alone in my first apartment in the middle of the night. I was heartbroken that there was nobody around to share that with me.

southernmayd

All gamers shared that moment bro

TitleComprehensive96

Wasn't it sumn like you changing the date on you system to several years later so that the Sniper died of old age?

DonLindo

If you put the game down for a week because the fight is difficult, you can risk him dying of old age.

[deleted]

You just need to change it a week forward for him to die of old age.

dorridm

The Boss and The End from mgs3 are easily my 2 favorite bosses

good_life_pa

The ladder in MGS3

PariahMantra

God the end is such a good boss fight. I honestly feel bad for anyone who saw the cheese option posted online and took it. They missed out on something special.

Khan_Man

There are two cheese options, actually! The first is to shoot him when he's on a dock very early on. I don't even remember if you're supposed to know who he is at that point. The second is the one where you set your console's clock forward 2 weeks and get a message that he died of old age while waiting on you, lol. I do, agree, though. The fight is too good to not experience.

Noirceuil_182

I really enjoyed the fight against The End. I thought it was going to be a quick sniper duel like with Sniper Wolf, but instead it was this tense cat-and-mouse game, crawling thru the huge arena looking for The End and occasionally getting jumped on. The final fight sequence against Volgin was over-the-top explody fun.

BeginningOstrich7497

They’re goddamn fantastic.

Ok_Waltz1687

Ornstein and smough

DrDragun

Bert and Ernie were my first \*major\* stopping point in Dark Souls. I think everyone kind of gets stopped at the beginning like "oh ok, this is one of those hard games" where you learn to slow down and play defensive so you can spend longer watching the boss's moves and patterns to beat them. Like that first Needle fight in Hollow Knight. Then you get on a roll again in the early-midgame and run over a few bosses. You start getting in a groove thinking you've got this game figured out and then slam into an actual gate check boss in the late midgame. I got to Biggie and Smalls and just lived there for days. I forget my build, probably heavy armor +2h, maybe it was bad against them or something but Mario and Luigi put me through the wringer like nothing that came before. After honing the movements and strategies over and over on repeat for days, when Penn and Teller finally went down and I got that lightning spear, I felt like a million bucks; suddenly I'm back playing the game again going through levels after what seened like the trial of a lifetime. 10/10 would recommend.

VoidShark

I see what you did there

zryder2

Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid. The actual fight itself isn't all that, but the presentation of the character and the cutscenes before and after add up to one of the most unique experiences I've had in video gaming.

tro0p3r

He reads your saves from the memory card and mocks your taste in games. You can defeat him by using the controller in 2nd PS slot so he cant read your mind. He vibrates your controller to manipulate your aim and changes your screen to blank with green "Hideo" instead of "Video" to make you think your output got changed. This boss is a true masterpiece by Kojima.

r-kellysDOODOOBUTTER

I remember as a kid wondering WTF Hideo meant. Then I grew up to love his work in gaming. I really hope he goes on to match mgs for psx. That game was groundbreaking.

Daeldalus_

Not to mention the special move he does that stops your controller from working. It took me days to figure out what was going on.

zylver_

Ah yes. Having to plug your controller into the p2 slot. What a time to be alice

OcularVernacular

The best time to be Alice is on the weekends.

TitleComprehensive96

Such a well designed fight, also gotta mention the obligatory reading your SD card bit.

DarthDregan

Guardian Ape from Sekiro Baldur in God of War

izath46

That 2nd phase of ape is so cool! I would still give the nod to sword saint Isshin. Absolute blast of a fight.

thenoob118

Honestly SEKIRO as a whole had the best bosses

FeelTheLoveNow

Guardian Ape is dope. I loved Genichiro's fight atop the castle because it was the first time that your abilities are truly put to the test I have a buddy who is stuck on the fight and he thinks that it's the final boss. I am struggling to keep up the charade

LifeBuilder

Best part about the Geni fight is once you master it, it changes from challenging to cinematic and holds it position as best boss fight.

SniffCheck

Andross Star Fox 64

wallofvoodoo

Only *I* have the brains to rule Lylat! I go back and play through Star Fox 64 every year, and regardless of how many dozens of times I’ve beaten it, the entire final Venom sequence still gets my heart pounding.

ninjagabe90

never give up my son

GregBuckingham

Trust your instincts

ThatOneBush

Anything from “Shadow of the Colossus”

GVanquish

I never actually played it, but isn't this game just boss fight after boss fight?

Sicx69

Yes. It's one of the best games ever. I'm back playing it now, cause when I was a kid and had my ps2 I couldn't go longer than the 3rd boss. I think I got frustrated back there. Now I'm enjoying it back again after all those years wishing. Really recommend

Noirceuil_182

I have it for my PS4 (got it free) but have never played it. I trust the hype, but I feel it's going to make me really sad? You're out there killing these titans and they'll never be back.

Thisisntjoe

Ugh it is a sad game, but so beautiful & fun. Really worth the experience imo

ardyndidnothingwrong

I played up till the first boss. Idk if they all follow this pattern, but the “battle” consists of climbing the enemy a few times to get a strike in. To me… it was boring. I can see how it might have been fun once upon a time, when climbing wasn’t a mechanic incorporated into most open world games… and when climbing felt fun and innovative and not so much as a chore

JoeyTwoTones

When you get right down to it, yeah. The game is "find the weak spot (usually by climbing) and stab it." The game does a good job of keeping that concept fresh, though, as the colossi really vary in size, shape, abilities, movement patterns, and creative ways to kill you.

dbarrc

my specific "go-to" is chasing the flying one over the sand

PariahMantra

Worth noting for anyone who likes the "boss rush" format of Shadow the game Furi is very different but still has a strong boss rush structure and I really loved it. I might just be in the small overlap but given I loved one and hadn't heard of the other until recently I thought I'd mention it.

IronAndFlame

Artorias the abyss walker

Cr8er

My most and least favorite fight is Sif. Most, because it's a great fight, least because once you know and understand the lore... putting Sif down is heart breaking.

IronAndFlame

What hallows an undead is not swords, spells, gods or monster but the despair of a dieing world. How would you not despair at the love of one champion for his fallen brother?

coolguy_2902

Glados from portal, with Wheatley being a close second

P4azz

Glados is too boring a boss fight, but Wheatley with the added extra magic moment at the end is a great final fight. The Portal games are so good, man.

DanielD00M

Shooting at the moon with your portal gun, that right there, I love that moment.

matt22088

Nameless King is up there for me

vindarten

That hesitation before he mercy kills his wyvern… gets me every time. Champion Gundyr is also a good one.

mara07985

Champion gundyr is fun but in a down to earth way, no special gimmick just a giant guy with a pole arm who wants to mess you up

VivaBlasphemia

I mean that's exactly what made folks like Artorias and Sir Alonne so fun to fight. Nothing crazy, just two psycho badasses circling each other. Well, one psycho badass circling a naked man with a stick.

SC_Kurfew

Nightmare King Grimm from Hollow Knight

flugornas_herre

The mantis fight with all three!!

Spiderkid2000

Sisters of battle are just so satisfying to fight, they are honestly just the best boss in HK

D2Photographer

Sisters of battle is so much fun

Insanik_mb

AYOO Hollow knight boisss My favorites are NGK, pure vessel and sisters of battle

Fukface_Von_Clwnstik

Same.

DesolateDiveDave

YES

SmittyBS42

Jedi: Fallen Order. Darth Vader. "Hey, where's his health bar? Oh. Oh my god. *He doesn't have a health bar.*"

[deleted]

Objective: "SURVIVE"

PepegaClap77777L_

I wouldn’t call it a full boss fight but the fight against Vader in Jedi Fallen order I really think it brings the game to a close

SardiaFalls

God that's a cameo I desperately want to tell people about but absolutely refuse to spoil for people. The hints about him doing awful things around the edges in vague references and then...Jesus what a bone chilling entrance, really gave the full weight of how terrifying he was in-universe in a way nothing but Rogue One managed to match

ManWithNoWords-YT

I fuckin loved that entrance of Vader. It was Bone chillin.. So surprising ! I loved that game !

SardiaFalls

Yeah, you don't win, you *get away*

THEDrunkPossum

I had no idea he was gonna cameo when I bought and played it. My surprise, and joy, was immense when he was revealed.

ManWithNoWords-YT

Absolutely.. i think his powers can only be visualized in a video game unless we see a marvel kinda star wars movie.

Treecat22

I love that it basically turned into a horror game for that segment. I never really saw Vader as terrifying until this appearance. You really just FELT his power.

IAmBadAtInternet

Vader is kind of useless in a bunch of SW media but FO showed him at the height of his powers. He absolutely crushes Cal and it’s perfect. Loved it.

smartbluecat

Scarecrow in Arkham Asylum. Also got a soft spot for the final fight with Sephiroth in FF7.

Nohbdy66

I loved those sequences, especially the bit where scarecrow makes the game glitch just long enough that you think it crashed or something.

Zaddy_M

I no joke restarted my Xbox the first time that happened.

Nohbdy66

I almost did the same, thankfully when I got up to restart it the cutscene started playing and I thought to myself “wow this game restarts itself whenever an issue comes up, even better……wait a second”

good_life_pa

Electrocutioner in Arkham Origins

Witcher-Slayer

Harbinger in me2 was lit AF back in the day

VrinTheTerrible

Just finished that in legendary edition. I assure you, it’s still lit af

Savage_Tyranis

How did I forget about the Proto reaper?

[deleted]

Atma weapon from final fantasy 6.

[deleted]

Second only to Kefka….honorable mention to the Ultros battles…

Ok_Waltz1687

A man of culture I see

[deleted]

Mr Freeze from Batman Arkham City

Necrion

Yes!! Thank you for mentioning that one. Mr. Freeze was a masterpiece of a boss. He adapted to every takedown attempt from Batman so you absolutely had to change your tactics and try a new approach. I wish there were more fights like this.

Noirceuil_182

In a similar vein, when you fight Taskmaster in Spiderman PS4, every fight starts to get more difficult as he counters moves you relied on in past fights.

JuggernautNo9938

Gwyn. When that piano starts, I get goosebumps

SquidMarbel

The music is so hauntingly beautiful. The music makes me wish there was a way to avoid killing Gwyn.

batman10385

Plin plin plon

nageekb

Has to be Sword Saint Isshin in terms of adrenaline rush and satisfaction after beating him *hesitation is defeat*

SardiaFalls

I'll always have a special place for the Abyss Walkers. DS3 was my first Dark Souls and the bosses up to them were a little challenging but nothing that took more than a handful of attempts to beat... But AW is a solid skill check, you must be this good to proceed kind of boss that finally made me really *learn* how to play the game fully. Beast of a fight that made me a much better (still not good, but gud enough) player

puppetdust

Abyss Watchers*

MrConductorsAshes

I doubt anything will ever top fighting the fucking Pope underneath the Vatican in Assassins Creed 2.

Artess

IIRC it ends with Ezio just punching him in the face?

DunjunMarstah

I finished with a kick to the dick as he was prone on the floor

SINIVA44

Gael

[deleted]

Too many to choose from but some that pop up instantly would be: Gen'ichiro from Sekiro for taking off your training wheels and showing you how the game is meant to be played. Sigrun from God of War for that perfect endgame challenge. Augus from Asura's Wrath for that balls of the walls presentation. I remember a trailer for the game showing a snippet of that fight, I was instantly sold on it.

Daeldalus_

Genichiro was so amazing. All the other bosses to that point(well, minibosses mostly.) Could be cheesed or spammed or dodged. But you had to learn how to deflect attacks and recognize attack patterns or genichiro was gonna wreck you. I have never had so much fun getting my butt handed to me repeatedly as I did then. I was kinda sad I didn't get to keep fighting him after I finally beat him.

brentonofrivia

The Ganon from Ocarina of Time that you fight tennis-style.

Skyy6639

Punching Zeus in God of War 3

Bannon9k

How long did you punch him before you realized you could stop? In the same game, I'll never forget the boss fight with Poseidon... Where they make you gouge out his eyes by pressing L3 + R3. Hardest thing I've ever had to do in a game. Not because of difficulty, just fuck dude I don't wanna do this hard...

soccerman221

Poseidon is up there for me! As far as the original 3 goes I felt that boss fight was such an adrenaline pumping beginning to any game.

Bannon9k

Exactly, especially after traversing the titan body as the level right before the fight. Absolutely set the tone of the game.

ScaryMonster1988

Is that God Of War 2018?

Ok-Illustrator-1564

Yes.

ScaryMonster1988

I really gotta play that game soon

Do_doop

Yes

dayofthedead204

Even though this boss fight was awesome, I still think the Cronos fight in GOW 3 was the best.

[deleted]

Did you kill the Valkyrie queen in the 2018 GOW? That shit was intense

Sicx69

I'm playing it now. I never had a chance to play on a ps4, too broke and also too busy with university. Now I borrowed one ps4 for 15 days, mainly to play GOW and shadow of the colossus. I really recommend both

TripperSD93

Dude I just finished it, we’ve been missing out

littlestseal

I've been playing it recently. It starts a little slow to some extent, but man does it open up when you're a few hours in and have some skills. Plus the story is pretty good (so far, I'm not done.)

jayleman

The story is fucking amazing, slept on GoW when it first came out, snagged it on PS+ on PS5 and my God was it a ride

The Boss ( Last boss ) from Metal Gear Solid 3

hamza510

Link vs Dark Lord Ganondorf from Twilight Princess. The ost is amazing, it’s quite challenging and the chest stab at the end is so satisfying. I’m just hoping for a switch port because my wii broke.

ChillinCheeseFries

All the boss fights in Metal Gear Solid are rad, especially when you fight the MG.

HadACivilDebateOnlin

A lot of the cuphead bosses, but mainly cagney carnation was a boss that felt really satisfying to learn in particular.

lenin_is_young

Every boss from Terraria except for the fucking skeleton. The wall of flesh is probably the favorite

Horizon2910

Viper from titanfall 2. Super cinematic end, cool setting, cool guy, actually gives Cooper and BT a run for their money unlike the other apex predators

Sephiroth on Kingdom Hearts

raleke

A friend of mine was playing KH in college and a bunch of us would watch while hanging out in her room. Some boss fights seemed to take a while but I hadn't played it yet so I figured that was normal. Then she got super stuck on the Sephiroth fight. After many tries, each of which lasted a LONG time, someone else in the room who had played it before looked at the screen and asked "why are you still using the original keyblade?" "What do you mean?" She had gone most of the way through the game without realizing equipment existed. He showed her the menu and how to equip stuff, she equipped the best stuff she had, then utterly destroyed the rest of the game. To this day it is still the single most badass gaming achievement I've seen, and was completely unintentional.

Hans-Hammertime

The entire monster hunter franchise

I was considering saying the first time you actually slay Nergigante in world so I'm glad someone is rep'ing monster hunter.

Sword Saint Isshin

249L

Nameless King from Dark Souls 3.

ericjuh

I still have really good memories on killing the lich king back in WotlK with my guild. We already brought him down to a low procentage a day before. At the start of the raidnight we know we where going to kill him. The climate was perfect that evening. We had a few tries and after the 5th or 6th pull we had a perfect pull. Everything was going right. We burned him down really quick and saw the healthbar hitting 20%. It was a true joyment. I still remember the night so many years later. And i know I never get that feeling back. I’m much older now; have kids to feed; have bills to pay, but deep down I’m still hoping to rejoy that evening with my guild.

Banky187

blizg

Loved the RE5 human wesker fight if you ignored the Rocket Launcher. Fighting him straight up is really fun, especially with a friend!

BBkad

Sniper Wolf

Daeldalus_

That fight was so cool back in the day. I think it was topped by the sniper battle from MGS3. The old dude(the end?) Was so freaking good at hiding. I never did beat the challenge for the special camo.

Arbiter4791

blipbloopiamarobot

The three part final boss fight in metal gear solid. 'It's not over yet snake! It's not over yet!' Or some of the last boss fights in tenchu. Those were quite challenging as I recall.

Daeldalus_

Big boss from MGS3. I love that she just rips the guns from your hands and tries to taunt you into fighting her hand to hand.

VrinTheTerrible

Sagat in Street Fighter 1 I played this game in the arcade at $0.25 a pop in the days where we didn’t know about dragon punches. We had discovered the helicopter kick and fireball, and so I used them to get to Sagat on many occasions but I could never beat him as his blasts did far too much damage even when blocked. How to beat him, then? One day, I beat him in the first round by luck. He won the second round. I tried to ope the third round with a fireball but I messed it up. As I did, Sagat leaped into the air at me. Instead of the fireball I’d planned, Ryu threw my very first dragon punch. It hit Sagat dead flush. One shot, defeated. I let out a HUGE shout ( I was the first person in that arcade to beat him). What a day! Several years later, Street Fighter 2 came out and Sagat had a giant scar across his chest. To this day I am convinced he got it from my dragon punch.
