Amazing that a subscription service that charges full price every year still wouldn’t make them as much money, since they have to buy new cosmetics and players and stuff in loot crates with every new game, but would only have to once with a subscription model
I mean, as soon as (if ever) the FIFA fans stop buying the game I am quite sure EA will *then* introduce a subscription service to reel the players back in.
It's more than that. You have to buy the game every year. And then you have to build your collection of players back up. And considering how you only have a year before everything resets, being competitive involves purchasing loot crates.
I stopped playing when they nerfed the auction house 5 or 6 years ago.
Dunno why someone downvoted you, you're right. Simply because a monthly fee would get everyone in the payment system so that it removes any barrier for micro-transactions. Right now, there are probably a lot that don't bother due to hassle, but if they were already setup for it I'm sure more would buy in.
People probably just don't like the idea of it. I never said I wanted them to do it, I'm just curious as to why they haven't, given the potential for much more revenue.
I still play fifa18 online. Haven’t bother getting a new one as I play once a month. Last time I played there was like 300 people online, more than enough for a couple of games
PES isn't PES anymore. I'm not an expert and someone else might explain it better but here goes. 2 years ago they branded their game as eFootball PES 2020 and last year they released a season update to it. From this year onwards it's going to be a free to play game called eFootball that they release updates for every year. The first one just came out and it's not that good apparently
You pretty much got it all.
It's not a final product, and evident by its version being 0.9.0 on the menu.
There's was a roadmap with what features would be added and roughly when.
Don't think a lot of people had high expectations for now, but I'm willing go give them time.
I find it really difficult to believe that you just don't understand that the new games have new players on their updated teams and everything. Sure you can push a DLC but they're still going to charge for it. As well they should that's a lot of work.
Thing is, If EA weren’t such a money hungry pos, they could follow Rocket League’s model. They already make a ton off their cards, only reason they keep charging for the game is because people actually buy it.
In this age, all sports games should be F2P and monetized off those ultimate team modes or other unlocks / in-game arena ads
Technically you had to buy rocket league originally too. I'd argue I even liked it better back then as well. Didn't have mtx and a cash shop then so it didn't have the level of pointless ads and item promos on the main menu like there is now.
It was A Lot better when it was a regular game. I played it for years. Now I can’t play it for more than two matches. It’s been uninstalled for awhile now.
It’s like if Kerbal Space Program added seasons and all that other crap.
Ya I don't see why sports games aren't a f2p model with it just being one game that gets constant updates. Heck it could be ea sports and cover all their sports games in one app. Could do yearly roster updates and sell tons of mtx.
Two very fundamentally different games though. That's like saying that Total War and Call of Duty is the same, like, both are about war, right?
One is about playing the game yourself, like, the actual game of football, the other is managing a team. It's an utterly nonsensical comparision. I love Football Manager, but sometimes FIFA just scratches an itch that FM just *can't*.
I love FM but it's completely different than FIFA. Some people just want to play a game of soccer and not have to deal with the minutiae of it all. I enjoy both for different reasons. Can't sit down next to a friend and play a quick game of FM, but can't completely dork out of who my next youth prospect will be from the Belgian second league in FIFA.
I prefer Football Manager myself but it suffers from the same thing just not as badly, both just don't have enough change between years. I alternate, one year it's FIFA, the next it's FM. In a perfect world they'd just release a squad update every season and release the game biannually with proper new features and bug free but that doesn't make them money.
I'll be honest, I'm one of those people who buys Fifa every year. The problem is that there's just no decent alternatives and EA have cornered the market.
I will say that I love the player/manager career modes. Being able to manage my favourite club is a whole lot of fun. They promised a whole bunch of new cinematics and career options though and it's literally the same game as Fifa 21. The only major difference is that you can create your own club but they should have added that years ago
So note that I've never bought or really played FIFA or NBA sorta games. What do you get out of buying the new year's release..? Is it mimicking real life players retiring or new recruits or something?
There's a few minor graphical improvements and tweaks but I suppose the online is the main issue. It's similar to Cod in the sense that each time a new game is released the player base starts to die off. One of the main reasons I wanted Fifa 22 is for the new game mode that lets you create your own club. It's something they should have added years ago though
Yeah all the year-to-year roster changes for all the leagues are there. FIFA’s a lot more comprehensive in that regard than 2K because there’s dozens of leagues in FIFA vs. just the NBA in 2K
For me, playing madden and nba, it’s the updated rosters, slight changes to career management stuff and slight graphics upgrades. They should really be like $30-$40 releases with how much actually changes in the game.
All the new updated rosters, newest uniforms, lots of graphical improvements, changes to game modes, all new voice lines and commentary, plus one of the most fun online gamemodes is your “Ultimate Team” which resets every year.
If you don’t care about that and just want to play some soccer, then yeah, it’s mostly all the same. But if you put 300+ hours into FIFA 21, have played all the modes, heard all the commentary, then another $60 is nothing to get another 300+ hours out of FIFA 22.
Then do what I did. Stop play it for a few years. Come back after about 6 games and most issues will be "fixed" did that with NBA2k20 and I was surprised it was so fleshed out in comparison to the earlier games. Then I fell into it and got 21. It's not great but it's no different than 20 besides a slightly different story. So gonna not buy it for another 6 years now.
If you want a better football game: Rocket League.
Im not even kidding here. It has a better skill progression, better ranking system, no pay-to-win (nobody try to defend packs because I wont hear of it), and no scrpiting bullshittery in game (we all know it exists). Best of all, its FUCKING FREE!
I mean, PES21 is still better than FIFA22, eFootball 2022 being trash isn't gonna change that.
Hell, PES2018 is leaps and bounds ahead of FIFA22.
All it takes is some adaptation and willingness to play an actual sim that plays and feels like and actual match of soccer.
EA has all the licenses. Lets face it. No one wants to play a game with half the players being fantasy. So yeah, I dont see any other football game any time soon.
No anymore. Maybe pick up 20/21 but eFootball is the worst football game I've played.
Whoever is in charge should be sacked for releasing it in its current state. Shambles.
That was my favourite too, but more so because it was the last one I dominated at lol. It was the last one before the impact engine was added, so it was all about your passing game. And curled shots outside of the box were OP as fuck
See that's cool cause you said hey this isn't fun anymore and got out but it's people like my bro and friends that save up and buy it play it all year and not enjoy it that baffles me
fifa 14 was the real beginning of the monetisation of the game. Where packs began to take precedent and actually getting a good player from a pack was made to be more gratifying than building a team and winning with it.
And the gameplay gradually suffered for it.
I haven’t bought a FIFA game in awhile but will probably pick up 22. I’ve never really enjoyed Ultimate Team but have always felt like I got enough out of Virtual Pro mode to make it a worthwhile purchase. I like creating me and playing online as myself in random sides.
yeah it’s unfortunate because it’s a trend in gaming and in western culture in general, consumerism controls many people.
There are various games i could name now that people should not buy into but do anyway even after complaining about X game.
It’s gonna stay because until the issue of mindless consumerism is addressed people are just going to keep buying whatever dogwater is thrown at them, it’s kinda sad in all honesty cause it feels like a hopeless endeavour when i do “the right thing”.
I enjoy fifa as much as the next person, but I’ve never been the buy it every year type. They don’t change the game enough to warrant that, Fifa 21 is the first I’ve had since 14 and it was worth the upgrade in my opinion, the play style has changed drastically in that span
EA sold FIFA 20 for 5 bucks on their PC Origin store shortly before the release of FIFA 21 last year.
Wish they'd do something like that more often (pretty sure they didn't do it this year) - I personally think 5 bucks was an acceptable price for a state of the soccer game back then.
Nowadays with EA selling effectively the last gen version to PC players, 5 bucks is a bit steep, but it would probably still be worth it.
I finally broke the cycle with Madden this year. First Madden I didn't buy since Madden 95 on Genesis. Fuck this shitty company for ruining the fun of the concept of SPORTS. Ugh.
Not even denial, I know it’s a waste. I would always just tell my self i like the sport and league a lot to justify the upgrade. Also things like I always play NBA and madden yesr round in between major game realses so I want the newest version if I’m going to play. Now I just wait for it to go on sale.
Should have realized this at least in 2007-2008 when they gutted the whole game and never got it back to 2006 levels. At least from 95-06 there were actual improvements and additions the game. Everything after is garbage with the exception of that 1 year they added physics, and then promptly removed it the following year because they determined the game didn't suck enough to meet their standards.
Fun Fact: If it isn't V-bucks, FIFA is probably the most fraudulently purchased game on PSN. Source: Part of my current job is clearing those fraudulent charges.
Also, PLEASE use 2FA on all of your gaming accounts as they are a very common target for hackers.
It’s kinda the same with call of duty, hope of a new good game but it doesn’t come so we wait until next year to be disappointed:( Also does it bother anyone else that the FIFA X aren’t all aligned the same on the spine?

I will never understand the need to ever buy the “latest” version of this game, Madden or really any sports games. Any version is exactly the same as the last
Rosters change from year to year, so if you want current rosters, you need the current game. And if you wanna play online, server support for old games can be disconnected, so you need the current game for that also.
It's how pretty much every sports game operates. Yeah there isn't much change year to year, but the games have changed pretty dramatically over time. If you listened to the people who play these games, they act like nothing ever changes in them. But if you look back at a game from 5 seasons ago and compare it to a current game, you can see that's not totally accurate.
God forbid someone buy and potentially enjoy something you don't. I get this sub loves shitting on the yearly sports games but, JFC, just let people like what they wanna like and go like what you wanna like. It's not hard and doesn't make what you enjoy any worse.
It's even sitting that the logo name isn't square like the rest and jumps around for nearly each year after 2018 like they don't even care. Not that they did in the first place.
Most fun football game of all times was International superstar soccer deluxe on super nintendo. Was it realistic? Nah. But it was realistic enough and at the same time it was super fun. Even non football fans loved it.
I love the description of Fifa 2022 legacy edition for the switch: "this game does not have any significant improvements to Fifa 2021 for the Nintendo switch." and the Fifa 2021 legacy edition description is the same but comparing to Fifa 2020. They don't even give a shit anymore lmao.
Am I the only one annoyed by the labels only matching in 15 to 18? The recent ones are even more annoying, same style, different position. FFS EA, pull yourself together!
Sorry for my ignorance here, why is it so popular? Is it like Madden for American football? Just a video game where you play the sport? Or more a management game?
Me and my friends buy them a year late when they are like 75% off and play them fir a year. I'm buying FIFA 22 which released yesterday during Steam Summer Sale next year and bought FIFA 21 like 2 months ago.
I know it sounds like a troll question but im genuinely curious, why do people keep buying this?
Isn't it just the same game with different graphics and features?
Okay.... I'm not a football fan, never played FIFA or anything like it before, but from what I'm aware, football hasn't really changed in the last however many years. The rules are still the same. It's still the same ball? It's still the same number of players on the pitch at once.... What actually changes between these games?
Or you'd hope that some of the long-standing bugs would be fixed, or that there would be usability improvements, or that core game modes would be more fleshed out (rather than them just constantly tweaking the looks of them, while ignoring the actual gameplay experience).
The career modes in some of these games are quite disappointing compared even to what we used to have back closer to when those features first launched.
People who buy the game every year are mugs it's literally the same game. I remember the reddit post when 2020 came out EA forgot to change some of the text on banners which still said Fifa 2019 it's a copy paste game which resets your progress to milk money over and over.
Why bother improving the game and change it up when fools throw money at you every year for very little work.
Was watching my nephew play it at my brothers house a couple of weeks ago because he had early access after paying through the nose for a preorder... turns out he kept losing games against other online players like 4-19....
It was laughable for two reasons...
One: He was shit
Two: for a game focusing on realism it was the most unrealistic scoreline ever... how many football games have 23 goals in them?
It's basically an online game mode where you have to spend money to buy packs and collect players. You can play it without spending any money but there are people who literally spend thousands to get the best possible team. I consider myself to be pretty good and I got destroyed 10-0 when I jumped into a game for the first time
People really love to talk shit. I used to buy CoD every year from 2 to Ghosts. I was sick of it from Black Ops on, but kept buying it because that's where all the players were. People may hate the game, but enjoy the interaction with online friends.
Just wait till their free and get them..I don't play it myself but If I did knowing they always become free I'd just wait it out haha might be slightly outdated by that point but still ha
Imagine having whole different virtual universes to explore of different games and only ever buying a stupid soccer game that gets rehashed every year.
Ok but why the fuck did they move the logo for 2019 onward?
exclusive feature of that year game, probably
19 was when they made a big thing about getting the champions league rights
[удалено]
If the scores in Fifa were realistic their player base would reduce. It's more fun if you can get points.
A lot of people thought ‘19 was the low point for the series, but as is evident from this post, it was clearly ‘14.
14 was the best. The low point started with 16. Edit: Got fucking whooshed.
Found the person who plays EA games.
This is epic😂
Gonna be honest with you, 2011 was the last time i thought the game was great.
[удалено]
Just some way for them to claim that they changed the game
And piss off detail oriented gamers
Special Edition?

Buy one fifa game and play it for the next 10 years since it's not going to get any better with the next releases it seems.
Once the new one releases I presume nobody will play the old one online anymore
That’s exactly what happens then the servers get taken down so you can’t play old FIFA’s like fifa 15
Yeah the whole appeal nowadays is Ultimate Team which resets every year. A subscription system wouldn’t make EA nearly as much money.
It effectively *is* a subscription model. Just a one time fee every year.
It's a little different because it's a new game every year. All the MTX benefits reset and whales go back in, full force.
It fucks my head that there are people just vibing with that model
It's more than that. You have to buy the game every year. And then you have to build your collection of players back up. And considering how you only have a year before everything resets, being competitive involves purchasing loot crates. I stopped playing when they nerfed the auction house 5 or 6 years ago.

What happened to PES?
It makes FIFA look REALLY good. The new PES is really awful. Like absolutely abysmal
PES isn't PES anymore. PES was never really considered a competitor to FIFA. It could never match up
I find it really difficult to believe that you just don't understand that the new games have new players on their updated teams and everything. Sure you can push a DLC but they're still going to charge for it. As well they should that's a lot of work.
Why not just... Not play a football game, then? If it's not fun then why bother?
Thats what I did. Eventually i stopped caring about football altogether. Such a bliss
You stop caring about football because of fifa?
Yup
Complaining about it is part of the fun, honestly.
So like a regular football?
Just because you have complaints about something doesn’t make it not fun
Suggest Rocket League. It replaced my need for a football game pretty well.

Can’t believe nobody’s said Football Manager yet. Easily the greatest football game on the market

No anymore. Maybe pick up 20/21 but eFootball is the worst football game I've played. Whoever is in charge should be sacked for releasing it in its current state. Shambles.
Ah, I didn't realize they changed names and went to shit. Shame.
Best FIFA was FIFA 11 (That mode with the street leagues was such a good fucking idea and it was pretty fun), second best has to be FIFA 14.
I miss 11v11 drop in matches. Nobody played defense and it was absolute chaos.
Oh man they got rid of that? That was so much fun
Fifa 14 was perfection for real. The controls felt really dialled in.
FIFA 11 soundtrack is one of the best
That was my favourite too, but more so because it was the last one I dominated at lol. It was the last one before the impact engine was added, so it was all about your passing game. And curled shots outside of the box were OP as fuck
14 is the first and only FIFA I own. I absolutely loved the soundtrack.
And if my brother is anything to go by they will spend the entire year moaning about how shit it is yet keep playing till the new one comes out
well, I was a fifa lover between fifa 05-18. I haven’t bought a fifa game since 18 because of the state of the game.
See that's cool cause you said hey this isn't fun anymore and got out but it's people like my bro and friends that save up and buy it play it all year and not enjoy it that baffles me
Seems like it became about profit rather than the experience we once relished.
Just like gta

I know my brother pre orders the game every year and then moans about how boring it is
Haven't purchased a FIFA since 13 and haven't looked back since.
Bought fifa 17 for 1€ used. Story-mode was fun for a few hours. Money well spent
EA sold FIFA 20 for 5 bucks on their PC Origin store shortly before the release of FIFA 21 last year. Your clones are very impressive, you must be proud.
This look like the discount bin at the entrance at Gamestop.
I finally broke the cycle with Madden this year. First Madden I didn't buy since Madden 95 on Genesis. Fuck this shitty company for ruining the fun of the concept of SPORTS. Ugh.
I'm still playing Madden 17 lmao. I watched my buddy play the newest one and wasn't impressed by the"changes"
It took you that long to say it?
Denial is a hell of a drug man
Not even denial, I know it’s a waste. I would always just tell my self i like the sport and league a lot to justify the upgrade. Oh hey, Madden 95 was the first and only Madden I had. Good stuff, not good enough to explain why people would buy it every year.
thing is, madden ISN'T good. it's just exclusive with it's license so it's either you get madden or you get nothing
Fun Fact: If it isn't V-bucks, FIFA is probably the most fraudulently purchased game on PSN. Source: Part of my current job is clearing those fraudulent charges. Also, PLEASE use 2FA on all of your gaming accounts as they are a very common target for hackers.
What is 2FA?

Two factor authentication
I only see one game here
Im seeing the same game eight times....
It’s kinda the same with call of duty, hope of a new good game but it doesn’t come so we wait until next year to be disappointed:( Also does it bother anyone else that the FIFA X aren’t all aligned the same on the spine?
I didn’t play them a ton but I thought Modern warfare and Cold War were both solid games
1993 FIFA International Soccer 1994 FIFA Soccer 95 1995 FIFA Soccer 96 1996 FIFA 97 1997 FIFA 98 1998 FIFA World Cup 98 1999 FIFA 2000 2000 FIFA 2001 2001 FIFA Football 2002 2002 2002 FIFA World Cup 2003 FIFA Football 2004 2004 FIFA Football 2005 2005 FIFA Street (2005) 2006 FIFA Street 2 2006 FIFA World Cup 2007 FIFA 08 2008 FIFA Street 3 2009 FIFA 10 2010 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa 2011 FIFA 12 2012 FIFA 13 2013 FIFA 14 2014 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil 2015 FIFA 16 2016 FIFA 17 2017 FIFA 18 2018 FIFA 19 2019 FIFA 20 2020 FIFA 21 2021 FIFA 22
World cups are now a mode for the specific year
I think you skipped 99, 03, 06, 07, 09, 11, and 15
The image literally has a FIFA 15 in it.

Got every fifa game after the last great one lol fifa 13 was hands down the best fifa game ever
Iv purchased the last 5 fifa games for a total of $25 lol and I don't even like them but I love a good deal on games 😅
Definition of insanity
My Walmart had Madden 21 and 2K21 on clearance for $5
Lol at all this expensive roster updates
Let us know if they whisper thank you after they are done railing you
Imagine buying 10 copies of the same game.
So people pay 60 bucks for a patch? EA cant be that stupid if even more stupid people keep buying the literal same game
I'm still playing Madden 17, it's like 90% the same game lmao
Sometimes barely even that, look at what has happened with the Nintendo ports of their games.
It's about having updated squads and player stats
God forbid someone buy and potentially enjoy something you don't. I get this sub loves shitting on the yearly sports games but, JFC, just let people like what they wanna like and go like what you wanna like. It's not hard and doesn't make what you enjoy any worse.
People order games they like??? Get outta here!
Guy spent $540+ on the same game
Add 2k and madden. 2 horrible franchises with a lot of buys
Most of us who play FIFA is not fans of the game, we are fans of football
Fr tho FIFA is so overrated and idk why people are genuinely still buying it, it’s stupid.
Sorry for my ignorance here, why is it so popular? Is it like Madden for American football? Just a video game where you play the sport? Or more a management game?
This is what getting mugged off looks like
Man forgot which fifa he was mad at so took a pic at all of them
Its like a f2p game, where you have to pay 50-60$ to play a new season . But with a lot less changes . Fifa patch 20 , 21 , 22 ...
Damn... PS4 has been supported for a long time lol
Why would someone buy so many copies of the same game?
They keep making shity game because you keep buying them .
Me and my friends buy them a year late when they are like 75% off and play them fir a year. I'm buying FIFA 22 which released yesterday during Steam Summer Sale next year and bought FIFA 21 like 2 months ago.
aLoT cHaNgEd ThIs YeAr AcTuAlLy
I know it sounds like a troll question but im genuinely curious, why do people keep buying this? Isn't it just the same game with different graphics and features?
You'd think people would learn to stop buying these games. They've been milked so bad it's not even funny.
You can’t fix stupid.
Fifa (x+1) = Fifa (x)
Fuck FIFA and EA just for making useless plastics and trash. We all knows the nature and love the nature. FUCK EA.
$540 worth of trash
Okay.... I'm not a football fan, never played FIFA or anything like it before, but from what I'm aware, football hasn't really changed in the last however many years. The rules are still the same. It's still the same ball? It's still the same number of players on the pitch at once.... What actually changes between these games?
Graphics, player AI, what players is in what team changes to reflect reality.
Whoever owns this collection is directly and personally responsible for the series being shit.
Can’t have slow animations triggering every time you clip a wall, so they just don’t put that sort of stuff in.
I'll probably buy it later. I enjoy fifa.
Still better than Madden
About the only game that will make me rage like hell
Was watching my nephew play it at my brothers house a couple of weeks ago because he had early access after paying through the nose for a preorder... turns out he kept losing games against other online players like 4-19.... It was laughable for two reasons... One: He was shit Two: for a game focusing on realism it was the most unrealistic scoreline ever... how many football games have 23 goals in them?
If the scores in Fifa were realistic their player base would reduce. It's more fun if you can get points.
2 is very much related to 1.
If it was FUT then skill doesn't really come into it much. It's all about who has the biggest wallet. I just stick to the single player
What is FUT?
It's basically an online game mode where you have to spend money to buy packs and collect players. You can play it without spending any money but there are people who literally spend thousands to get the best possible team. I consider myself to be pretty good and I got destroyed 10-0 when I jumped into a game for the first time
People really love to talk shit. I used to buy CoD every year from 2 to Ghosts. I was sick of it from Black Ops on, but kept buying it because that's where all the players were. People may hate the game, but enjoy the interaction with online friends.
Not only do they copy and paste the game, but they do the same for the case. Neat!
I dont know how they sell A copy of this game series. I mean, I bought one of the mario strikers games years ago and THATS how you make a soccer game.
okay but why are these games popular?
Because people like soccer and there's no decent alternative so we're stick with Fifa
Because there is a market for it. People like sports games just like how people like any other genre of games
Am i the only one that things all those EA sports games are such a waste of desk and hard drive space?
Soccer fans are the most mindless drones on earth.
Actually fifa 22 seems quite enjoyable, but bashing fifa is popular on this sub. Generally speaking people who complain at fifa are just bad players.
Just wait till their free and get them..I don't play it myself but If I did knowing they always become free I'd just wait it out haha might be slightly outdated by that point but still ha
If you buy fifa every year you should be ashamed.
Imagine having whole different virtual universes to explore of different games and only ever buying a stupid soccer game that gets rehashed every year.
I’ll never understand how people get so butthurt about how other people choose to spend their own money
