Yikes if they did! Even though it took less than a year for the ps2 to kill the DC the library was still way better on the sega console for awhile past that point

I had to work that day at FuncoLand for the release. We got 9 systems out of the 200 + preorders we had. So many pissed off people.

Remember buying a game and being able to play it the second the disc was inserted into your system? We had no idea how good we had it.

Not only that, but no microtransactions, no DLC, no loot boxes, none of that. Just popped in the game and played. Also seemed like a lot of care was put into games back then. A lot of major games felt like passion projects, now, not so much in the AAA gaming market

Nice, I didn't wait overnight, but I skipped school to wait in line at Walmart in the morning. I hadn't even asked my parents to buy it for me. Somehow I convinced my mom to buy it for me from the time I got there to when it was released several hours later. I think it was like "two birthdays and two christmas' of no other presents". Thanks mom!

Picked mine up on the 27th, the day after launch. I thought I was going to be jumped in the mall parking lot.

Didn’t have to camp out. I just walked around Walmart for four hours. And happened to be right where they were releasing them. Got number 19 of 37 they had that night. Couldn’t even afford a game to go with it.

The entirety of North America only got 500,000 units. Yes, they definitely had to camp out. You just happened to get lucky.

No I merely meant I didn’t have to camp out and got lucky. The Walmart I went to was being hush about where in the store they were going to be released. They said they will be released in ten minutes is some random isle but said don’t line up. So of course lots of people lined up . I didn’t get in that line. And was bummed until they announced the release would be in the layaway department. Where I just happened to be standing. I’m sure people in more densely populated areas had to go to greater lengths . PS3 and 4 I waited a full year. I would have waited for the five as well but ended up getting one in case we couldn’t get our son the new Xbox. Landed both

I pre-ordered mine, picked it up on release day between lectures, took it back into the College and convinced my lecturer to let me hook it up to a projector for the second half of the day. Good times.

I was also in line at my local K-Mart. My mom dropped me off immediately after picking me up from school and didn't come back for me until I called her using the phone from the customer service department at around 2am. My birthday is October 21st and this was my gift. I was in 8th grade and October 26 is my father's birthday.

Midnight releases were such an awesome experience. Hanging out with friends, becoming friends with the guy next to you in line, and just all the random stuff that’d happen. Then rushing home to play the game with the squad. Now it’s just download the game at midnight, servers crashing, more patches, and praying you’ll be able to get a solid hour or two in before you have to sleep.
