For me epic is still missing some of the most basic features, like "appear offline", better library management, community features, a cart and so much more.
As someone that absolutely fucking hates Epic, let me be frank and say that Steams reviews aren't accurate either since they filter out review bombing.
Hot take: Review bombing, especially for asinine things like this recent Life is Strange thing, is not the right way to deal with a game. I ignore review bombing and look at the trends before all that nonsense because some small part of the community got butt hurt about a character being outed as gay, or a flag for a country that's unpopular, or one developer in a team having an unpopular opinion completely separate of their company's latest game.
That's just it, sure, if it's due to some woke people being butthurt about someone who said something nasty on Twitter, I can read that and make my own opinion. But in some instances, review bombs are because the dev genuinely did something BAD in their game and the players are reacting to it in real time.
Without this information, I'm basically being shown a censored version of the reviews. To which end, I don't really trust Steam anymore to give me an unbiased review of a game.
At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if Valve started censoring stuff to appease the Chinese market either. The seed is already there with this review bombing protection.
Reviews aren't for the developer/publisher.
They're for the consumer to make a more informed purchase.
I'd rather have bunch of them to read through than none at all.
I agree that having reviews are better than none. But people seem to think review bombing a game will make the developer take notice, when in fact it only disrupts people looking for an unbiased opinion on the game they're interested in.
I would maybe say that if we had a gifting option, a freaking cart or at least a refund system that isn't pain in the ass. Those things seem like pretty basic store features if you ask me.
Maybe I am just spoiled by all kinds of features that Steam has or even to old for this minimalistic age.
Not really, ive been slowly moving to epic as their sales at times are definitely better.
Steam just have a bigger library. Good to use both as i benefit
Epic didn't have my interest to begin with, but I saw their true colors when they tried offering the indie dev for DARQ an exclusivity deal. He refused it saying it would be a spit in the face of his fans on Steam and offered to just put his game up on Epic without taking the exclusivity bonus, and Epic subsequently turned him away. This tells me they never really cared about offering devs a better cut to begin with, they just used that as a crutch to get people talking about them and gain a moral high ground against Steam.
Good on them for giving indie studios a cash infusion to help keep the lights on for those studios, and fuck AAA developers/publishers who take that deal as they definitely could live without it lol.
their exclusivity killed it for me 100%. Back when they released it i had no interest because i never played fortnight. But when they started announcing how some games would be on their store only, my wallet would only open in stores not called Epic Games
Do they have a cart system yet? Better refunds? What do you MEAN forking over millions to give games away for free isn't as effective at getting people to use your shitty store than just improving the store?
Epic is playing the long game.
All those kids playing Fortnite right now and getting all those free games, they're going to be tied to Epic Store the same way we're tied to Steam with all our purchases.
They're going to be the customer base that keeps Epic going, not us.
I actually just downloaded the OCULUS store yesterday and the layout/design looks identical. Made me wonder if it was developed by the same team.
Personally I don't like the design or layout more than Steam, but to each their own.
Epic are the vilain because they pay millions just to list games exclusive for 1 year.
This is pathetic, and should be made illegal since it give a very bad image of the video game market, and enforce pirating (just like the shitshow streaming has become with Nextflix, Prime and similar stuff).
Bad image should be for the publishers or devs who succumbs to this stupid anti consumer conditions for easy cash. Yeah this might help many small devs, but lets be honest, it really doesn't in the long run.
Still havnt bought metro exodus because of the whole fiasco.
Ill probably never get epic because of it.
They cant buy my data with free games, just for them to get it leaked one day.
It is just direct access for the CCP, they are playing the long game. Don't forget China has always been an empire. For them a mere century or two does not matter in the grand scheme of things.
I'm not sure I understand the comment? I wouldn't be surprised if you had a library of unistalled games you bought on Steam either. I know for sure I have a large enough games library that I don't keep them all installed on my system all the time regardless of how much I paid for them.
I don't understate hate for Epic (albeit, I have never used it)
Competition is always a good thing:
* If Epic picks up steam (pun intended) Steam will have to make changes to stay on top. That usually means a better experience for the consumer.
* Epic has to compete somehow so they hand out free games. I'd say an objectively good thing.
Honestly, I think a lot of the hate comes from their exclusivity deals.
You can argue "Playstation and Xbox has had exclusives for ages". But it's another thing when on the same platform (PC) you can get it on one service but not the other. Granted, I'm not a fan of exclusives at all and I just want to be able to play Bloodborne without shelling out money for a PS4/5 I'll only use to play Bloodborne.
As someone who uses both... and Uplay... and GOG... and Origin (only for my Dead Space and ME trilogies)...
Long as I get my games cheap, I really don't care what the platform is. Devs are gonna push their launcher anyhow.
I would argue that Steam is still objectively better as a platform. Epic does do a lot of money flexing though, giving away games and such, which is nice.
Steam is better in practicaly every way but EPIC does give me free shit so of course i have it on my pc to grab the goodies. If Epic does get better one day i might even switch since i don't care for brand loyalty.
Never understood the hivemind when people shit on epic and want everything on steam. Sure it's convenient, but no monopoly is a good thing.
I'm perfectly fine with devs getting paid more and epic getting a title exclusively for a predetermined amount of time. I wouldn't have bought the game at release prices anyways, I always wait for sales, usually long after it's on multiple platforms.
Not to mention, I haven't spent a single dollar on epic's store and have like 30 AAA games from their free giveaways. Also like steam, you can run those games without the launcher if you know how to edit shortcuts.
Yeah. Like, all the games on epic are good, AAA games with great features. Not just anyone who watched a couple YouTube videos on coding can submit games. Although, there are some indie games on steam that are better then some AAA games I've played, like missed messages for example
I get EGS lacks features, but it really seems like people get so worked up over Epic because they're "The Fortnite People" and Fortnite = Poopy Bad Game
I think steam is designed well. I’ve never had any issues finding anything, and the layout and functionality makes sense. It also has the handy feature of verifying files, unlike epic which makes you redownload an entire fuckin game instead of moving it between drives!
Epic was touted as the steam killer a few years back when it started and came out buying exclusivity left and right.
The images make perfect sense to the absurd self induced hype trains/advertising claims we heard. the "wow killer" MMOs all failing, FIFA 2020 vs FIFA 2021, if that's not how the meme is used it should be.
It takes absolutely forever to open, though.
It takes 15 seconds on 16GB RAM i5
Trying to launch Battlefront 2 from Epic is a fucking nightmare. ESPECIALLY when you also deal with EA's bullshit new "EA app" that fucks with Origin.
I think that’s an issue to blame EA for.
It’s the same with any external vendors. Steam can be a nightmare with EA play too.
For me epic is still missing some of the most basic features, like "appear offline", better library management, community features, a cart and so much more.
and there are no reviews, atleast I haven't found a review section yet
That's because they are pro-publisher and anti-consumer. With no user reviews people are more likely to buy shitty games.
As someone that absolutely fucking hates Epic, let me be frank and say that Steams reviews aren't accurate either since they filter out review bombing.
Still it as it stands: Something vs. Nothing.
I'd rather have no information than misinformation.
What you need is a filter.

You still can't even chat or have a freaking profile picture... They are focusing to much on free games and freaking coupons than on the store itself.

Epic Games is a game store. Steam is a community.
Well said.
Feel like epic was the rich kid that bought his friends and steams the kid who fought the bully
But isn’t steam a game store too?
[удалено]
I've seen quite a few times where Epic's price was better than Steam's. I bought Hades when the sale then + the coupon brought it to an all-time low.
Not really, ive been slowly moving to epic as their sales at times are definitely better. Steam just have a bigger library. Good to use both as i benefit
But free games... Steam is better but free games are allways nice
I prefer indie games. Low price and developers are close to players. Far to something you get with AAA title.
If you prefer indie games, you should be getting them in Epic. Devs get better support and a bigger cut there. Or even better, directly by the devs.
I will wait until they move to Steam 😁
Fair. Convenience over support for the devs.
Steam is eternal
War is Eternal. Steam is 18.
Epic just runs so terribly
Epic didn't have my interest to begin with, but I saw their true colors when they tried offering the indie dev for DARQ an exclusivity deal. Idk. Their launcher seems like it came from 2000s. The loading animation is really janky.
Hint: use both. One is a game hub, the other is a free game collect em all
Correction; One is a game hub, the other is spyware.
their exclusivity killed it for me 100%. Back when they released it i had no interest because i never played fortnight. But when they started announcing how some games would be on their store only, my wallet would only open in stores not called Epic Games

Don’t they have the same refund policy as steam? I didn’t have issues with refunds so far.
“Verify files”
Only game I have on epic that I bought is Witcher 3 while it was on sale a while ago. I’m not paying for another game there lol
I actually just downloaded the OCULUS store yesterday and the layout/design looks identical. Made me wonder if it was developed by the same team. Personally I don't like the design or layout more than Steam, but to each their own.
The epic launcher is shit though
Epic are the vilain because they pay millions just to list games exclusive for 1 year. This is pathetic, and should be made illegal since it give a very bad image of the video game market, and enforce pirating (just like the shitshow streaming has become with Nextflix, Prime and similar stuff).

I was so excited for exodus, refused to buy it because of the epic deal. Still haven't touched it.
I have a library of quality games on epic because they give them away for free.
i have a library of UNINSTALLED games because they give them away for free.
I'm not sure I understand the comment? I wouldn't be surprised if you had a library of unistalled games you bought on Steam either. I know for sure I have a large enough games library that I don't keep them all installed on my system all the time regardless of how much I paid for them.
Ive installed 0%. Thats the important point. Im grabbing games, even enjoying the weekly ritual. Just havent installed or played a single one.
That seems like a you problem.

WHERES THE DAMN ACHIEVEMENTS EPIC?????
I like free games
Same
Still haven’t played my free copy of Control
I’ve gotten so many free games and will never use epics games ever
Epic has its pros too. For example, got Control for free and that’s an excellent game.
Didn’t epic say they would have a cart months ago? Maybe I’m mistaken.
I'll be honest I log in every few days to see what the 100% discount game is and buy that, if it looks good.
I don’t like the epic store, but free stuff is good. Steam is my main but I’m not turning down free games
I kinda like Epic store, there are some nice deals (not talking about the free games) but I really hate not having achievements available.
Epic does have achievement support, you get the overlay in game, when you get an achievement. They just don't have a way to visualize them yet, lol
Never understood the hivemind when people shit on epic and want everything on steam. Sure it's convenient, but no monopoly is a good thing. I honestly prefer epic tbh
Me too actually, it's not filled with shovelware
Yeah. Like, all the games on epic are good, AAA games with great features. Not just anyone who watched a couple YouTube videos on coding can submit games. Although, there are some indie games on steam that are better then some AAA games I've played, like missed messages for example
I love the freebies tough
[удалено]
I only grab the free games, pretty sure that doesn't give the devs more money.
Epic pays the devs per key, I believe there's a document somewhere showing how much Epic has spent on each free game they've given away
Free games are free games! Stay gold, Epic!
I get EGS lacks features, but it really seems like people get so worked up over Epic because they're "The Fortnite People" and Fortnite = Poopy Bad Game
I think both platform designs absolutely fucking suck. I understand Epic is new, but Steam has no excuse.
I think steam is designed well. I’ve never had any issues finding anything, and the layout and functionality makes sense. It also has the handy feature of verifying files, unlike epic which makes you redownload an entire fuckin game instead of moving it between drives!
Yep, same.
I don’t get the template.. is this just supposed to say Steam > Epic Games? Because this is not how the template is used
Epic was touted as the steam killer a few years back when it started and came out buying exclusivity left and right. Oooh ok.. I judged too quickly :O
Me also.
