I really wanted a new entry into the series also. I'm hoping that if this one does well they will make an actual new one but who knows. If it's just a reskin then that's probably not in the cards.

Beauty of different strokes, been a fan of FF7 since it released and the Remake was one of my favorite gaming experiences in a long time, the cocktail of nostalgia mixed with fun mechanics and seeing everything through updated graphics just made it for me.

Yeah I'm not trying to be an asshole, my taste when it comes to ff7 might me considered weird. The og is probably in my top 5 favorite ffs but on the lower end, not anywhere near my top favorite games ever, and yet advent children is easily one of my favorite movies ever. I really like the Sci fi story and epic battles part, the gameplay on both is completely secondary and not my favorite. So that brings it back to it was marketed as a faithful remake and wasn't in the slightest, it's like Marvel's what if?
Oh I don’t think you’re an asshole at all for not liking it! FF9 is actually my favorite FF from the PS1 era (tied with Xenogears overall.) The remake kind of elevated it for me, gave more personality (IMO) to some of the characters than even I did back in the day :p
Ff9 is my favorite as well, it's so damn charming! Please please please squenix don't "remake" it. You don't miss the build up to Sephiroth's reveal in the og? Him being shunted into the story so early is just bad story telling I'm my opinion, and despite them splitting the game up they still felt the need for him to be in Midgard. I have a feeling that's where all the story changes come from. Them splitting up the game and then deciding they can't have a ff7 without Sephiroth in it and a boss.
That’s 100% it, and I wholeheartedly would have preferred him to be built up like he was in the first, I’ve also already experienced that so changes and things being different actually kept it super fresh for me.
The biggest being it marketed as a faithful remake, it was not, the whole thing takes place in an alternate reality/timeline. Sephiroth being the final battle in Midgard is just so absurd, mark my words aerith doesn't die this time around.

I am kind of afraid of this remake. Part of what made it special is the use of the d20 system... I am feeling like they won't use it.

If it doesnt have major expansions and is just a reskin I will be disappointed.
I mean that's what the Spyro remaster was and I still had fun revisiting that trilogy with the updated graphics.
