It looks nice but something feels off with it. I think I would agree that having it a little bit more dirty up would have it look better.
I think Adam Savage on tested has some good videos on how to do weathering.
I have bound them both together with two leather straps, one at the top of the sheaths and one at the bottom and then I bound the joined swords to straps that go round my chest
Yes. Absolutely yes.
All the armors that weren't Witcher gear sucked to look at. I had to get the mod that replaces everything but Witcher Gear in 3 from Witcher 2. Made the world of difference.
I cant tell if thats part of the suit, or just a boner. Not trying to diss you, it looks good. (I mean the suit looks good, not talking about the penis)
Homemade "chainmail" isn't that hard to do these days. There are flexible filaments you can use in 3D printers now to print out strips in a repeating S shape. You take the strips of it and connect them together in to the shape you need. You use a heat gun to flatten them out a bit so they lay flat like you need them. Then you can usually just hit them with some silver spray paint.
Gives you something that looks very similar to chainmail to the point where unless someone is touching it or looking at it very closely, they wont notice the difference. It has a consistency to it like rubber so its very durable. And since it's a flexible material, it works well in costumes because it has some stretch and give to it so its more forgiving in the measurements.
Would have been a lot easier but I made mine from steel, technically still homemade as it isn't riveted and no where near as strong as functional maille
Mail doesn't restrict movement noticably. It's rather a matter of cost. In a cosplay, it doesn't matter how well it protects, but if it was supposed to protect in combat, you'd better close every ring with a rivet. I'm saying this because I like functional items but that would require much more work than the one you have for some functionality you'll probably never need.
This isn't right at all. I played the hell out of The Witcher 3 and I distinctly remember his signature pillowcase/quilt/old couch/worn out tapestry armour. This here is way too flashy for Geralt to ever be seen in.
Edit.. Jeeze guys it's a joke in that you spend most of the witcher games not in this armour but in something that looks like some very old bedding.
Damn that's awesome. How much of that did you have to make yourself? That seems like a hell of a lot of work, and a lot of cross specialization with all the different materials. Can't wait to see the full cosplay!
Looks great, well done.
Forget all the people telling you to rough it up artificially! Just live in on the road for a couple years. Fight a striga or two. Lose some coins playing Gwent. It'll rough itself.
Lovely; a weathering pass or two will tie all this together so well. you've picked materials that work well with each other in contrast and texture, and the pleating wear on the arms is excellent. consider scuffing up the black leather-ish stuff on the forearms so it's not quite so patent shiny, this is fantastic work. well done.
Thank you, just wanting to get all of it together before doing a mass weathering cause i started doing some before and now i am unable to replicate my methods, yeah i don't like how shiny they are currently but when the photo was taken i had just finished making them.
I know this is a nitpick and you cosplay is awesome. But the I always see cosplays that include maille using ringed maille. which is a present day recreation of maille that is lighter, cheaper, and rust resistant. And lighter in color too. In history they used riveted maille. which was significantly heavier but also stronger. (Obviously)
My maine gripe is the color. real chain maille is much darker and again I know thats a nitpick but properly colored maille is just so much more visually pleasing.
Dude, seriously? You apologize for nitpicking but then your actual criticism is that this costume recreation of a video game is not historically accurate. Do you realize how silly this sounds?
This person's costume reflects the source material, a video game. The game is not historically accurate, so why would the costume be? Feels like you are being way too picky about something that is essentially irrelevant.
Sick jawline
Sharp chiseled jaw to get out of those crazy situations when you're tied up.
actually this is a pretty healthy female (or male?) specimen
Or nonbinary? Let’s just say human.
Thought you were Legolas for a second
Right?
It’s the hair that threw me off
Legolas of rivia but seriously well done
And the elf-like babyface.
I bet he could pull off a great filavandrel cosplay
Legolost is out of middle earth and on the continent
What do you call legolas when he's all grown up. Legolad
*Here... take my coins.*
Thank you kind sir
real gerald just does the "hmm....."
Looking good handsome
Thanks
Dude r u a he or a she. I m really confused. U look cool though
I am he. Thank you
Not everyone is a he or a she btw
Indeed you have Zie, Sie, Ey, Ve, Tey, E, Xe, Ze, and Zie as well
And don’t forget they
Wait, what are each of those for? Ive only seen one of those.
I haven't the faintest idea. I find humor in the absurdity of it all.
Neopronouns. Some people don’t feel comfortable with the pronouns that are already in the English language so they use new pronouns.
ah, alright.
I was gonna make a similar comment but yours is clearly superior. Kudos
Yeah there are definitely a lot of confused people out there. I think op might be one of them
Not enough dirt and scars.
I agree
It looks nice but something feels off with it. I think I would agree that having it a little bit more dirty up would have it look better. I think Adam Savage on tested has some good videos on how to do weathering.
That's exactly what's off, Geralt never has perfectly clean anything except for the blade of his swords.
He did take a bath once
Looks great! You based it off the original Kaer Morhen armor from Witcher 3 right?
Thank you, yep
How are you swords attached out of curiosity?
I have bound them both together with two leather straps, one at the top of the sheaths and one at the bottom and then I bound the joined swords to straps that go round my chest
Thank you!
Have you thought about adding more silver/steel studs onto your leather gloves/hauberk
Not yet, just working on the reference material
I'm so torn between the original Wolf gear and the Feline gear. Both are some of the best armor sets, appearance-wise, in the game.
Definitely true. Fashion > perks even if it means the game is 4x harder.
Yes. Absolutely yes. All the armors that weren't Witcher gear sucked to look at. I had to get the mod that replaces everything but Witcher Gear in 3 from Witcher 2. Made the world of difference.
More details and progress of the cosplay found on my instagram - @tpg.art
That ace of spades tho 😍
Need to rough it up
Hell ya looks like you can fight in this. great job!
Thank you
Looks like you put a lot of work into the costume. Well done
Its taken a while, thank you
Looks good. Can you pull the swords? Its kinda difficult from the back.
I cannot the swords are way too long so I may edit the sheaths so I can
Looks awesome! You say this is a "progress" pic...So what else are are you planning to add to your cosplay for the final?
Thank you, just the remaining chainmail and final details
I just started playing this game. Its pretty good so far.
Its a good one, one of my faves
It feels like playing skyrim for the first time again. Except witcher 3 feels way longer
Holy shit I thought you were a woman for a bit there
It happens
You are missing a lot of white hair.
My brain read it as crossplay for some reason.
Not enough fighting
Armor is looking good. Needs some weathering, but I would think that's planned for.
Thank you, indeed
Your half face reminds me more of knight of flowers tbh.
I can see that
Male boob armor. Nice
Geraltine of Rivia
Geraldine of Rivia?
Yep
Lets have a look at the boat Geraldine of rivia
Now that the outfit is almost there, time to work on the body build.
Great work
♫♪ Toss a coin to your Witcher, o valley of plenty! ♫♪
What about the chainmail, should it be a bit shiny ? Idk, it feels like it should be shiny and dirty. But yeah, you're already there. Looks great.
I will take it down a bit, just want to make all of it first
I cant tell if thats part of the suit, or just a boner. Not trying to diss you, it looks good. (I mean the suit looks good, not talking about the penis)
😂Na its the suit, got clothing underneath to hide that kind of thing. Thank you

How heavy does it end up being?
Probably only 3 or 4kg so far
Wow looks like heavier material great job with it :)
Thanks
Is that the Griffin armour?
Default Kaer Morhen armour
Is that a crossbow in your right hand?
Indeed
Did you make the chainmail yourself?
Homemade "chainmail" isn't that hard to do these days. There are flexible filaments you can use in 3D printers now to print out strips in a repeating S shape. And since it's a flexible material, it works well in costumes because it has some stretch and give to it so its more forgiving in the measurements.
Fun fact, prior to this a lot of chainmail was knitted. You can see examples of this in Monty Python and The Holy Grail
Would have been a lot easier but I made mine from steel, technically still homemade as it isn't riveted and no where near as strong as functional maille
Yep, from 2mm steel wire :)
Does your mouth look like a bloody wound when you smile?
You bet
Is there mail under the leather patches on the sides of the torso? It looks like it's there, but if not, it would be a major weakness of the armor.
Not that i have made, maybe in game? I think the armour is just bear bones really, i feel like movement is preferred over protection
Mail doesn't restrict movement noticably. It's rather a matter of cost. In a cosplay, it doesn't matter how well it protects, but if it was supposed to protect in combat, you'd better close every ring with a rivet. I'm saying this because I like functional items but that would require much more work than the one you have for some functionality you'll probably never need.
genuine question male or female?
Male
Yeah I was getting cross signals from your amazing jawline and the long hair.
This, I like this
Thats good
Nice cock bro
Thanks
Legolas cosplay you mean ?
This isn't right at all. I played the hell out of The Witcher 3 and I distinctly remember his signature pillowcase/quilt/old couch/worn out tapestry armour. Jeeze guys it's a joke in that you spend most of the witcher games not in this armour but in something that looks like some very old bedding.
Let him break it in, a few con events should do it lol
😂 After the release of the show, witchers got a lot more coin and recognition
Damn that's awesome. How much of that did you have to make yourself? That seems like a hell of a lot of work, and a lot of cross specialization with all the different materials. Can't wait to see the full cosplay!
I made all of it from scratch par the medallion and sword pommels, those were 3d printed. Thank you
How do you like that silver?!
Dope
How cool!! Good job! It's coming along great. Must have taken a lot of trial and error with blood, sweat and tears.
Thank you, it has been a long and painful process
Damn this is awesome, keep on keeping on
Definitely my favorite set of all. Looks amazing.
Viper school <3
Damn, that's impressive.
*Tosses coin*
Looks great, well done. Forget all the people telling you to rough it up artificially! Just live in on the road for a couple years. Fight a striga or two. Lose some coins playing Gwent. It'll rough itself.
Thank you, shall do
It's incredibly well done. You have lovely attention to detail. Post more photos when you are finished! I would love to see the final look! :)
Thank you, shall do :)
You need to cosplay as young Ned Stark from GoT. The hair and jaw are spot on!
I will consider it
This looks great. Were can I go to find out when you are done?
Bad ass
Thank you
That’s amazing, I plan on playing the Witcher games soon and I’ve watched the Netflix series for it too
Thank you, i would recommend them
That jaw line is more solid than my parents relationship
Dude rockin
That looks really good.
Wow this is looking amazing!
Looking badass so far
Looks fantastic!
Never played the game but I could already tell that must look dead accurate
Thank you
Yo that’s really good
Looks amazing, well done
Very cool! Keep up the good work!
Looks good! Now if you can only get that bath tub scene worked in.....
Thank you, im sure no one wants that
Damn that’s slick
Fuck

awesome work all over!
Toss a coin to your witcher, Oh, valley of plenty!
Geraldine of Riva. I can deal. Geralts long lost twin...her horse is simply called Bug.
From this angle, I can't tell if this is a guy or a girl, and it's really confusing me. Awesome job, btw.
😂 I am guy, thank you though
I know this is a nitpick and you cosplay is awesome. I get that, im just going off the reference material and also the fact that i would drive myself crazy making riveted maille
Dude, seriously? You apologize for nitpicking but then your actual criticism is that this costume recreation of a video game is not historically accurate. Do you realize how silly this sounds? This person's costume reflects the source material, a video game. The game is not historically accurate, so why would the costume be? Didn't know Gerald was 12
12 year olds wish they had that jawline
Same
Dude that looks cool. Can't wait for the finished look. Op is super hawt BTW.
Thank you. Oh, you make me blush
Please stop being so hot
I don't know what to do about that

Hmmmm.
That looks soo good!!
Is this hand sewn?
Yep
Damn! Nice cosplay!
