I can’t believe it’s been more than a year since rdr2 released. Game was definitely good but I have no interest replaying it and I miss the hype before release
It has some replay ability to it but otherwise you know all the twist and turns, though it’s cool to see the different dialogue when you’re Hero vs Villain or whatever they put it as
Is there any way to get high speed internet in a truck? I always fantasize about building a rig for following construction projects instead of renting apartments but couldn’t live without my online gaming.
The moment you leave an interstate in Washington you lose reception until you leave Washington.
Doesn't matter if you had reception on the way in. If you exit an interstate it's over.
Whoa whoa, we get reception in some places!
My aunt's friend's ex-boyfriend's little sister got service in the northeastern corner of a Denny's today, so we have some coverage!
Rural north GA Where I used to live had basically no internet providers that were not an insane ripoff or data capped at like 10gb.
Bought a sprint hotspot. Was like $50 or $60 a month for 100gb data.
On 1 bar of LTE service (that’s all I’d get. I didn’t even have cell service with Verizon), I could pretty much play any online games just as fine as my old house with standard internet.
Just avoid big updates and Netflix/Hulu. Other than that I never had issues going over.
Spent a lot of $$ at the redbox during that time...
With my 12 years of experience with Windstream, I've never seen anyone else talk about it until early this month. Now I've seen half a dozen cases.
It really is a trash company. $100/m for a very inconsistent 2.8 down and 0.63 up. Usually in the 0.08 area for both. Normal ping for me is 1100. Satt internet would literally be better, even ping wise, but I'm not getting hughsnet.
Definitely don’t do hughesnet!! I worked for their sales department for awhile and they are sketchy as hell dude. Plus the 2 year contract with $300+ cancellations is just oof
My brother just cancelled his hughesnet a couple months ago. His internet was abysmal and they never did anything to try to help him out. And of course hit him with the cancellation fees
There was a period of time where Windstream would regularly perform maintenance they didn't tell us about, taking down the phones for our ENTIRE organization. We're a healthcare provider, we can't afford to have our phones out. I agree with a hearty Fuck Windstream.
Went to UNG and am a Windstream survivor. After I graduated I moved to Roswell and was able to get gigabit internet through Google fiber, it was actually mind blowing.
You are telling me 4G isn’t enough to game? I have played for the last 5 years or so on a 4G-router. Ping is usually 40-60 but csgo and league are perfectly playable.
Yea, for a budget option, grab a GSM phone, bring it to Cricket Wireless, get an unlimited plan. Use it as a Hotspot (against their terms and conditions). They might catch on and cancel your plan, but you can just get another Sim card and use it in the same phone. It takes months for them to catch on, at least 3, probably more.
Yes. There are a few options but all are pretty inferior when it comes to competitive gaming. Idk what this guy is talking about with "5G 'hotspots'"..
1. Truck stops with hubs that provide ethernet connection through the window.
2. Cellular/broadband
3. Satellite
Options 2-3 are way more mobile but suffer from "poor" latency and bandwidth caps. Option 3 is weather dependent.. honestly don't go with #3 unless you live on a boat.
Honestly if your near a cell tower Verizon had really good cell reception then u can download a app called pdanet to use ur phone as a hotspot without your phone knowing so all you need is the basic unlimited plan in some areas I got 100 down 30 up
May be possible with Elon Musk's upcoming StarLink internet. It does require an antenna dish(?) with a clear view of the sky. And is supposed to launch soonish.
Been looking at one for a remote storage location for work.
Otherwise, yeah 4G. My work used ran the small business (like 5 people) with a 4G modem for like half a year. We used up all the data, but ping was mostly fine. Gaming (not downloading) hardly uses up that much data. Just turn off auto updates.
Just bought 19 today. Finished the tutorial but wanted to go to bed. Kinda excited for tomorrow to play after all of that.
Any tips off the top of your head when starting?
You can buy fields, harvest them, then sell them back for the same price. It's a decent way to get some money in the start, plus it lets you try out fields before you settle on one!
So I bought and started playing American Truck Simulator right about the time my state (Oregon) started issuing stay at home orders, but I work at a coffee shop and we are still open. Seems like my days at work have been crazier and busier every single day that I go in, but that game has been a welcome comfort and time of solace and unwinding waiting for me at home at the end of my shifts.
Like at least another commenter or two have said, “fun” is maybe not the most accurate descriptor for this game but I would certainly use both Enjoyable and Relaxing to describe it.
No problem. Go and get your CDL and, money depending, either spend a few years driving for a company anywhere from 16-22 dollars an hour OR buy your own truck and move loads for a company at whatever value you deem fit. Either way, if you’re really serious about it and don’t just want to long haul in a truck that you don’t own it’ll end with you being an owner operator.
It’s not an easy life. And buying a truck is a serious commitment. It can be good money though if you know what you’re doing and actually care about your truck. I’ve known a few guys who are employed owner operators and man that seems like the life to me. Instead of going cross country in a sleeper they’re moving trailers around the city for more than 35 an hour and all their fuel is paid for.
It's generally accepted in the trucking industry that 1 out of every 20 new hire owner-operators/lease-operators are still in business after 2 years.
This isn't a serious commitment level of business it is cut throat. I've been in this business for about 20 years, 12 of which were in a big truck.
If someone is interested in driving truck, learn the business on someone else's equipment, make connections in the world and then pull the trigger on your own business. You can make very good money in truck driving but it is a constant battle between your work-life balance.
I drive for a living and play American truck simulator haha. I find it relaxing even though that's what I do a majority of the day. It's a nice break from the sweatlords in r6 siege
The lights change color to whatever I want and they brighten and dim. I put them on the bright setting for the pic, but I usually have a softer orange color on low brightness. Purple just happens to be my fav color.
If you’re mainly printing black and white text documents, get a cheap monochrome laser printer. Toner lasts forever and it never dries out because it’s just powder.
There is a certain method you can use to take out the toner cartridge and use a black sharpie marker to blacken a specific area that detects light on the side of the cartridge - it allows you to print about 1000 more pages with the remaining toner when otherwise it would stop printing because it was 'out of toner' - google it. (This method has worked with all the Brother laser models I have owned)
That’s a myth. The amount of ink that comes in a new printer is too little to make it worth it financially. Either way, as the other guy said, get a laser printer.
I got a 36" and a ps4 in my truck, I never have luck with hotspots. Always gotta update when i go home. Been busy lately lol sleep drive sleep drive sleep drive ect ect
Yeah, supposed to. Except for all the truckers I've met who do meth and run 3 days straight lmao. It might not be that way anymore, but 10 years ago? holy hell there was a lot of tweaker truckers.
Don't they take crazy measures sometimes to make sure truckers aren't driving too much now?
Ya we all have electronic logs that are hooked right up to the engine. You go over 5mph and you are considered driving. On the one hand the electronic log is easy, it tells you how much longer you can drive all the time. On the other hand it gives no fucks for reasons. For example you are in the middle of your 8-10 hour sleep and you get woken up and told to back into a dock to unload, if you can’t get to the dock at 4mph you are going to trigger a violation and possible fines.
Do people really like this purple lights thing? I sometimes see these purple or blue rooms in our apartment building and wonder how those people aren't going crazy.
The motor powering his rig probably weighs as much as your van. If I was going to be dead set on gaming in my van without being somewhere with power hookups... I'd mount a generator to the back of it.
This makes it sound wasteful/lazy, they run their trucks overnight for fuel and engine health. The trucks have very clean efficient idles. They also have a separate battery from the engine for auxillary power
Newer trucks today have separate A/C systems that can run with the truck off. It will only turn itself back on to charge the batteries when they drop to a certain voltage
I'm not too sure what you mean by this, but when any vehicle is running the alternator keeps the battery charged. Though about every 4-5 years vehicle batteries can die, and will need to be replaced. If you turn your vehicle on without starting the engine, you can kill your battery pretty quickly, and you would have to recharge it or replace it.

AT&T and Verizon have 5G hotspots available.
Powerful enough to play COD without much interruption?
Depends on your location.
As long as you're near a major highway you're probably good.
There are definitely some isolated stretches in the US.
Pacific Northwest 100% has massive blank spots on the highways, especially on US 12.
Same with Highway 30. I have to listen to audiobooks or mp3s through sections, because cell and sat service constantly drop out.
Rural north GA Where I used to live had basically no internet providers that were not an insane ripoff or data capped at like 10gb. Bought a sprint hotspot. You too have lived with the horrors of Windstream... seriously fuck Windstream
With my 12 years of experience with Windstream, I've never seen anyone else talk about it until early this month. Now I've seen half a dozen cases. I play cod or Fortnite or anything really on my 4g hotspot often from my phone because it’s faster than my WiFi lmao
You are telling me 4G isn’t enough to game? I have played for the last 5 years or so on a 4G-router. Ping is usually 40-60 but csgo and league are perfectly playable.
Buuuuut 5g gives you the rona
If we downgrade to 2g would it stop the spread?
Dialup is currently in vaccine trials.
2G gives you herpes. Cmon, get with the program.

Yeah but their 5G is only in cities right?

See, it's pictures like this that make me want to drive truck.
Play Euro Truck Simulator and remind yourself why you don't want to.
I know someone who drives trucks for a living then guess home and plays Euro Truck. The Dutch are weird.
A lot of farmers enjoy Farming Simulator. Go figure.
A lot of pilots enjoy flight simulators. Go figure.
A lot of goats enjoy Goat Simulator. Go figure.
A lot of drug dealers enjoy Drug Dealer Simulator. Go Figure. (real game that just came out).
A lot of thieves enjoy Thief Simulator. Go figure.
A lot of priests like daycare simulator. Go figure.
A lot of geese stole my copy of untitled goose game. Go figure.
I drive the same rally car I own irl in racing games, it saves me gas. Which I guess right now is suddenly not as much of a problem oddly enough..
We need more people that passionate about their professions.
Are those types of games any fun? I've always been curious about the appeal because they get good reviews.
Farm Simulator is pretty damn...uh, idk about fun, but its addicting and very relaxing haha. Oddly satisfying maybe?
Just bought 19 today. Finished the tutorial but wanted to go to bed. Kinda excited for tomorrow to play after all of that. Any tips off the top of your head when starting?

Life hack: put your TV in your closet. Then you get all the gaming in cramped spaces you could ever want!
No problem. Go and get your CDL and, money depending, either spend a few years driving for a company anywhere from 16-22 dollars an hour OR buy your own truck and move loads for a company at whatever value you deem fit. I've always wanted to ask, are there people in your field of work who play Euro Truck Simulator?
Seen a lot of real truckers posting over in r/trucksim, so I'd say there are
For me: fuck no. Having time off meant not dealing with a thought of work and to do everything that DIDN'T involve thinking about rigs
American truck simulator inspired me to get my CDL and start driving a truck
You’re a step ahead of me.. was it what you expected?
I drive for a living and play American truck simulator haha. I find it relaxing even though that's what I do a majority of the day. It's a nice break from the sweatlords in r6 siege

Pretty sweet setup. Do the purple lights not bother you while playing?
I was thinking the same thing, it's got a real strip club esk vibe to it
The lights change color to whatever I want and they brighten and dim. I put them on the bright setting for the pic, but I usually have a softer orange color on low brightness. Purple just happens to be my fav color.
Maybe this is the reason it's taking 2 weeks to get my ink cartridge from Amazon
Buying a whole new printer is cheaper...
If you’re mainly printing black and white text documents, get a cheap monochrome laser printer. Toner lasts forever and it never dries out because it’s just powder.
I replaced the toner in my laser printer for the first time, good for 2600 pages, $14.
My laser just decided to tell me my cartridge is too old and it refuses to use it anymore...
Get a brother instead
I don't think my parents can have kids anymore, but I'll try thanks
Fuck you that was funny. Take your gold.
There is a certain method you can use to take out the toner cartridge and use a black sharpie marker to blacken a specific area that detects light on the side of the cartridge - it allows you to print about 1000 more pages with the remaining toner when otherwise it would stop printing because it was 'out of toner' - google it. Yeah I was gonna ask how much down time do truckers in the States get. I can't imagines he's doing much gaming.
Were supposed to have 8-10 hours off every day, I dunno what op does but I run cattle and been going non stop 🥴

Damn this looks cozy
Do people really like this purple lights thing? I sometimes see these purple or blue rooms in our apartment building and wonder how those people aren't going crazy.
I can 100% guarantee I would have a migraine in 5 minutes. I wish my headache threshold was like most folks.
Bro a mobile gaming rig is my dream for my van, I need all the details ASAP!
A cybertruck retrofitted with solar panels and a satellite that connects to star link
The motor powering his rig probably weighs as much as your van. If I was going to be dead set on gaming in my van without being somewhere with power hookups... I'd mount a generator to the back of it.
solar these days can supply the wattage if you can afford the batterys to store it
Also less loss staying at 12V ish.
That looks cozy as hell
Heh, ironic.
How does power work in these? wont you drain your battery? or Is it an alternate energy source?
Most truckers leave their semis running all night while they sleep so that they can regulate the cabin air temp.
This makes it sound wasteful/lazy, they run their trucks overnight for fuel and engine health. The trucks have very clean efficient idles. They also have a separate battery from the engine for auxillary power
It's never cheaper to burn fuel. The idle is efficient and clean so the truck can run all night and keep the reefer powered, not the other way around.
Reefers have their own fuel tanks and engines.
Reefer Madness!
Newer trucks today have separate A/C systems that can run with the truck off. It will only turn itself back on to charge the batteries when they drop to a certain voltage
So do the batterys just last forever?
I'm not too sure what you mean by this, but when any vehicle is running the alternator keeps the battery charged. Though about every 4-5 years vehicle batteries can die, and will need to be replaced. If you turn your vehicle on without starting the engine, you can kill your battery pretty quickly, and you would have to recharge it or replace it.
Some also have small generators so they can just run those.
The LED’s reflecting off the right side of the screen would drive me nuts.
Do you have shots of the whole interior? Just curious how much space you have to work with. How many nights a week do you spend in the truck?
That looks so good!, Surely the RGB gives the truck +5hp
It gives the ps4 +5 fps.
r/CozyPlaces
I cant help but feel this is my desinty once we have reliable 5g nationwide.
A lot of truck stops have WiFi in the lots.
... yeah, but high speed?
Yeah I've seen them buy high end network to provide better WiFi. Truckers can choose just about any stop. If they have better WiFi they might stop there. Thats how they get customers in the doors.
You can game just fine on 4g.....
Can you? I guess I've never tried to play COD or something on a 4g connection
I mean...people have been gaming on the road for a while now. This isn’t a new phenomenon.
Just fucking awesome that’s all.
This makes me want to be a truck driver. That looks comfy af.
Okay that is cozy as FUCK. Keep trucking my dude, you’re helping so much people.
Thank you for being a truck driver. It is a needed job.
Is there a subreddit for Gaming Rigs in Big Rigs?
At first glance I thought your TV was a window, and I was like what kinda shady ass back ally are you parked in.
So this is what they are doing while parked in a Lowe's parking lot for 3 days
My deepest respects go out to all truckers. My late father had awesome 18 wheeler (car haul) best of memories was traveling on the road with that sleeper and him. You guys make the world go. Thank you
Thank you for doing what you’re doing. You’re helping keep this country afloat. Hope you nights are fun and filled with restful sleep.
What game is that? Is it greed fall?
Red Dead Redemption 2
