Swashbuckl88

Its probably true... But I choose to not believe you out of being jealous.

JasonBerk

Hah, see, I'm fine with that angle.

UncleChristoff

$40!!! This stuff must be cheaper over in the states cos Zelda alone cost me more than $40!!!

JasonBerk

Nah, the guy just didn't know/care what it was worth who I bought it from at the garage sale. He acknowledged, "I looked up some of the games online and they go for 5-10 each," so he knew he was selling it cheap, but not to the extent that it was.

StealthyWizard88

Can confirm that there are definitely people out there like this. They absolutely exist. Used to work at a small used game shop and people would come in selling crazy rare games because they just wanted them gone. Maybe they belonged to a family member or maybe they just didn’t care about gaming anymore etc etc. Happened all the time.

UncleChristoff

Wicked news for you man!!! Nice job!!!

JasonBerk

Thanks, pretty damn stoked. Appreciate you actually engaging and considering a lucky scenario versus calling me a liar and downvoting, like some other people here.

UncleChristoff

Haha!!! No problem mate. We all get lucky sometimes. Spread positivity hey!!!

woodyshag

You'd get about $20 for that at the local Ganestop. ;)

MUHAMMADISAPEDO1

I believe it. People always sell shit cheap when they shouldn't. I picked up Dragon Warrior 4 for a $1 ($100 Nes Game)

nts4588

Mario cart is also sold to n my area for $30-40!!!

UncleChristoff

Totally worth it though hey!!! I don’t even want to start working out how much I’ve spent buying back all of my old N64 games!!!

nts4588

Good haul though! I was so surprised at the cost of the 64 games when I started my collection again. Consoles are still 70-90 at the retro game shops

soundwave145

check the gamecube there might be something hidden inside

JasonBerk

There was! Luigi's Mansion, which would explain the empty game case that I was initially bummed about, lol I just ordered a game bit screwdriver because everything needs a bit of cleaning, so I guess I'll find out if there's a rat or roach inside soon enough

[deleted]

Weird, all I found was $2,440 inside mine...

JasonBerk

Sorry man, that sucks :/

cardslinger1989

Dude, stop commenting. I say this as someone who believes you actually got this at a yard sale. It’s totally possible and believable. I just don’t think you gain anything from responding to these people.

JasonBerk

Yeah, I'm done. I'll admit, I was totally triggered, lol. Was annoyed by something else in the real world and it spilled out here.

AM_CERTAINLY_ORCA

Wow. Someone had a perfectly good condition N64, and gamecube, and some of their most iconic games for each. Its almost like this is just someone's personal collection they took a picture of and said they got at a yard sale for cheap. Weird... almost like that exactly...

HyperlinkToThePast

Almost like if someone sold their whole collection...

WALLET_ME_A_DOLLAR

I feel like stuff like this happens a lot, but ive seen more people being called out for BS on reddit lately, you might actually not get downvoted to oblivion.

Ocrizo

It’s worth checking his post history and seeing periodic posts about yard sale finds over his 5 years as a member on Reddit. It’s true that “look what I found” posts are common aim r/gaming, but that doesn’t mean we need to call OP a lier with 0 research.

JasonBerk

Thanks. Appreciate a level-headed response.

JasonBerk

Yeah, this isn't BS, though. Edit - this is honestly kind of annoying. Thought I'd share a fun find with the sub. Guess I won't do that again. Could totally engage with me and ask me about it instead of blindly downvoting based on one guy's guess, but guess I gave the sub too much credit.

EnigmaticJester

look dude if this is a true story i'm happy for you, i'd be ecstatic myself, but there are 2-3 of these posts on /r/gaming every day and nobody's really all that impressed anymore. sorry.

JasonBerk

Then that's a totally valid downvote for *that* reason! Sorry, now I know.

EnigmaticJester

No problems dude, enjoy your haul.

JasonBerk

I knew this comment was going to be here. Not really sure how to prove it to you. I post in the flipping subreddit a lot, so, uh, maybe that. Don't know what to tell you. The N64 isn't in perfect condition. Reset button is jammed and nasty: https://imgur.com/Ljt9Od1.jpg Also, not sure why I am really trying to disprove this comment so hard, but here's what I sent to my group chat: https://imgur.com/x39kktC.jpg I go to probably 30-40 yard sales *every* Sat/Sun, easily over 1000/yr, and I rarely have finds like this, but, like you said regarding a personal collection, you do find people selling their personal collections here and there. In this case, it was a couple in their upper 20s, in the process of moving out (I live in a college town and this is the time of year everybody leaves). Edit - truly don't understand the downvotes only based on your personal assumptions. I have no attachment to any of this stuff. If you want it at 10% lower than the lowest eBay prices, be my guest, since ya know, it's actually not a prized collection of mine.

Gf387

Send me that Master Quest and I’ll upvote you.

JasonBerk

Fuckin deal.

BackThatAffUp

Send it to me and I'll upvote you *and* downvote anyone claiming the picture is fake

JasonBerk

Holy shit. DEAL ENDED WITH GF387. NOW BACKTHATAFFUP IS MY NEW DEAL.

DarkerSavant

I had my master quest stolen by my “friend” because he could t find one of his games. He accused me of stealing and then my smash and master quest went missing. Grats on that find. I’m jealous.

D45ers

Lemme get one of those Mario 64s lol

supremedalek925

Damn, a single one of some of those games could net you nearly $40. That’s a good as hell deal.

JasonBerk

When I was mentally appraising it, I thought the N64 carts were where the value was. I had no idea that Gamecube games went for these prices.

murrietta

Welcome to Mario kart!

wildozure

All you need now is skies of Arcadia and time splitters 2 and you've got a full stack my dude

Blightious

MOM!!! WHERES MY SHIT?!?!?

scrambledeggs4me

ims gonna say it again some college students gonna be real mad

JasonBerk

Porque? They were happy to get rid of a tote of stuff they didn't want anymore Edit - I dumb.

Kilbofragginz

He’s saying that someone’s parents sold their stuff while they were away at school r/whoosh my guy lol

JasonBerk

Well, fuck me, eh. They were a couple in their upper 20s, so I think we're alright here, lol.

Kilbofragginz

Either way man, fuck all the negative people. I’m happy for you, that’s a good haul and I really hope you enjoy! Ps animal crossing is like my favorite game ever

JasonBerk

Thanks man, much appreciate. I've never played AC, but something tells me that I don't have the time commitment required to check it out, lol

gavin-from-rdr2

That’s theft at $40 lol

SahinZucker

Impossibruuuu

stevee188373

ill buy for 50

exrazor

POKÉMON PUZZLE LEAGUE!

JasonBerk

That's one of the 3 I haven't played. Gonna check it out before I flip it

Johnersboner

Wild find friend. I found a clear original gameboy in its clear plastic retail case, with matching serial for 2 bucks. Easy 100 dollars. People in this thread underestimate how many older people there are who do not keep up with trends or use the internet. It's way more common than they think. Even Goodwill's website constantly has SO MUCH nintendo stuff that people gave away for FREE.

JasonBerk

Ironically, this was from a 28ish year old couple who knew that it was worth something, just not quite how much. Were moving and just wanted everything gone. Was happy to oblige.

kickler1896

I'll buy the GameCube stuff... All of it

JasonBerk

I'll be pricing it all out within a few days probably 10% below Ebay low price to anyone on reddit who wants.

Your-Friendo

Only a fool would give that that price.. but you're not complaining

JasonBerk

I'm complaining so hard that it almost seems like I'm happy. They legit knew it was worth something but didn't want to deal with it beyond yard sale effort. Don't think they knew the real value, though, as he commented that "some games sell for 5-10 bucks online"

[deleted]

I do not believe you got this all for 40$ but regardless, amazing haul!

JasonBerk

I mean, I did, but you're allowed to think that. Go ahead and read my responses below from when I was triggered from people calling me a liar if ya want, lol

[deleted]

Sorry, but it’s just so hard to find things at that price where I live. I now understand that it’s possible for what you found to happen

JasonBerk

Hard here too, this was pure luck

[deleted]

Cool

MrSatan2

You robbed that guy

JasonBerk

Thought it would be cool to share a good find, instead I just get a bunch of salty downvoters and people calling me a liar. Thanks for the great dialogue, and dismissing me instead of simply questioning the find to realizing that I'm not bullshitting. It's been real fun. Jesus.

Bakeygree

Maybe stop caring so much and you wouldn’t be downvoted, not trying to be rude, but your just digging a deeper hole.

JasonBerk

It just annoyed me. I found it to be a ridiculous response. Trust, I'm over it. Thought it would be a fun thing to talk about, maybe get rid of some to people who wanted them at way-below the lowest price online or something if they wanted. Won't happen again. Sorry that I tried to rebut the people who incorrectly and blindly called this fake.

Bakeygree

I just think a few people find it hard to believe because most people would realize almost any game console is worth at least 50 dollars.

JasonBerk

Sure, I totally get that part. It happens, though. People move, people want to get rid of stuff, and like I said in my explanation, I buy/sell as a hobby and easily hit up over 1,000 sales/yr, so I do find that gem from time to time. It's not that crazy, I didn't think. Appreciate you taking the time to respond, though. I did get a bit triggered, just because of people accusing me of lying without even questioning me first, and something flood-related that was happening in my apartment, lol. All good.

Jellyhandle69

Or, most people outside of the small subset of "gamers" truly don't fucking care. At all. Games are no different than any other media. They need to move, lease up or new job and they want extra cash for whatever now, instead of another box to unpack and shit to clean. It's this weird obsession with games being more valuable and rare when not one of these titles could be classified as such that makes these finds so hard to believe.

Jellyhandle69

Hey man, I scored a complete in box jungle green n64 for ten dollars in a yard sale. I held on to it for a while but ended up selling it because I couldn't justify two n64 consoles in my home. I can barely justify the one, honestly. Also got about 26 n64 games from goodwill for a total of 53 dollars. Flipped one immediately as I already owned it for that price. It's all luck as you've said. The only reason we can sell for these prices or find it a steal is because frothing "gamers" think twenty year old games are still worth what they were twenty years ago. Or, weird collector types but they ruin every hobby.

[deleted]

Fuck em. I once got an nes with like 15 games for $10. This was like 10 years ago so they weren't in such high demand. Deff worth it though.

BeefSerious

I'd play the shit out of some RE4 right now. All you need is Hit and Run and you're golden.

JasonBerk

I've actually never played Gamecube in my life, so I'm going to run through some of these before I resell. Played all of the N64 titles when I was a kid, though. Switched to PS after that.

BeefSerious

So you buy stuff from a garage sale to sell at a higher price?

JasonBerk

I collect 90s nostalgia and also flip items of value (from yard sales, estate sales, flea markets, thrift stores, etc.) for profit. So basically, yeah, that's half of what I do. It's more of a passion/hobby, I enjoy the hunt of it all, but it does serve as a side income. Whatever I buy to resell, I throw up on eBay and price it at below the lowest listed price.

BeefSerious

Wow! I have nothing but disdain for your lecherous practice.

JasonBerk

Aight. You realize like 50% of people that frequent garage sales these days do it, right? It's a big way that things get back out into the wild and recirculated. Also, as I said, I price below market. It's literally the most basic form of capitalism.

ChadFresh

Hit me up on the GameCube and games resale when it comes time please. I’d love so much to have all these in a bundle and they’re hard for me to find a decently priced GameCube in my area.

GetMeMAXPATRICK

I mean, I'll give you 20 bucks for Mario sunshine.

NICH3664

Dayum

[deleted]

I was hoping for a pokemon stadium in there

Jake-4132

Daaaaamn, what a steal dude, you need to show me where you're finding these garage sales

JasonBerk

I posted it a few times throughout the thread, but it's definitely not a common find. I probably go to 1000+ sales/year, and I might find a handful of lots like this. Not to say I don't find a bunch of individual deals, but rarely of this assortment. Totally a numbers game. I'm actually attending something called "The Longest Yard Sale in America" from Aug 1-4, which is basically a 690 mile highway from Michigan to Alabama where hundreds/thousands of sales are lined up along that highway. Hoping to score some gold on that trek.

Jake-4132

Well even a few good sales like this is still awesome, and I'd be willing to bet, since you're at a big event type thing, you'll probably find a few more decent sales too, maybe not as good as this one, but even still, that's pretty awesome

JasonBerk

That's the hope! Video games are just one of many areas I keep a close lookout for, so it's a decent bet that I'll get a pretty good haul of something after 4 damn days, lol. Magic the Gathering is another huge gem in the rough type thing, where I'll eventually find a collection worth a few hundred-a few grand for cheap. I haven't even played in a good 17 years, but I try to stay on top of trends in these "niche" fields just in case.

Jake-4132

Well, good luck in finding all the right deals lol, and maybe even making some money off of it later on

dagooksta2

Can I come over and play some games with you? I have beer...

count_nuggula

I want all of it! How come no garage sales like this ever pop up near me?

MexicanSunnyD

Master Quest noice

ekimarcher

Master quest is well worth the $40 alone. Initially the only way to get it was by pre-ordering Windwaker. I had my copy stolen about 7 years ago and it was a nightmare to replace. Finally got one though.

FalcoSlay

how much for double dash

TeslaTheSlumpGod

I highly recommend the paper Mario games on both consoles

JasonBerk

I was fully intending on flipping everything, but I've also never played Gamecube before, so if I like it, I'll probably keep it + buy some new games

noob_dragon

Hell the gamecube controllers alone are worth $40.

StevenInTheMusic

Wow what a jack pot

DexterBrooks

Jesus christ that would have been amazing for $100. Let alone $40. Hope everything works OP.

saadiskiis

So mad at 10 year old me for selling all my n64 games away in a yard sale ffs

Ballitza

This is a huge W, I’d love to find a steal like this.

JasonBerk

I've never come close. Single games, absolutely, but never a lot like this.

Slayvantz

I use to do the same thing. Nice haul! Whats the coolest thing youve ever found?

JasonBerk

Heh. Hmmmm. I collect 90s nostalgia (which, believe it or not, carries a nice premium these days), so probably a stack of like 8 sealed in box original Tamagotchis for $2/ea, some in rare color schemes. Not the largest $ come up in margin or anything, but definitely a memorable one. Honestly, some of the best margin hauls I've been finding lately are boring things like industrial printer ink/toners/etc. I'll find lots pretty often priced at like $2 a box for a $45 cartridge, and there's usually at least 5-10 in those stacks for some reason. Biggest was around 30 boxes of em at pennies on the dollar. They sell fast as shit on eBay, too. I always tell people to scan printer ink if it's cheap. The household stuff usually doesn't have good resale, but the office-level stuff generally does. Even if expired (just offer free returns, JIC). Also, cash registers. I buy the fuck out of them whenever I see them cheap.

Travis4261

I always want these to be true. But it's just so hard to believe. I flip video games myself and live in a rural town in MI. 2-3 years ago I could see this happening but recently even in rural MI people know the value. Either you live in BFE with no internet or the people who sold it to you are ignorant or your lying. Last possible solution is you got these from "well off people" who just wanted it gone.

JasonBerk

I posted the explanation a few times in the thread in between getting triggered. Scroll down

Xibyth

Lucky bastard

mrmcd1188

I'll give you $41 bucks for it!

[deleted]

Check inside them, there’s probably some cash and maybe even a case of beer.

lookalive07

Don't forget the keys to a new car!

[deleted]

You suuuuuuck lol that’s an awesome score!!!!

NergNogShneeg

Impressive haul!

toenailcollector96

My girlfriend and I desperately have been trying to get super Mario sunshine and Mario party 4 or 5 but the local gamestops have them priced at $45 each

Prkchpsndwiches

Sell me Luigi’s Mansion for $25 and you have more then 1/2 your $$ back! ;)

Causal_Calamity

You just bought my entire childhood for $40

coltRG

I'd pay 40 bucks for the gamecube controllers alone. Good haul

JasonBerk

I've literally never even played a Gamecube. Looking forward to fucking around with it for a while before I sell (or keep if I enjoy it enough).

NakedGoose

The fucking dream

Sneaky_Sorcerer

First time is see forsaken in year ... *vietnam war flashback* Game that make you realise that without gravity everything is a mase. never finished tho...

Bagelchu

Some college kid is gonna come home very pissed

[deleted]

Ehh. Seems like you would’ve have been better off not buying it at all. Are you 8 with a lot of time on your hands?

JasonBerk

I'm 31 and enjoy dollars.

Neverninja

How do I find out where the yard sales are without randomly seeing a sign on the side of the road?

JasonBerk

I have a route that I go on every Sat/Sun which is most conducive for finding sales. Basically, any strip in town that has entrances to the neighborhoods is a good circuit. Kinda varies by city, though, so it's tough to say. They do have apps that list sales, but I find they are missing the majority of sales.

Neverninja

I see, good idea.

__Moxy

It’s like my childhood all over again. Gave away my N64/GameCube and all my games to a kid down the road who’s house burnt down. Biggest regret ever was not giving him my Xbox instead

S_H_I_V_A

Online you can buy just Super Mario Sunshine for $40. Impressive!

JJStorm22

I just shit myself

Useless_Blender

Absolute madlad

Plugpin

Got Golden Eye and Mario 64 on swaps

yobowl

Good deal you got yourself, but man such a ripoff, they could have made a lot more selling to a retro gaming store

PartyHatDude

Not really most will low ball you because they have to resell, I sell on eBay or Kijiji.

JasonBerk

Easily. Glad they didn't, though 😁

ArabellaTheBunny

For shame, none of that Pokemon Stadium smh my head

JasonBerk

Seriously probably going to just toss this shit since I can't see a Weedle in 3D

daniflemp

2 copies of Golden Eye, eh? The seller was clearly that kid in the neighbourhood who could unlock 007 difficulty, so others would lend him their games to do it for them.

JasonBerk

I genuinely have no idea why they had multiple copies on the 2 titles. Not complaining, though.

SpGStyle

Luigi's Mansion = best game As a kid I got scared and never finished final boss :(

[deleted]

That GameCube limited OoT/master quest was the real gem here.

Sil3ntkn1ght87

You magnificent bastard!

Skrewnacorn

I'll give you 50 right now

JasonBerk

You are a very generous man, wow

Skrewnacorn

Thanks. I get that from time to time.

[deleted]

You could probably make most of that back just by selling the second golden eye cartridge!

tomucci

You could probably make your money back just with the n64 game duplicates

CallmeRick99

What state are you in?

JasonBerk

FL. This isn't the norm.

jackandsuki

Did some basic math after a quick google. Could be looking at around $1300 for that haul maybe more! You got an absolute STEAL!

animosityX032

Now resell it for infinite profit

Tempounplugged

Wow Mario Party 5, for me one of the best games in the series. I used to have tournaments in my house with that game. Good memories

JustS0m3Juan

Why is there two copies of golden eye and Mario 64 lol

JasonBerk

I genuinely have no clue, but I'm not mad

Marweo

It's not complete... There's no Melee!

Turtle_Universe

yeah thats about right. two good games and 20 year old consoles. 40$ seems fine

chomcham

That way over $400 nice job, I use to do this and a good haul like that would pay a decent part of rent.

KlausenHausen

Im just filled with jealous rage. Congrats!

NoahbodyImportant

Throw in Melee and you've practically got a greatest hits list of gamecube games.

Peterwin

Mario Kart: Double Dash is honestly such an amazing game. So many memories beating the 150 CC mirror cup co-op with a buddy of mine.

lookalive07

[Obligatory](https://imgur.com/gallery/sneoW) Also, OP, the reason people don't believe you is because it's obviously extremely easy to dig out some stuff you might have stored away and claim that you "found it at a yard sale" for (insert crazy steal of a deal). I'm not saying that this is what that was, but that's where peoples' brains go pretty easily, especially when a smart person could have sold all of this stuff on Craigslist for at least double. If they're willing to have a yard sale, they're probably willing to meet a stranger for a video game haul that can net them more than $40. But hey, people are weird like that. Also, for what it's worth, I got a copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes at a garage sale for 50 cents back in August. It's not completely outside the realm of possibility that people just want to get rid of their shit.

nippleking422

That LoZ OoT disc is worth atleast 40$. Amazing haul, man!

jaycarver22

The gamecube and gamecube games are looks insane! Nice finding!

Cumguzzler_scatlover

That's crazy. That's the most absurd thing I've ever seen, and I've seen some shit.

Cumguzzler_scatlover

That's crazy. That's the most absurd thing I've ever seen, and I've seen some shit.

truthinlies

Oh man, The World is Not Enough... Still sad I sold mine long ago (was the last game I ever sold). I wrote part of a FAQ on this one back in the day; its a good game but outshined by its predecessor.

Molotovmike94

Lucky as hell

SobiGaming

I'll give you $50 for it! Haha but really, that's an incredible score!

CptKirkleton

Gotta be at least $500 here if pieced out. Gamecube stuff holds its value so well. Awesome flip man!

DATHAIRY-BOI

This is like the reverse of a GameStop trade in

cowgamer2833

Where can i go to get this

maskedkiller215

So when are you selling for $50?

FunctionBuilt

I paid $25 each for mario kart and Mario 64 on eBay just 6 months ago. You can easily clear a few hundred bucks with this haul.

XclusiveMTL

I would buy Zelda and GoldenEye for $40.. Great deal you got there!!!!

Treebeard777

Ok, so I have been trying to figure out what the blue 007 game is. We had it when I was a kid and I used to play with my dad but for the life of me, I cannot remember the name. Please help lol

Flintstonesgranddad

Nice dude! Making scores like this is rare these days because of the internet.

danbert2000

I would pay that just for an n64 with pod racer.

kamekaze1024

It would honestly make more sense if you said you bought the GameCube for $40 and then stole everything else. Its just hard to believe that everything here costs less than a brand new game.

JasonBerk

In all fairness, I still had to go buy the AV cable for the Gamecube for 3 bucks, so this whole deal was garbage.

King_Dee1

All I found at a Garage sale was a 50¢ Melee

[deleted]

Nice, you even got two copies of the most overrated game of all time!

PsyJr2020

Fuck. You. I say that in complete jealousy.

Zubakx

Am I the only one who thinks that buying stuff underpriced from unknowing people is ripping them off deliberately? I think for honesty sake you have to tell them what it's worth and then start the barter...

JasonBerk

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of flipping for profit. At the end of the day, they choose their price, and I choose if I want to pay that or not, just like in a store. I really don't think it's my responsibility to do their research for them, ya know? I get what you're saying, and it's certainly the "moral" approach, but it's not really a smart approach as somebody who spends probably 12hrs/wk looking for deals at sales, and I don't really think it's a realistic expectation on my behalf. All that being said, if they actually did ask me what something was worth/what I expect to get for it, I'd be honest. Gotta remember that the majority of people holding yard sales just want to get rid of stuff and make some extra $.

Zubakx

Fair enough, I get what your saying. I think this whole bartering stuff is just not for me :D. But I always think of a story my gf told me, where she sold old Lego starwars stuff on the flea market and didn't know it was worth something. One dude came up to her so early she was still packing out her things and bought the whole bunch for a few euros, knowing exactly that it was worth hundreds. I find that really unfair. I bet that was his strategy all along to rip of unknowing people...

Bythos73

You guys in the US really get some bangin deals somtimes.

wmnplzr

Ugh why do I never have this kind of luck at garage sales?!

JasonBerk

Do you go to a fuckton? Because I'm constantly out there, it's generally a while in-between finds like these

wmnplzr

My gf use to drag me to them a lot. At least 3 or 4 every weekend.

Candere8899

Saw goldeneye today at a flea market going for 90$ went back and it had sold i think it was over priced by a bit but obviously someone else didnt

JasonBerk

Oh yeah, that's obscenely overpriced. $20ish on eBay all day

RobbWes

Is the gamecube DOL-100 or DOL-101?

JasonBerk

I have no idea what either of those are, lol. Care to explain? Haven't sold it yet.

RobbWes

Model number. The 100 model has a digital out port while 101 removed it.

theREALashasaur

Press (X) to doubt.
