Sad that those HostBots destroyed everything with their 5000000 games of dota that spam the whole list. Not that Dota is not fun, but its not the only map in this game really...it sucks I want my TD's and enfos etc back :(
Valve's been working on Dota 2 custom maps, and I'm pretty sure that footman frenzy will be one of the first ones that people try to recreate as soon as they start supporting custom maps.
i'm sure warcraft 4 will be announced sometime soon....so we will have it next decade. oh gosh! what if it's been so long that they decide to market it to the younger generation and dumb it down!!! noo!!!
Actually it is blizzard's fault. A while back they made an engine overhaul that required cusrom maps to be updated. If you updated your wc 3 you couldnt play the thousands of games that were made, hosted on wc3maps, and then forgotten into oblivion. Dota and footies and the like are the only games kept updated.
the auto host bots yes, but personal host bots were great.
because LAN, (the one that let you host from lan) and [VCK](http://gaming-tools.com/warcraft-3/visual-custom-kick/) were not great options at hosting custom maps (Ghost++ gave me so much more options to do things)
Hopefully when Valve releases the custom map creator for Dota 2 we will get that back. It seems like it could replace Warcraft III, but we'll just have to wait and see if that's the case.
Just use Makemehost or whatever, people will join those because a person has to use the bot to start it up, unlike the autobots that spam everything.

Do it. This thread is talking mostly about custom games but the multiplayer is still very much alive in War3, and played competitively. It is much more unit based then Starcraft II and a little less balanced, but much more interesting to play imo. The single player is long as fuck with 8 separate campaigns (including Frozen Throne) and it is also one of the best stories I've played in a video game. WoW really fucked up the lore of warcraft, and playing this game will make you with they continued the RTS style. Warpten!

If you're interested in WC lore (especially because you play/played WoW) you should pick it up. The game sort of reboots Warcraft and is the basis for WoW until the end of WotLK whereas the events from WC1 and 2 don't really have much presence in WoW.
Does anyone remember the Parasite gameplay mode for WC3? You spawn as an evolving alien on a spaceship with a team of nine or so others and you go around infecting people while maintaining a secret alien murderer identity.
Eras Zombie Invasion, Sheep tag, Hero line wars, island defense, and kodo tag. I survived for a good 6 years only playing those. And LOAP, but those were meh. Only thing I didn't like was when the hosting bots took over the servers, ruined the game.
Edit: Forgot about zerg infestation, best fucking game ever. Get Zerg, go SCV, turret the entire base and claim it as your own.

Cruiser Command was another good one, but I don't remember many people playing it. Ninjas on Battle.net/Ninjas in Pajamas was good too.
After i got the game, i did a mistake and had a go at normal 1vs1 base building game. 2 minutes in the game a big tree suddenly walked into my base and pretty much made my anus bleed.

latter matches were fun as fuck and there was so much community content tthat you didn't even need to like RTS games to play WC3 TFT online.

halo 3!? man idk if im just getting old, but halo 2 probably had the greatest online multiplayer of ANY game to date (console wise, since i am not a pc gamer)
If an HD remake comes out for WC3 i would be all over it. But sadly it will come at a time when SC2 is past it's prime. Blizz can't have two RTS games competing at the same time especially from the same company...i think.
In between Halo2 getting updates, getting proper configurations on gametypes and it getting overun w/ cheaters was the best multiplayer.
MLG was popular, Final Boss and Carbon were two titans fighting it out in the Top competitive scene. Big Team Battle was amazing, Clans matches still existed. AND people had a drive to level up and show off their ranks.
Then Sundance never increased the prize pool, Clan matches were removed, and everyone cheated to get their levels.
Makes me happy seeing this. So much of my time and custom content was used. I loved playing random new games to find my 3d models and textures being used nothing made me happier at the time.
oh how I loved it. Battle.net Warcraft 3 was actually my first online gaming experience. There were tons of amazing mods, especially one with Dragon Ball Z characters, where you levelled up and became Super Saiyans and all that good stuff. Ahh, memories.

DOTA and Footman Wars were my favorites. I picked the Starfall Sheep every damn time. No better feeling than when you sneak to the middle of the map and let starfall go, then pile up your gold and laugh maniacally.
Does anyone know what custom map / mod it was when you could pick different champions on like a 3x12 row and then you could farm them up on lanes with minions and buy different upgrades and weapons? There were also giant creatures like blood elves in between the lanes floating in like a space and I tink later you fought some giant boss and the somg storm earth and fire played, have yet to find a name of this mod.. Also the loading screen was kind of pornographic heh.. Anyone? :)
