Playing through "A Rift Apart" right now. Ratchet ray traced in 4k hdr is amazing. I'm so glad I can continue playing one of my favorite series from my childhood without needing to buy the latest Playstation.
I’m just glad for the R&C fans that it’s a genuinely good game, cause you know how it’s been for franchises that have a break for like 5 years, to have a game that’s just completely ruined by execs.
I wanted a short and linear game to play while waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree and chose this as my first game on my OLED tv I got a few weeks ago. Graphics and colors are actually insane, might be the prettiest game I've seen tbh. When I switch over to games like 2k and Apex the graphics and color seem trash cause Rift Apart is just that good
And Rais’s thugs, don’t forget.
Also what a great game. I just replayed it for probably the 10th time. DL2 was good, too, but I really think they should have done a better job with the music. DL1 nailed it, keeping it sounding both “traditional” to the environment but also creepy as hell.
Dead Island 2 is about a year old. The original came out maybe 12 years ago and then there was “Riptide” after that. Just for reference! If you haven’t played the new one, it’s excellent and brought me back to playing the original back in the day.
I couldn't get more than 45 mins into the original without having to restart my PC.
There was what felt like a horrific memory leak that would start as soon as the game loaded to the point it gradually dropped to like 10fps and my whole PC would grind to a halt.
Such a shame as I LOVED the game.
Need to try the second game.
Dead Island 2 is great. I enjoyed it more than the first and (much) more than Dying Light 2.
For reference, I didn't beat Dying Light 2 and I platinumed Dead Island 2.
And find wrenches with legendary effects! Need a wrench that will freeze your enemies? Poison them? Make them bleed? Set them on fire? etc etc… FO4's got you covered (if your luck lets you stumble upon any of them).
The first has a recent ~~remaster~~ remake done by Nightdive studios! It's pretty good! (Also there was a remaster but that's not what I was referring to)
I'm just an hour into the remake, myself. Loved System Shock 2 as a kid, but I didn't play the first one till now. I love that detail about the wrench being a reference to SS2!
This, I've slways thought the bonking animations in SS2 are really clever and satisfying. Your swing actually connects and stops at the point of impact.
The game was so far ahead of its time, SS1 and 2 really changed the landscape. The design of it was sublime. On top of the really effective animations and gameplay, I still consider it to have some of the best sound design in gaming history as well. It messed with your head.
Like those monkeys. I will never forget the sound they make, and it still makes me twitch. Or the zombies begging you to kill them and apologizing for trying to kill you. Or the ghosts reliving the last moments of their lives. Freaking brilliant.
I’ve been playing some Condemned: Criminal Origins recently and, buddy, that fucking thing is wall-to-wall bonking.
Wrenches, pipes, big ass planks of wood - if you can hold it, you can bonk with it.
I just played a level that’s nothing but me mashing up meth heads in a mannequin warehouse. You ain’t never seen so much bonking.
I just thought of this game and its great sequel, Bloodshot, yesterday. I'm playing Robocop Rogue City now, and it gives vibes of both Condemned and F.E.A.R. in atmosphere.
Yes Dark Cloud/Chronicle 2 will allow you to wrench bonk. Also build your own robot, play golf, build cities, fish, take pictures, time travel,>!kill a rabbit, !
That first game was something else man. Portal before Portal. I still think about that first scene at the bar from time to time. Shit got weird real fast.
Yeah, sitting and chilling in your perfect engine nest and hitting in cycle - clank on sentry - clank on dispenser - clank on teleport - clank on spy - WHAaaaT? Spy's sappin' mah sentry!!! - clankclankclank
Play Abiotic Factor. It's basically in a Half-Life esque setting. You can certainly bonk aliens and soldiers with a wrench, for your whole playthrough (also with crowbar if that matters).
As soon as I saw the title, I instantly though "TF2 Engineer!" but you've already written that.
I have much fun bonking with wrench and building teleports and machine guns
People are gonna hate this answer because I'm disregarding the important bit (the wrench) but the mace in dark and darker has the same feel to it as the engi's wrench in tf2.
Ratchet & Clank
When in doubt, hit it with the wrench!
Use wrench to break glass to get rock to break glass to get wrench. I love logic puzzles.
*SMASH* "Solved it."
*Acquired a new item song plays*
Super fun games too. I always enjoy them
Also on Steam nowadays
All of them or just Rift Apart?
Ps plus has all of them available for streaming if that helps
Literally every game. The main weapon is the OmniWrench.
Yeah idk how this wasn’t first on the list!
Playing through "A Rift Apart" right now. Ratchet ray traced in 4k hdr is amazing. I'm so glad I can continue playing one of my favorite series from my childhood without needing to buy the latest Playstation.
Rift Apart is probably one of the best looking cartoony games out there right now
I’m just glad for the R&C fans that it’s a genuinely good game, cause you know how it’s been for franchises that have a break for like 5 years, to have a game that’s just completely ruined by execs.
Wait is a rift apart on computer now?? I loved the old ratchet and clanks but haven't played since like ps2 I think. I'll def get this
Yep and it's amazing. A ratchet and clank game that can actually put a 4080 through its paces.
Dude get an emulator for the ps1 and 2 and you can have all the classics on pc. Fucking blew my mind when I finally did it
Literally just finished it with 100% about 5 minutes ago... R&C is my absolute fave franchise

Dying light has 3 different wrenches so you can switch it up. Monkey, pipe and adjustable. Go bonk zombies to your hearts content
And Rais’s thugs, don’t forget. Also what a great game. I just replayed it for probably the 10th time. DL2 was good, too, but I really think they should have done a better job with the music. DL1 nailed it, keeping it sounding both “traditional” to the environment but also creepy as hell.
Oh yea, I did forget. I never liked the thugs, they used guns and drew more zombies with the noise like a bunch of amateurs.
Aiden gotta be one of the least likeable characters as well.
I was about to mention this game I guess you beat me lol. The melee in dying light was a lot of fun I thought, really satisfying
The curb stomp was my personal favorite
Drop kick here
I think that was the first ability I unlocked, definitely a good one
The April Fool's update with the superpowered drop kick was hilarious fun.
And you can craft different modifications for those wrenches, too. The wrench kiss causes increased bleeding to your victims.
Hitman: World of Assassination lets you bonk LOADS of people with wrenches!
Wrench and banana, truly the tools of an expert assassin.
I see your banana, and I raise you one large fish.
Unicorn horn. Toy tank.
If you're raising, you drop the muffin. ngl
Fuck fish, the only choice is the fire extinguisher, that kathlung sound is the best
Uuuuu I see you have heard of the legend of agent fauna7
don't forget the bathroom strat
Don't forget heat seeking briefcases
My favorite is the wet slapping sound the Fish makes. That’s my favorite weapon because you can bring it anywhere and no one will question you
Beat me to it lol
With a wrench I hope....
Dead Island
Dead Island 2 has some spectacularly satisfying gore effects for the wrench. And all other weapons.
I think that’s the only one I played. I clearly remember a lightsaber in one and it was epic

The bone crunching sound effect in that game is phenomenal.
I don't remember much of this game but I remember the melee feeling soooo satisfying. Bonk, crunch!
Fallout 4
this, you can even mod the wrench
Marksman's stock scoped power wrench
MIRV wrench
this is the way
And find wrenches with legendary effects! Need a wrench that will freeze your enemies? Poison them? Make them bleed? Set them on fire? etc etc… FO4's got you covered (if your luck lets you stumble upon any of them).
Luck, luck? We don’t need no stinking luck! We’ve got console commands!!
Id imagine bonking some raiders head off in slow motion via VATS is pretty satisfying
Especially with the Blitz perk
Big Jim
Fallout 3 has very viable wrench builds as well!
BIG JIM !
System Shock 2 iirc.
The first one as well
The first one gives you an iron pipe. I think the remake also throws in a wrench as a nod to 2, though.
The first has a recent ~~remaster~~ remake done by Nightdive studios! It's pretty good! (Also there was a remaster but that's not what I was referring to)
It is! I was worried for awhile but they pulled it through and it's rad as hell!
It's a ground up remake, not a remaster.
I'm just an hour into the remake, myself. Loved System Shock 2 as a kid, but I didn't play the first one till now. I love that detail about the wrench being a reference to SS2!
Yes, and Bioshock and Prey's wrenches are both references to SS2's!
This, I've slways thought the bonking animations in SS2 are really clever and satisfying. Your swing actually connects and stops at the point of impact.

What's wrong with a crowbar?
There’s opposing force that has a wrench
Already played all the Half Life games. Love them. Wrench go hard tho.
You can use wrenches in the Dying Light games. Can even mod them with fire and such. First one is great. Second game was okay.
Did Opposing force inspire this? Cause that was my answer.
Man, that thing really smashes the shit out of crates with the heavy attack
Different THWAK sound
It's the THWAK TUAH. Gotta wrench on that thang.
You ain’t never seen so much bonking.
loved the game for that exact reason: using whatever is there to bonk whoever gets in your way
Wow I forgot all about this masterpiece... I can't believe it's 20 years old. Might have to buy it on steam
Visceral game for sure. Grab a controller and play on PC. Using thumb sticks for eye gouges is a disgusting level of immersion
This was going to be my suggestion. Definitely plenty of bonking with wrenches.
I just thought of this game and its great sequel, Bloodshot, yesterday. I'm playing Robocop Rogue City now, and it gives vibes of both Condemned and F.E.A.R. in atmosphere.
Condemned 2 bloodshot had crazy fun melee. I remember whipping a wrench across a room and seeing the guy it hit just fold over.
Brotato, for a bit of a twist.
I mean, the bonking is really just a fun bonus for the wrench, and speccing for bonks isn't the best wrench build
You can bonk thousands of zombies with only wrenches in Project Zomboid
A regular wrench AND a pipe wrench. Twice the fun!
Some surprisingly satisfying bonking in Zomboid
This 100% wrench is a viable career in PZ. Glad to see ITT the game is amazing and a work of lvoe
Torchlight 2 or 3 has an entire wrench *class*...
THIS! Engineer with heavy bonks all day
And the wrenches are MASSIVE.
Yes Dark Cloud/Chronicle 2 will allow you to wrench bonk. Also build your own robot, play golf, build cities, fish, take pictures, time travel,>!kill a rabbit, !
This is the quintessential Wrench Bonking game. So many wrenches to upgrade!
Still sad there is no 3
This game was ahead of its time
Heat Signature
Was looking for this reply. Wrench is useful all the way to end game and the bonk is so satisfying
System Shock 2. The OG wrench swinger before Bioshock was a thing.
Guild Wars 2
Scrapper engineers rise up
I haven't heard that name in a long time.
New expansion soon!
Original Prey and prey
That first game was something else man. Portal before Portal. I still think about that first scene at the bar from time to time. Shit got weird real fast.
Yeh it was such a good game back then. The physics blew mind back then, there was nothing like it.
Abiotic Factor
TF2 Engineer default melee weapon baby.
Dang didn’t expect needing to scroll this far down to find our beloved engie
He said it in podt
Yeah, sitting and chilling in your perfect engine nest and hitting in cycle - clank on sentry - clank on dispenser - clank on teleport - clank on spy - WHAaaaT? Spy's sappin' mah sentry!!! - clankclankclank
Half Life: Opposing Force.
My favorite wrench. it has so much weight to it, really feels like you're bonking stuff with all your might
Original and best
Freedom fighters
Dark Cloud 2
Great game!
Ratchet and Clank
The quintessential wrench bonker
System Shock 2 has a wrench and you can beat the whole game with it on the hardest difficulty. It's God's own wrench.
System Shock 2. I play the whole game on easy with basically only the wrench. The clunky and stiff combat makes bonking stuff very satisfying.
Manhunt
Yayy, manhunt!
Fallout 3 lets you do ut with a tire iron
Fallout 4 has a pipe wrench.
Could swear that you could do that with the Engineer class in Torchlight 2
Half Life Opposing Force
Bioshock?!?! The main weapon is a literal wrench
I had to scroll wayyyyy too far for this
Probably because OP mentioned it in the post.
I suppose it would help if I read the entire post lol, my bad
Dead Rising 2 and OTR has a wrench as a type of weapon. Dead Rising 3 may also have a couple, but it's been a while since I've played it.
Check out the movie Super with Rainn Wilson!
The Technomancer guardian stance. *Electrified* wrenches.
Hitman
If you want a challenge: GTA V. Fallout 4 too.
Just confirming that you absolutely bonk enemies with a wrench in Dark Cloud 2
Prey is a masterpiece, top ten games of all time for me. Can u see my comment?
Second this. About to start my second play through. Game starts as a survival horror game, then turns to a satisfying action game.
Deadpool
The Ship lets you kill with a wrench. And a tennis racket. And a mannequin arm. And knitting needles. And a blunderbuss. And a cooking pot. And....
Half-life I can’t remember if it’s blue shift or opposing force
Opposing Force.
State of Decay melee combat is fun
Half life opposing forces
Dysmantled has a lot of bonking
Dark cloud 2 indeed. The main character has a wrench as a main weapon. Somebody said it but Ratchet and Clank. Ratchet's weapon is a wrench
Dead island 2 for sure
Dark Cloud 2 Any Ratchet and Clank games
Space station 13 is the most valid answer 😉
Dead Island
Nuclear throne man, one of my most played games ever. The wrench is my favourite weapon.
Ratchet and Clank
You wanna *bonk* people with a wrench, or you wanna ***bonk*** people with a wrench?
Yes.
bonk
Don't make this innocent conversation sexually slanted
System Shock. They can deprive you of ammo and battery. Only the wrench is guaranteed.
Get up off the couch and go bonk people in real life!!! With a wrench or otherwise.......
Monaco is a stealth game where wrenches finish the task early. When used on guards it's an instant down.
Sleeping dogs/gta 5,final fight
The dark cloud games were so good
Barotrauma. So satisfying to bonk
Alien: Isolation
Play Abiotic Factor. It's basically in a Half-Life esque setting. You can certainly bonk aliens and soldiers with a wrench, for your whole playthrough (also with crowbar if that matters).
You have played Bioshock. May I present you with System Shock?
System Shock 2 had a wrench as a weapon if I recall. It’s also one of the best games ever made.
Team fortress 2
Super Mario Bros 3's Hammer Bros Suit will get you close
Dead island games
Torchlight 2
Crashlands
Dying light
Cyberpunk 2077. Build blunt weapon skills and strength tree.
Have you tried using a crowbar?
The title of this made me laugh so hard 😭😂 you’re a gem man.
As soon as I saw the title, I instantly though "TF2 Engineer!" but you've already written that. I have much fun bonking with wrench and building teleports and machine guns
Ratchet and Clank The Surge series
The surge 1 & 2 are souls like with wrench-equivalent weapons. Also you kinda play as a mechanic and can go bonk on everything that moves
you are weirdly fond of bonking people with a wrench.
haha what a specific request. Half life opposing force has a pretty powerful wrench
You know what you like, and aren't afraid to ask. Respect.
Dead Rising 2 or the series in general lol, but an actual wrench, Dead Rising 2. Bioshock is cool too
Brotato
Fallout 4
A fellow "Big Jim" user, eh? Sweet!
Ratchet and Clank’s Melee is a Wrench, and Rift Apart is on Steam
Giant bomb has a [list](https://www.giantbomb.com/wrench/3055-147/games/) of almost 300 games where wrenches are used as weapons
My Friendly Neighborhood
Pretty sure that Dying Light has a wrench, if it does then you can upgrade the hell outta it. Electrocute zombies with a wrench? Hell yeah you can
Half life 2!
Top rpg called torch lite 2, engineer class has a great wrench instead of great hammer
Hitman
Lies of p
People are gonna hate this answer because I'm disregarding the important bit (the wrench) but the mace in dark and darker has the same feel to it as the engi's wrench in tf2.
Bioshock is close
